So this past post of mine just got a like by someone reading through the thread so my attention was drawn to it. I'd like to nominate myself for the worst judge of character award 2018.

Tho eh you'll have to fight me for that award?

I mean, I argued we can't judge Rionna for using her powers to shade people who attack her... before she started ranting about traveling across the world and shading all the "bad" Grief controllers.

Never mind. Don't really wanna talk about it.

It wasn't the reason I went away for four months, but it certainly contributed.

So yeah, you can have the award if you want. :V

To be fair, a lot of things about Rionna WERE promising. That's why the argument around her was such a trash fire.
Honestly, I think that's the principle way she was mishandled: From the intelligence we gathered on her from our two (otherwise) completely reliable (at the time) sources, there was absolutely nothing that gave us any indication that she was capital-emphasis Neutral Evil. And Hell, I'm still not even sure why she came here in the first place.

I don't mind the Power Gem existing. I don't mind Sayaka studying it to see how it can non-disgustingly be used if she wants to. I'm never gonna suggest it, though.

I think it might be worth reminding Sayaka of the existence of it sometime after she's been witchbombed. Not right after she learns it and is distraught or trying to pressure her into it - more have your prior judgements changed given this new information?

And how she figured out she needs to come here.
If she specifically goes after Griefbenders that means that someone, ah, sold the info about us to her.
And it wasn't Nadia, cuz she didn't know Rionna was coming until we told her.

On the other hand, maybe Rionna has villainous Grief senses that tingle each time a Griefbender comes into this world.

I don't exactly like the fact that you're trying to re-open this can of worms again, so I'll stick with the most objective opinion I can find: Brinapilot herself.
"Sabrina?" Nadia says. "What is happening?"

"I met with Rionna," you say. "Or rather, she met us."

"Ah, good," Nadia responds. "I was not sure, I had not heard she was travelling besides what you said."

"Except, well..." you say, trying not to grimace. "She... I don't know. It seems like she might have come to kill me for being a Grief Controller."
Filling in Nadia wasn't even in the vote, and was instead thrown in entirely by Firn in response to this request:
@Firnagzen, I'm going to poke you on this. I think everyone ever can agree that we should telepathy and fill in Nadia, Niko, and Kazumi at some point, preferably now. Can we get a micro-update on that, set during the travel after departing from Oriko's place, and then run this?
That's not Word of Firnagzen, but Brinapilot making declarations like that is pretty damning.
And how she figured out she needs to come here.
However it is she finds all the other grief controllers. Probably some combination of word-of-mouth, spirits floating around listening for things, and an information-network. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that she pays off people like Nadia across the planet, and we know for a fact that we're already known throughout Japan.

In other news, I'm not sure how I found this quote, but apparently I did, because I found this in my to-quote list when I went to quote that last one:
"You know that you can come to me if you ever feel like you need to talk about anything, right?" you say, and let your smile widen into a grin. "Or if you want a hug. But I'm sure you'd prefer hugs from Madoka, eh?"

"... thank you," Homura murmurs.
Not denying it :V

My money is on Kyubey.

Ah, the obvious option.

[Q] Blame everything on Kyuubey.

You're probably right, at that.
That would mean Kyuubey told her of us... somewhere between us contracting and Oriko getting Homu'd. Three days at most? Wow, Kyuubey must really dislike us.

Edit: uh, no the window is a little bigger than that. A week and three days.

Aaaaand moving to other topics
Dunno if it was brought up
But Nadia's powers seem to be about being unstoppable
And she travels a lot, more or less, by choice

How big are chances her Wish was something like "I Wish I would always be free and no one could stop me!", huh?

For example, she wanted to run away from an arranged marriage
Or she really wanted to travel a lot and see the world, but her parents wouldn't let her
Or both

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if her wish was to "travel the world" via some wording or other.

Unstoppable movement powers fit with a wish to travel after all and it wouldn't surprise me if her way of life being in tune with her wish is part of how she's kept herself so well together after all these years and bombs.

On another note, I can't help but wonder if we should put together an IRC specifically for Mitakihara. It feels like something that could be useful for keeping in contact once groups get particularly numerous.

Or given the use of multiple channels and viewing permissions to keeping bombs in check, and how we've joked about giving our friends copies of Dark Souls months before it comes out, perhaps we could backport Discord by several years. :V

Harrumph.

Another idea I've had from my sleepy brain intersects with just how much time Sabrina has to devote to checking in on people, which is going to just get worse as more refugee groups come in, etc. Setting up our own internal IRC channel for the purposes of checking in with people, and a route for them to bring up minor issues or concerns might be a good idea. Our newest refugees might be a good fit for helping to moderate (if I recall, they're properly bombed and have nothing to do with all their time), but Madoka might also be able to contribute as just a name in the channel, which helps shield her from personal risk, while at the same time providing a way for her to talk to and arrange help for people who really need it in a way that I think best helps her feel like she's contributing.

:p

If we're thinking of doing IRC stuff, we might want to talk to that grief controller from earlier today before anyone else - should probably come back around to reassure them a bit more.

From what I recall, Niko's is nearly complete, but we requested she hold off on turning it on without us there.
technically jyubey doesn't really have a name, like kyubey its "name" is just a bastardized version of its job, dependent incubator. so we could just name him Salem

we could totally make a killing by bringing technology from almost a decade in the future back to the past

Plot Twist: All our technology is seen as hopelessly antiquated by the standards of Mitakihara.

"Hey guys, look at this! I brought a nice phone! It has two screens that you can flip around, so it can be a phone or a tablet!"
"Aw, Sabrina! That's so retro!"
"What."
"They stopped making these ages ago! How did you get your hands on one?"
"Umm... magic?"

now that I think of it, it would make sense that their tech and society is further along than ours because of the incubators, wishes that change things on a larger scale that cause progress to jump forward can't be that uncommon, after all kyubey said that wishes are the only reason humanity is in its current state

Don't know if I should be continuing this line of discussion, but Rionna flat-out said she learned of us from someone in Tokyo.
"Leaving that entirely unsettling statement aside for now until I process it," you say. "How did you hear about me?"

Rionna shrugs, squinting at the inside of her flask. "Been in Tokyo before, know a couple o' girls there."

"Huh," you say. You lean forward a little and prop your chin on a fist, your elbow resting on your knee. "After another Grief-cleanser?"

"Fake," Rionna says with a shrug. "Made an example out of her."
Tokyo was one of her "Day Trips." Someone there has experience enough with "Fake" Grief Controllers to call her in.

On a maybe-not-tangental note, I'm really wondering how the Meiji group lost their friend right now.

[Edit]
"Aw, Sarbina! That's so retro!"

... Sarbina?

Hey, question:

Okay so we can channel magic through stuff like Mami's ribbons to give people the impression of our presence right?

Well, when we cleansed Sayaka through her clone, she reported something similar to what Mami felt. That it felt like "you."

So, given that our only example of long-distance cleansing was a lot like magic channeling, I want to ask:

Does it go the other way? Could we cleanse Mami at a distance while we channel through her ribbons? (Do we still have that one she gave us? I don't recall us remarking on it staying or disappearing or how long it lasted.)

And if that holds up, could we cleanse anyone at a distance if we had a manifestation of their magic to channel into?

Like, say, the weapons that every magical girl has?

Well a noteworthy idea is worth repeating then. :V

But yeah, if it comes to needing something specialized for bomb-management, a program like that seems like something we might commission Yuuki for.

Before Discord, the CEO of the company ran another company that had produced their own chat client.

It was eventually turned sour due to legal shenanigans (Breach of privacy? IIRC?) but before then the company got bought by a Japanese group.

In April 2011
