Good to know rational discussion is discouraged here for making a mere suggestion for facing a huge implied threat. From now on I will argue in every vote that Sabrina never use grief again because it is immoral and can be used to harm people horribly. And, you know, smurf you too.
I'm not 'talking shit'. I tried having a reasonable discussion but you insist on passive aggressively insulting me at every turn. But fine, here, have your win so you can gloat about how you beat the ebul idiot who talks shit. I'm done. Go celebrate and mock me some more and bring out the champagne because you won. Happy now, veryats? And yes, I did misspell it on purpose this time because I'm petty as fuck, so you can mock and verbally bash me for that too, aren't I nice giving you more mud to sling at me?

Uh huh.

It matters for what I said too, not just for what suits your narrative, QM or not. You mishandled Rionna, you say, fine, mayhaps you did. None of that matters, as Rionna doesn't tie into this discussion. We're discussing the power of soul and what applications it could have, unrelated to what Rionna did with it. Blocking off a power by you and Verbyast forcing it to be about Rionna is dishonest and in bad faith. If you don't want to talk about Rionna, fine, I don't want to talk about her either. I want to talk about how the power of soul could help us facing Iowa and that has nothing to do with Rionna.

If you absolutely insist on erasing everything even vaguely, remotely related to that clusterfuck, then have Sayaka get rid of that power gem. Seriously. That'd be the definitive end of that.

Otherwise, this is just meaningless aggressive posturing on your part for no good reason.
While I personally would love to find a use for the power if we could without it causing strife in thread, I'm going to guess that the current conflict proooooobably implies that it has not been anywhere near enough time for all the negative feelings in the thread to have calmed down enough for that to happen. I also think it might be a good idea to try and avoid arguing with the QM. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with them on a given moral issue, Firn is giving us free entertainment (and particularly good entertainment for that matter). It would be really great if we could avoid taking shots at the person who is doing all this, especially when they already apologized for their handling of the Rionna matter and clearly want to avoid anything having to do with it.

I think the current discussion shows that the thread is still not able to talk about this issue without argument, so it might be best if we focus on other topics.

... like antimagic stuff! :lol
I considered cyanoacrilates, but they're too indiscriminate. The useful property of tape is that you can carry it around, already primed in some form factor where it doesn't stick to itself or its container, so that you can pull it off an immediately stick it to something you want taped. We could carry around something like a... piece of tape soaked in cyanoacrylate glue inside a fragile container? That family of adhesives polymerize when exposed to water, so if we made a sufficiently well-sealed container it wouldn't harden until the container was broken, at which point we slap it on our target and it's stuck. Might even mix in an ampoule of water to make it go faster. But that'd be super messy, it'd get all over our hands and be impossible to unstick, which isn't great. We could just back off to carrying a tube of super glue along with something more classically manacle-like, the idea being that we super-glue it to the gem instead of trusting it to stay on, but I'm not sure whether that'd be significantly better than a simple manacle. Then again, being able to throw it at someone who's not totally physically constrained would be nifty; maybe an option to add to the bolas we're making for Yuki?
Hmmm. What about using grief as the container, and keeping it in 4 space until we need to use it? We might not have to touch the tape at all with our hands if we can just use grief to hold it and move it around. Keeping it in 4 space has the added advantage of keeping it in a vacuum, so there should be no possibility of accidentally exposing it to water too soon.
Does it actually need to be this durable/sticky? I was assuming that normal duct tape should be fine as long as the target's allies don't manage to get their hands on the gem again.
For throwing at someone who's not fully restrained, the darts should be one good option. Coating the tips of them and parts of Yuki's bolas would probably be excellent for keeping targets from just ripping them off. Especially since the darts will have the glue harden from contact with water in the target's blood.

Rionna is basically Glaistig Uaine from Worm, only she has a greater number of useful secondary powers that don't require killing people. Admittedly we don't know if she has the ability to discern weaknesses, strengths and uses of powers (which is the main thing we could want it for), but she very well could.

But I guess there's really no point in discussing it further.

We don't have a Rionna power gem, we're never likely to be able to GET a Rionna power gem. QED Sayaka cannot use Rionna's powers.

It's rather like offering that we buy Flak 88's to ensure we can fight a future enemy's tanks. Nothing is wrong with how we intend to use the guns, nothing wrong with the guns themselves. But we don't have any Flak 88 factories.

So the larger issue becomes WHO we have to get the plans for the guns from rather then the guns themselves. Rionna is a persona non gratias and thus we cannot work with her, or interact with her until the GM allows it given the fallout from her arc.

The reactions above are basically due to how this thread has 2... maybe three modes.

1) Fine, posting Mami pics, random vote tangents on philosophy
2) Making 9 paragraph votes and debating line 4, paragraph 2 of section A
3) EVERYTHING IS ON FIRE

Rionna took us into 3, and then kept going. The thread was locked for awhile after that. Basically Rionna almost defeated the quest by means of ending the quest as a quest rather than IC. It was not fun for the GM, not fun for most of the readers (I assume) and not fun for the mod staff that had to come put out the fires.

I welcome new readers and voters especially when they are willing to throw out ideas and votes and breath new blood into the quest's voter pool. On this particular subject I err on the side of caution and simply throw out any thoughts of using any of it for future plans.

MOVING ON TO THE VOTE AT HAND

I'm thinking just enchantment practice while discussing Oriko developments? The current discussion in thread has drifted from the immediate matters rather greatly

Point of order:

"Let's try this!" the clone declares, and takes another power gem from Sayaka. She absorbs it, and reaches a single finger for the Soul Gem.

You hold your breath. You trust Sayaka. Even if she learns the truth about Soul Gems -about Witches- you trust her not to blurt it out in front of Mami.

"Got it," the clone mutters. "Right. Shades..." She pauses, blinking. "Nothing. Huh."

"What do you mean, nothing?" Sayaka asks, scowling.

"I mean nothing!" the clone snaps back. "Like I'm trying not to look at things too much but I can get that much. There's nothing out there!"

She flicks her hand, a clear, blue gem forming in her hands. "Bleh," she says, and frowns, looking up at you. "Yeah, Sabrina. There's nothing."

"... dammit," you mutter. "I don't... No, I'm sure you checked as much as you could. And you didn't see anything?"

The clone shrugs, and flips you the gem. "Nah," she says. "But I did get a good look at... It's like there's supposed to be a network, you know? Strings stretching out and all that? Except I couldn't feel anything. Just an empty spool."

You catch the gem and slip it into your pocket before sighing, and slumping against Mami. She leans back against your chest, tucking her head under your chin.

"Yeah," you agree.

"Did your friend... Sayaka? Did she copy Rionna's magic?" Niko asks.

"She did as a backup, but she also kind of wants nothing to do with it," you say. "So, yeah."

Sabrina is currently hanging on to Sayaka's copy of Rionna's powers, but that copy does exist.

Oh good. I guess I missed that. Fuck everything about that.

edit: Not that it matters; as I said, the kind of person that wants to use it would just say that we could make another. Or say that they're just rationally exploring options for dealing with major threats without any emotional or moral implications.

I don't mind the Power Gem existing. I don't mind Sayaka studying it to see how it can non-disgustingly be used if she wants to. I'm never gonna suggest it, though.

I think we should have Sayaka try to learn to make antimagic enchantments. If she succeeds in this update (or already knows how), make some barbed darts that she can enchant.

im not sure if we ever could use her power gem either way, given that its wish magic, and the specific reason she made her wish was to bring someone back from the dead so she could torture them forever
i don't know if wish rejection could ever happen with a copied power but if it ever could then this would be the occasion

Could she apply anti-magic to her ballistic swords?

...she has those here, right?

.... wait she still has the sword when she has the copied powers right?

and powers can enchant things right?

..... someone grab Sayaka and manically propose this. whiletalkingreallyreallyfastbecauseballasticantimagicswordsaresocool

Now picturing Homura and Sabrina under Mt. Fuji

Homura: Sabrina! Throw it into the fires! Cast it away!
Sabrina: *turns around cupping the power gem* ... no
Homura: I was there... I was there when Sabrina had brain damage.

[Q] Use Grief to enchant a sturdy golden ring that can only be destroyed if cast in the depths of Fujiyama.

Hey, I was there first! :p

...So in this reinterpretation, who is Gollum? Chibi Kazumi? Chibi Brina? Chibi Homura?

Sayaka? She can make clones to talk to herself too, as a bonus.

And Rionna is Sauron.

... now I have an urge to write an omake about Sabrina bidding Megucas to stand. Too bad I've recently used that joke.

I don't see Sayaka having any troubles so far with any of her copied powers influencing her mindset. Heck, if what you're saying is true, then in the hands of Sayaka, who is a good person, there shouldn't be any problem. 'Soul' is, like grief, such a vague concept that there are many possible ways it might be used besides how you know who did. She may have shaped it, but there's no reason to believe that's all it can do or that we would be forced to use it in that way. Take Sabrina's grief and the ludicrous things we do with it. If you just heard 'grief control', would you immediately picture using that to gold smith, make jet planes or even a friggin' mecha godzilla? I certainly don't. Soul could have just as much potential. The thing is, we don't know. We only know what you know who used it for, but not if that's the extent of its ability set, and we'll never know if it keeps getting dismissed out of hand just because people get jumpy when it gets mentioned. There's no need for any of that, or to be angry for people being curious.
You know, that's not a bad idea. I might do that, but I'll have to think about it a bit. I was keeping the opportunity open, but I'm honestly not sure anything good will come of it.

I believe that's called telling the truth, verybast.
On the other hand, this?

No. Take a vacation.

Unrelated, I'll probably be updating tomorrow, my apologies.

"Arise, Arise, Meguca of Mitakihara!"

"WHAT-"

"Hopeful deeds awake: Hugs and headpats!"

"Oh. Dammit, Sabrina, it's too early for this."

"Gems shall shine, hair be flipped-"

"While I recognize the quote and am duly impressed, I must agree with Sayaka."

"A magical day, a golden day, ere the sun rises!"

"Awwww, come on. I think it's adorable!"

"Rise now, rise now! Rise for homework, and breakfast's ending!"

"I'm going back to bed."

Walpurgisnacht: Thou fool! No Meguca can kill me.
Sabrina: But no Meguca am I. You look upon a teenage Witch!

If we're having Sabrina quote things - this post from long ago is relevent for current situation:

A little late but on the Sabrina and music.

[MUSIC PAUSES]
[SABRINA STANDS IN AN INTERSECTION IN MITAKHARA]

Our principle characters live in this fashionable district of Mitakhara, in these three houses.

First the house of Homura. A wary and driven girl searching for a way to save her beloved from the hands of fate itself with the ability to travel time.

Second, the house of Oriko. The daughter of a once rich and powerful politician now fallen from grace, that's for those of you that have absolutely no interest in time travel.

And finally the house of Mami. Who lives here with roommate the amnesiacatic foreigner Sabrina. Sabrina is probably my favorite character in the piece. A role of enormous variety and nuance, and played by an actor of such versatility, such magnificence, such – let me put it this way, *I* play the part

And now... THE ENTIRE COMPANY!

[EVERY MEGUCA]
