On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Hmm, I doubt we'll be able to use the Yorri Prods on Movement of Things anymore with how far we've progressed on it. Maybe but I doubt it. And besides that the only thing it'll really apply to going by the last time we had prods besides material research, which I have no interest in using Prods on, is the Minds of Things. I doubt he can really help us with the Elven stuff either.

I'm honestly tempted to just dump basically all of the Prods on Mind of Things and super charge the hell out of it. Get that Rune of Kingship. Snorri already has the idea for it after learning about the Elves Everqueen.
I do see the reasoning behind that, but I would like to point out that we have learned every variant of the Master Rune of Waking except the banner variant. If that doesn't directly upgrade our Mind for Constructs ability, it will probably knock an item off the checklist. It's also guaranteed to have effects on our other MWaking avenues of research.

And, well, I personally think it would be amusing to see Snorri and Yorri make it into a banner rune.

Making new master runes takes forever so this wouldn't be a bad use for the prods ya.

Unfortunately if we don't...

Wait how many actions are free next turn? We have one taken up by teaching the Beardlings who want to learn how to make gromril chainmail. I can't remember anything else? We've finished the Gazul commission. We're going to want to finish Odd Places.

That's three right?

@soulcake would you mind commenting if the normal Rune of Animation/Waking reduces the actions it takes to Understand MWaking?

Is it wrong i honestly want to use all the Yorri prods on the last Odd Place? Really knock out the park the final part of the journey, go out wandering with our master for the first time in Centuries?

An opportunity of a lifetime, and one we may never get again, given how the Fimir are moving. But still.

I hope to witness the thing that Yorri put at the end of his journal, something genuinely spectacular i do hope.

Yorri prods don't work on Odd Places.

I doubt it. Mind For Constructs is specific to Gronti, not the Master Rune of Waking so making a banner rune versions really shouldn't effect that.

Also let's look at the Movement of Things actions description;
"[ ] The Movement of Things Pt. 4: [Cost: (10 -3) =7 actions] Journeyman of the Odd and Mind for Constructs will proc. With all of the extant examples of the Rune you now have thanks to your trade with Valma, you now have a deeper understanding of just what parts of it draws upon the Deep Magic. Improving the strength, efficiency and utility of the Rune of Waking can't be feasibly done through simple, relatively speaking, changes now. No, you can already tell that you'll have to manipulate the connection to the Deep Magic somehow."

At this point the only way to improve MWaking is by directly investigating the connection to Deep Magic. All making a Banner version would do is developing a weird version of something that Snorri already understands intimately simply for the sake of it. It might get us a couple of free research points in it but not much else which we could simply do by doing it directly using less actions.

@soulcake

boss, a question. Given its the last one, can we use Yorri prods to poke at the final Odd Place? Give a bonus to the roll, and go on an adventure with our Master out on the iceflow?

I would honestly be surprised if it didn't work, it isn't guaranteed, but the major part of making Gronti is the Rune itself. Understanding the Rune should naturally fall under its provision.

I do see your point about Deep Magic, but we've picked apart MWaking just about as far as we can before taking the final step. Understanding Master Runes involves learning what each and every stroke does to the fullest extent, something which completing can only assist our research into Gronti.

I will admit that the Movement of Things would take less prods to finish.

Oh yeah an update! But it looks like a new threat is rising so we'll be off to war soon!

But before that maybe we can finish off Odd places?

Also I'd recommend using Yorri Prods to finish off the low hanging fruit research you know the stuff with one or two actions left.

Snerra hasn't been added to this yet.

We should be able to fit Odd Places in. However I am not exactly sure which low hanging fruit Yorri prods could be used on. We only have four of them.

Mysteriously Cold Stone/ "Wyrren Duraz" White as frost but hard as granite. The stones are so cold that it's harmful for bare skin to touch them for long and so must be handled with insulated gloves. It Freezes water and ale it comes into contact with, but can be used to keep it chilled so long as there's something in between the rock and liquid.
Ngl, the first thing I thought of was refrigerator and thus food storage and preservation.

Next turn we have four actions. One for odd places while Yorri's here, one for firebird's to finish it. For the last two we could do a prod for prod action if that's available to get us 7 prods. We then dump every prod into either mind or movement for 7d2+7 progress which will guarantee at least one tier completion and probably two if it rolls average.

I say we use it for any research action that only has one action point left I don't really mind which though. That or we dump it into one big action in an attempt to finish it.

Well that went better than I expected. Something useful from odd places, all the procs for the Gazul cult commission, and our scouting paid some dividdends. Good haul all told from the game perspective. FRom the story lore? Good stuff too, with cold rocks, more Yorri, the marriage and Karstah stuff.

There's Firebird Feathers and that's it. The Waystone research action needs 2 actions and we have a couple of options that take three actions.

I'll admit that I forgot that Yorri's help was partially dice based, and that we could also prod him for help. Honestly @LaggPlaguedDuke's plan seems to be the best idea so far.

Then I say we finish off Odd Places next turn and also do the Firebird research and have Yorri prod the Waystone research or help us on some other larger project.

Is it weird that I want to combine glacial granite and heartsatones in a gronti just for the pun of 'Stone man of ice and fire'?

Edit: and now that I think of it, here is a superproject for us, for once we clear out the odd places: make a gronti combining materials from all of the odd places (even the pumice) as a gift/pseudomasterpice for Yorri. A postgrad project kinda-sorta?

It feel like we need to put way more effort on the Waystones since i don't like how it links to the actions of Beastmen and Fimir, it sound like they're using the Waystones turn the areas into a major launching pad for permanent portals to Aethyr.

Nah, Mind for Constructs is very specifically aimed at Gronti themselves and other constructs.

"Mind for Constructs: Every 3 research actions used on all constructs add 1 free action's worth of progress. A deep understanding of Gronti and the mechanics of the Dwarfen form."

Please note that it specifies constructs and Gronti with no mention of the Master, or regular, Rune of Waking. No, the way to improve this trait in my opinion is to simply make more Gronti as simple practice and, more specifically, Gronti that aren't in the shape of a Dwarf. Note the "mechanics of the Dwarfen form" part. To improve the trait we simply add more forms beyond a dwarfs to Snorri's understanding.

And we have already understood every stoke of MWaking, that's why Snorri is moving on to the Deep Magic connection as there's nothing else to improve. A Banner version would simply be a rearranging of what he already knows and understands.

If the prods can be used for waystone research we could do prod for prod and dump 7 prods into that to jump start it a few tiers but I doubt that'll be available.
I severely doubt it. Yorri was and is busy finding and protecting them, not researching them. Even if we do get a Prod we will probably only be able to use one so he can fill us in on what little he gathered on them when he had a spare moment.

I disagree with doing firebird's feathers rather than an additional prod for prod we'll get more out of those 3 extra prods than we will completing firebird's feathers.

Edit: Wait a minute this plan doesn't work we need to actually take an action in something to use prods on it so we need to take Mind or Movement in order to spend prods on it and with this current plan we aren't doing that so we can't spend prods, therefore, it makes the most sense to swap out firebird for Mind or Movement.

Teaching, odd places, firebird, prod for prod, mind or movement is 5 actions unless there's another mandatory one I'm forgetting? Also I don't think we can do two prods for prods but if we can sure might as well.
