On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

This may seem like a strange question but why exactly do people think its a good idea to add gromril chain mail to that religious commission or anything else at this time? You'd be handing them something that can only be repaired by santa dwarf or an ancestor god. That seems like something that shouldn't be done until other rune masters could service those things.

It also seems like kind of a company store policy of deploying something too awesome to use... and the other choice is go bother an ancestor god for maintenance. This just seems to fly against the idea of maximum usefulness of actions thing MC has going.
That is why we want to research The Rune Metal Pt. 2b. Those actions should result in other Runesmiths being able to forge gromril chain. Gromril chain isn't ever going to really break, and even if it does something is already very wrong and fixing it is the least of their concerns.

I want to make sure that Moira's confidence in us is rewarded. The people we are making the armor for are probably around Yorri's age. It is possible that we won't be able to do it, but there is no reason to not try at least.

The Hearthguard helping them is rewarding her confidence. This 12 action commission is just taking too many actions and too much time for us when we have so much more useful, cool stuff to do.

These particular twelve actions' worth of commission freaking kicks ass and might well involve Snorri making art of a character and on a scale no mortal smith has ever done before. The alchemy stuff will survive waiting a bit longer while he explores new frontiers of metalworking, imo

Anything Snorri makes freaking kicks ass. This is a vanity piece with minor comparative gains.

I don't think you understand. Moira put Snorri's name in front of Cult of Valaya as an option to commission armor for their eldest of elders. They chose Snorri. They could have easily have commissioned another, much older and therefore better, Runelord to do this.

Also I want to flex on the youth, and I am pretty excited to see if we actually get to meet any of the Living Ancestors we're making armor for.

It's 12 actions for a measly 70 Favor and +1 Standing. I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter that we got on the list of people offered a chance, it isn't that important.

It's eight because we have Productivity Like No Other. I don't care about the mechanical benefit. I want it because it is fucking awesome. I also think the plot hooks will be pretty damn cool. You are seriously underestimating connections to more people who are probably as old as Yorri.

Our Clan's favored Ancestor is Valaya.

That is a fair opinion.

I think you underestimate what we stand to gain from certain big research projects like alchemy, and don't understand that consistently putting off expanding our knowledge in favor of commissions encourages repetition. Moreover, unlocking the secrets of changing the material form of base elements is fucking cool and opens up untold possibilities. And getting an in with the Elgi will undoubtedly prove endlessly fruitful and entertaining.

I'm aware of the benefits of alchemy and how much of a game changer it will be, and I don't like putting off research turns for even longer. But after we get the Valayans done (and maybe Gazul if the voters decide to do that), we'll have five actions again, and we'll be able to research more and even split up focus on research and still proc bonuses.

This is also giving the thread a reason to go for gromril chain, which I've wanted for a while.

We have the Canal Commission to get an in with the Elgi so dont worry about it.

That is perhaps the tiniest, most miniscule of the possibilities open towards an in with the Elgi with far less rewards or progress. It is in no way a decent substitute, and frankly we're not doing it any sooner than Alchemy. They cost the same amount of actions.

I really really hope we won't go for Gazul.
Like I'd rather we didn't go for Valaya either, but I won't be too upset if it win, as you noted we have personal reasons to do it.
But add Gazul to that and it's 4 turns worth of actions doing nothing but making armor, and truthfully I'm bored just thinking about it.
I'm also pretty annoyed how the requirements of those commissions mean everything we do within 8 turns is strictly planned already. Part of why I'm voting to derail it early.

There should be an i between the y and n

We already tend to make plans for the future. It's not like it's undwarfy to do that. Hell, I'd say it's undwarf-like to not make plans for the coming century. I would not mind if the Gazul commission lost, but I would be pretty annoyed if we didn't take at least one of them.

Out of anything Snorri's achieved that doesn't involve combat, gromril chain has triggered the quickest ancestor response by far. Cooking up adamant got him an offhand sinus clearing by Grimnir some time later once he happened to pass by anyway, but the chain shirt was a big enough deal to ping Smednir's super ancestor senses and make him go Damn bro. Guess this is cool enough to warrant a personal autograph. Wow So Good 🤩. But Snorri was like, nah dude. I lucked into making the first one, which is fail, so now I'm gonna figure it out for real and do it honest. Are you hype to see Snorri doing it honest and stepping into what was once the exclusive domain of the living gods, and proving it by providing the nation's holiest women with armaments never before made by mortal hands?? That's a rhetorical question btw, I know you're not, but that's ok because I'll just be hype enough for both of us. It's gonna pwn majorly.

*Stumbles into the thread* Can I stay here until things are sane again? The other quest is tying itself in a knot right now...

Sure thing dude. Why don't you tell us a bit about your favourite troll recipes. Are you a smoked meat kinda guy or a bbq guy? Or maybe you prefer roasting?
More of a pot roast/stew kind of guy. The right spices and bones for broth... could be excellent. Hmmm, see if those tubers can't be turned into decent noodles, create a new warming and filling dish with it.
