On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

@soulcake would you mind commenting if the normal Rune of Animation/Waking reduces the actions it takes to Understand MWaking?
From the Turn Post said:
From a Max. 16 actions you can theoretically reduce it
-6 (personally made or compressed from combo)
-3 (Savant Specialty)
-2 (Mastered Specialty)
-1 (Exceptional Specialty)
-1 (Runelord)
-1 (per every variant of the Rune made or known + original combo it was derived from) max. 6
-1 (per 4 similar Master Runes as decided by QM)
To a Min. 4 actions.
Yeah you're good.
@soulcake

boss, a question. Given its the last one, can we use Yorri prods to poke at the final Odd Place? Give a bonus to the roll, and go on an adventure with our Master out on the iceflow?
You need to put in an action yourself.
Snerra hasn't been added to this yet.
Thank ye kindly.

Teaching, odd places, firebird, prod for prod, mind or movement is 5 actions unless there's another mandatory one I'm forgetting? Also I don't think we can do two prods for prods but if we can sure might as well.
It was a misreading of the second sentence of your post I read that as we'd spend the final two actions on prod for prod, and then somehow just dump all the prods into Mind or Movement without taking one of the actions. With regards to multiple prod for prods there's nothing specific banning it in previous Yorri visits so if it is banned it was in a WOG somewhere else.

the Runelords who follow him are muttering to each other and grumbling in a tone that she clearly recognizes as judging both her and her work.

Man, I would dearly like to know what they thought.

Bittersweet now, but you won't sully such a happy occasion by indulging in your grief. It would be an insult to her and those present. So here and now you choose to remember the joy over the sorrow.

You know, it's so strange how endearing Snorri's grief is. Normally I find grieving characters less appealing, because I don't read fiction in search of sorrow. But Snorri is just so deeply, purely heartfelt - centuries later, he can still unwrap the emotions like an heirloom, unchanged despite the years.

Just, the feels man. From dwarf Santa!

" -I'm not like that am I?" you ask lamely.

On the one hand, aarrrgh.

(Roll, Beast Scouting: 93, DC 70, 90)

On the other, woohoo!

Maybe it was nothing, maybe it was something far more nefarious. Ultimately he'd leave the decision on whether to pursue it or not up to his Uncle.

Rudil. Dude. You've been doing this for 130 years. You still have to ask?

Based on your very preliminary and amateur estimates, the strata of rock containing this queer stone has been uplifted at an angle, where erosion and the surrounding geography forced the local meltwater to overtop a natural hole in the rock to form the lake.

On another note, @soulcake, my congratulations on continuing to surprise me with really creative odd places to discover.

I finally got into the miniatures and have begun painting so Its almost totally my fault

No apologies, man. We're just glad you're having fun.

Now, regarding the beastmen: it seems increasingly clear that the beastmen are getting pushed out of their home turf by the Fimir. Given that this means that they think that attacking dwarven fortifications is the easy road, I'm somewhat terrified.

Ensconced within the protective square of Dhar empowered warriors a quintet of robed figures huddle and bicker among themselves. The four smallest ones bear a staff of blackened metal, a differently coloured light and voice screaming from atop each one. They wear robes that glow with the same kind of dark power as on their guard's armour, though they also wear intricate [missing noun].

Couple of typos.

Great update as usual. I'm curious to see whats happening with the Elves and the Firmir. Seems like Snori needs to get out there and investigate those Waystones Himself. Seems like the Firmir are sending Beastman through portals using corrupted Waystones as a scouting tactic. Or perhaps to corrupt other Waystones with Dhar so they can make bigger portals later. Just a guess though.

@soulcake

I understand we would need to put in our own action, ijust wanted to know if we could put Yorri prods towards the final Odd Place result, so we can have a fun adventure while also visiting the last location our master gave us for our original journey up north!

Wait. Wait wait wait. Are the Fimir using corrupted waystones to channel enough power to brute force the Mists around Albion for short intervals and slipping invasion forces in while they lure Beastmen into attacking the Dwarfs to distract the Dwarfs from what they are doing?

Also using Beastmen as Sacrifice for the rituals.

Doesn't seem likely they are based on Albion just yet. This is long before they were able to gain ground there.

If my thought is right they are *trying* to gain ground there by using corrupted wardstones in the north to bruteforce invasion forces through the Mists guarding Albion and landing there to attack the Albish.

The fimir section of the update mention Mists and the Fimir are clearly coming to shore on boats when the Mists are parted after some kind of dark ritual occurs.

If I'm right then the first War for Albion is already well underway with the Fimir already launching invasions against the Albish.

I see no reason why the fimir would not be aware of Dwarfs.

As clearly a third faction (the fimir) are using the Beastmen to keep the Dwarfs in the north busy by launching attacks that force the Dwarfs to respond constantly and with no rime or reason and spread out all over the North.

All those attacks are a distraction.

Aren't the beastmen appearing all over the Karaz Ankor not just in the North? If it's all coming from the Fimir that's pretty damn scary considering how much power they have to be expending to get this done.

Not all of it has to be the Fimir. IIRC only the north has portals disgorging Beastmen all over the place. There's no mention of it in sections like with Karstah that I can recall.

The Beastmen attacks are something that is happening with or without the Fimir. After all, the Beastmen are Beastmen. They will attack anything anytime they have enough forces to do so. What the Fimir are likely doing is redirect the Beastmen warherds (or parts of them) in the north at the Dwarfs in place where they want to cause maximum confusion and distraction of the Dwarfs while they carry out their invasion of Albion. All the Fimir are doing are taking advantage of what would have happened anyways.

Though keep in mind: The Fimir are powerful. They are no jokes. There's a reason why the Fimir were the favored servants of Chaos before humanity rose on Malus.

Edit: Though keep in mind, with multiple corrupted waystones they'd have plenty of power to spare.

You know, the more I think about it the more certain that I am.

I think the beastmen we are seeing in the north are being indirectly used as a catspaws by the Fimir. Both to distract the dwarfs and to find more waystones/wardstones.

The Fimir have to know many of the things in the north have been warded by dwarfs and if they march into one they could well take a lot of casualties. So they use beastmen as disposable bloodhounds for finding the stones. Equip some of them with enchanted/curse amulets or equipment and monitor them from afar. If they run into a waystone and its unguarded (and the beastmen proceed to begin turning it into a herdstone) they can portal in and stomp on the beastmen to claim it for themselves (and subsequently use said beastmen for sacrifices for their own rituals). If the beastmen die by triggering the traps then the Fimir know which one to avoid or which one to poke again to see if the traps are all gone.

Various attacks against Dwarfs have been focused on the east. There is little known activity in the west. And where does the western coast of the penninsula face? Albion. The Fimir want to keep the dwarfs busy in the east. The constant harassing attacks and suicidal attacks against Dwarf holds and outlying holdings seem to bear out that they want to Dwarfs to be firmly busy away from the western portion of the Norsca penninsula.

The ultimate objective of the Fimir in the north have to be to take over Albion.

They would have multiple compelling reasons to do so:

1. Albion, due to the Albish taking the bullet for the world and acting as a buffer for the Great Vortex to ensure it does not get overloaded by the winds of magic, has turned from a beautiful idyllic island paradise into a island full of swamps and other such terrain- perfect habitats for the Fimir.

2. Albion is home to the current greatest human society/civilization to exist- the Albish civilization whom learned at the feet of the Old Ones. The Fimir have a massive grudge against humanity due to the fickle gods of Chaos turning their attentions to the new toys that humanity represents. And here's a chance for the Fimir to kick said human civilization while its down.

3. If the Fimir can seize control over the island and its Mists, they will have an impregnable fortress to operate out of with impunity.

but that may not be for a while given you're planning to release more Runes.
Wait, we are?

Well, Fimir shenanigans intensify and Snorri found the material to build proper dwarven refrigerators. Using that stone as a conduction material for a Rune of Cold might actually cause some nice effects.

And Ice Version of Zharrgal? It would be thematic for the northern holds. Otherwise some ice traps to go along with the lava ones.

I also just want to get the Odd Places over and done with. Maybe we're lucky and find a real banger at the end. It would certainly be appropriate to leave the best for last.

What is with this luck? So far we've made every single Peerless Production roll.

So plans for next turn since Yorri is here, I have to say I am not a fan of spending prods on more different research than we were already planning to do. My ideal turn next turn would be something like 1 action into Odd Places, 1 into Prod for Prod then split the prods and our remaining two actions between Secrets of Light and Wardstones, if either of those can't have Yorri prods spent on them replace it with Mind of Things in case that is also needed for the eye. If two of those three can't have prods spent I'd like to focus on clearing out any partially complete stuff that we can spend prods on.

Sadly, the shock and awe seems to wearing off, the only reaction we got on hilarious overflow was "should have known you'd do this".

Edit:

I've been thinking, can we take a "vacation" action or similar? You know, give Snorri some time to have completely different thoughts, get out of the grind and do something that is not pure necessaty?

Sure, he's a dwarf so it'll still be work, but it'll be different work.
