I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Hehe wanna see what this does. Who knows? Might speed up the Infrastrucuture level of the place ahead of schedule...no it will definetly do that but might have some other nifty effects too. Public sound broadcasting systems and round the clock rune illumination too maybe.
 
You walk back near the entrance of the workshop and pull an orb from out of one of the shelves, its surface scribed with Master Yorri's Rune of Sound, the Rune of Amplification and lastly the Rune of Pitch.

Not enough to cause lasting damage, but enough to be an annoyance, enough to throw a dwarf off, but if your apprentices wanted to be runesmiths, they'd have to work just as well as if they were in complete silence.
You know for all those runes are used for a motivational/hazing/training tool; they could be incredibly useful (or deadly) if used in different ways. A battlefield communication tool so that Thanes can easily give orders to the entire army no matter how loud the battle becomes. Or with a bit of directionality added (so as not to hit the dwarfs) a weapon that can blast the enemy, leaving them reeling and all their eardrums blown apart.
 
@soulcake: You might have already seen this, but reading through the thread I saw you didn't mention the quest Glory and Grudges by @TikiTau as an inspiration for the quest.

It was a great quest and should really help with inspiration on some of the hold building lore/aspects of the quest.

I'm super excited to be here for the start of a runelord quest!

That was also one of them. I remembered it a few days ago after I started writing this, but didn't add it for some reason, though there's definitely inspiration from that quest in here.
 
Normally perhaps not, but we're too far north to skimp on defenses. When the Daemons come in force, we will be closest.

Karaz Ankor might be very powerful right now but we are a disconnected outpost so extra defences and the acquirement of more resources is important for us.

edit @soulcake wait a second, did my vote for the plan "defense and request" not count because I changed the s in defense to a c as in defence (the British spelling).

No. If you expand the tally yours is at the bottom with one vote.
 
Take out the smithing tools! Take out the rune carvers! We are fortifying our workshop and then we are going to rune up our Home!
