What time is it? I think we can probably poke them right now, since I don't remember it being particularly late.
School just got out.

-[x] Griefhax with emotion-enchanted grief.
What's the purpose of this?
Expand to general protective enchantments; I think that we'll end up focusing on mental defenses, but Sayaka having Kirika's antimagic is a good point.

My memory, Search-Fu, and eyes are failing me right now. Has Sayaka gotten an enchantment to stick yet?

If she hasn't, it may be better to look for something closer to the core of her powerset, rather than copying someone else's. (An enchantment to copy things possibly, or replicating an enchantment off an existing example.)

We also need to eventually teach Sayaka how to get the full use of her swords... boy, when Sayaka works out Homura is a time traveler, teaching her how to use her swords will come remarkably easier.

Reposting the list I made before:
• Fire the blades of her cutlasses themselves by pulling the trigger, though she needs to replace the swords after doing so. Oh, and the detached blades can explode. (actually, looking at the chart again, seems the D-Guard can open up, revealing a cartridge she can use to replace the spent blade).
• Turn her swords into a chain blade reminiscent of Kyoko's spear. (Oh and if I am seeing the chart right... the tip of the chain sword can explode as well if she wants it too... does she have a thing for blowing stuff up? Must be the Fortissimo Hairclip lol.)
• Elongate the size of her blades (Different Story and Homura's Revenge demonstrate this if I remember right).

And now... this:

Sabrina: Say, Sayaka, did you know your swords can turn into a chain?
Sayaka: They can!? Pulls the trigger and watches them detach to form a chain sword.
Homura:
First time you pulled that off without panicking...
Sayaka: HEY!
Homura: I meant that as a compliment... Sayaka.
Sayaka: Aw.. gee... I... thanks?
Homura: Just be sure not to press the trigger a-
Sayaka: I wonder what happens if I pull again?
Sabrina: SAYAKA STO-

*click*
........
Massive Chain of Explosions within Warehouse-Kun erupt. Sayaka coughs smoke.

Sayaka: Why... Why do all my attacks end in a bang?! Isn't that Homura's thing?! Owww......
Homura: ........

Homura dusts off the ash from her uniform while Sabrina sits up, laughing heartily while waiting for the Tinnitus to subside from being knocked back by the blasts. Jumping up and brushing the dirt off, she beams a grin at Sayaka.

Sabrina: Wellllp... we covered shooting and reloading the blades... your chain exploding swords... You've nailed The Five Lillians easily enough... time to learn how to make your swords big... REALLY big!
Sayaka: I can make my swords grow?!
Homura: ...... yes... I was on the receiving end of them too many times before...
Sayaka: You've said that about all my other attacks...?
Homura: .... yes.

Sayaka Looks morbid for a second, realizing the unspoken implication. Then laughs softly as she leans on her sword, flicking at a puddle with the tip of her blade.

Sayaka: Ya know... I said this before, and I'll say it again, sure... I can't speak for the other me's... but I'm proud to be your friend Homura. All those other me's were wrong about you, and this time... this sword of justice is aimed where it should've always been. By your side and with you.

Homura grows quiet, but a small nostalgic smile could barely be seen as she remembers some of the earlier Sayaka Mikis... the one that rushed in to help her and save Madoka from an Oriko lost to her despair, the one who gleefully stole Hitomi's notes so she could study and catch up on school work, the one resurrected by Madoka and fought alongside her against Walpurgisnacht... declaring much like now how they shared the same goal. Though her fringe hid her eyes, the small smile remained... now looking grateful.

Homura: Yes... as it should've been.

Sabrina wipes a tear while a proud smile grows wider. The two of them had come a long way from the blows that were ready to be traded so long ago, friends parted by the gulfs of Space and Time had finally renewed and strengthened a bond long-thought severed. A Sayaka Miki who once upon a never declared Homura a demon would be just that... a never be. Compassion had won.

[:V] Try making a full Infinity Gauntlet

I doubt we could actually do it- thus the :V- but we have made incomplete versions before.

Based off @Vebyast's vote.

[X] In whatever order makes sense:

[x] Brainmail the Pleiades. Topics:
-[x] Current events. How are things? The situation in Tokyo.
-[x] Defenses against mind magic.

[X] Enchantment topics:
-[x]Ask Sayaka if her enchantment would lend itself to copying things, be it replicating existing enchantments or some other means.
--[x]Offer to use/share your enchantment booster for rapid prototyping.

-[X] Protective enchantments. Mind shields, antimagic, maybe danger-vision from one of the sight powers, etc.
-[x] Griefhax with emotion-enchanted grief.
-[x] Try to make a tracking enchantment using the emotions you made your wings from.

Added in the Sayaka basic enchantment talk, and made the prototyping a subvote of that.

Also added the tracking enchantment because it feels like we're close to it, and I think it would prove highly useful based on our conflicts and activities so far. How many times has a potentially significant portion of a conflict been just finding someone in the first place and doing so in time? The fight against Oriko, finding Akiko in time during the closing moments in Sendai, finding Sayaka during Our Benefactor, Kuroki, a huge bunch during the Asunaro fight...

Yes, we solved a lot of those with Oriko's help, but I do think this effect could come in quite handy, especially for finding her if something happens to her. (Ideally, we should figure out what Feathers does there before the deadline, but this may allow us to interrupt things while they're in progress if no research to that end pans out or things happen before we expect.)

Additionally, the feelings we used to make those wings are strong feelings for us, and may assist.

[X] Ask Hitomi about inviting Homura to the Shizukidinner.

Slight edit as everyone already knows. Hitomi did ask when we were all gathered together.

[X] Sanitized summary of Tokyo for everyone
-[X] Light on details; you'll write the details up later so you don't mess up while extemporizing (and so you can run it past Homura first.)

[X] Mention wanting to bring mental health professionals into this somehow. Cite Akemi & Norikos as example of why.

[X] Talk about Oriko's new powers in a privacy bubble. Same routine as earlier, explain how wish magic works, but try to explain it both from both a logical and an emotional perspective to help Madoka, Sayaka, and Hitomi understand.
-[x] Subtly make sure that Homura is on board with your arguments too.
-[X] Ask that any discussion on the matter of Oriko's power occur in some kind of secrecy for the time being, to help keep details from Kyuubey for the time being.

I'll point out that we are also explaining things to Hitomi here. She has a more rational and analytical mindset than Sayaka and should be considered as a major factor in the discussion here, considering her actions and arguments in the past. (Someone else can probably tailor things better than I can, but this feels like a start.)

Additionally, while open discussion of Oriko's power will probably pop up once it becomes necessary, I'd like to keep it secret until she chooses to reveal it herself, and I think it could be useful blindside Kyuubey as to the exact nature of the change, if at all possible. Mostly however, it's because she chose to tell us in secrecy and we should respect that.

On which note: Cut telepathy talk, to avoid giving the game away to Kyuubey. Another specific method of doing so may be possible, but I'd rather not give the rat our cliff notes.

Though that said, I'm honestly not sure why we can't just outright say "Homura and myself discussed this earlier, and now that we have the opportunity you two should be filled in too."

[] Ask Homura to stick around for a while after by telepathy.
[X] Ask everyone besides Hitomi if they'll be staying for dinner.

I'm honestly not sure whether this will even be necessary. Hitomi specifically mentioned that she would not be staying for dinner, we talked about fattening Homura up in our inner monologue during that bit, and no one else said anything on the matter.

----------------------------

Also, as far as trusting Kyuubey is concerned, it occurs to me there's a line we should drop sometime:

[22:25:10] GriefBeGone: I'd like to say I don't trust cabbits as far as I can throw them, but that doesn't mean much considering how far those things can fly.

I am so proud of Homura! She seems to be overcoming her fears really well. The blinding-for-kilometers smile on Sabrina's face mirrored my own as I was reading it. I am a bit worried though that one day, one of Homura's fears will come true, though, and that may bring back her old habits.

I was sort of catastrophizing about Homura's reactions, but it ended up going absolutely wonderfully. Before this update I was a bit afraid of Sayaka figuring it out, but now, I'm nervously excited that she might.

"I don't want Madoka to-" Homura grimaces. "It... maybe?"

You can't help the surprise that flickers across your face, and you beam at Homura.

"She wants to help," Homura mutters, ducking her head. "But it's dangerous. She doesn't understand, she always throws herself into it."

I'm really glad that it seems like Homura immediately thought of the same thing we did about Madoka's tendency to want to help and this as a way to deal with that immediately without us even saying anything about our motive for wanting to have Madoka join in.

that won't be necessary for now.

Point for Homura in the "that won't be necessary" war.

That won't be necessary! :D
Sabrina: 7
"That..." You cough, before rasping out, "That won't be necessary."
You blink first. "... OK, then. But that won't be necessary. let me try something first."
"Uh, that won't be necessary," you reply.
"That won't be necessary," you say to the University girls, a tiny smirk crossing your face. A shame Homura isn't hear, but... one for the mental scoreboard, anyway.
"Nah, that won't be necessary," you call over your shoulder as you turn and head back to the kitchen to grab a stack of clean plates and utensils.
"... I suppose that won't be necessary?" you venture.
"... I suppose that won't be necessary?" you venture.

A nearly imperceptible narrowing of her eyes sharpens her gaze to an unamused glare.

You snicker, grinning at her.

Homura: 9
"That won't be necessary," Homura says.
"That won't be necessary," she says, carefully untying the rope from around her waist. "I have a longer rope." She lets go of her end of the rop-
"That won't be necessary," she says, as she heads for the door.
"That won't be necessary," Homura says, herself standing. She immediately begins collecting dishes, and Mami reluctantly sits up straight to help. You reach out too, stacking them up.
"That won't be necessary," Homura murmurs.
"That won't be necessary," Homura responds, tilting her head slightly.
"That won't be necessary," she says, tapping the edge of her shield.
"That won't be necessary," Homura says, and for a wonder, doesn't flip her hair.
"Where're you?" you say. "Maybe we could pick you up?"

"That won't be necessary," Homura says. "It's not on your way."
"I don't have any Grief Seeds from Walpurgisnacht," Homura says, shaking her head and grimacing. "I never found any. Rehatched Witches tend to be stronger. More powerful. The Grief Seeds are less stable, more prone to hatching again. Clear Seeds... that won't be necessary for now."

Homura wins, 9 points to Sabrina's 7!

Interesting note, on more than one occasion, they bookended an event by saying that, and Homura is distinctly aware that Sabrina considers slipping that phrase into a conversation to be something of a game.

Also, bonus Oriko contrarianism!
The note is short, and written in flowing, picture-perfect Hiragana penmanship of the sort someone who's taken lessons for half her life would have. It says, simply, 'This was, and remains, necessary.'

And conversion!
Oriko gives you an unimpressed look. "I'm sure that won't be necessary, Sabrina," she says.

inb4 the real arc words is "That won't be necessary"
I mean, it could fit?

Mami: "I make myself a senpai so I don't feel the crushing weight of loneliness."
Sabrina: "That won't be necessary."

Homura: "I'm cold and distant because of my many traumas and because it's the only thing keeping me going."
Sabrina: "That won't be necessary."

Kyouko: "Using Darwinian logic is the only way to survive."
Sabrina: "That won't be necessary."

Oriko: "I will do vague precog things and antagonize people because I have a death wish."
Sabrina: "That won't be necessary."

Kazumi: "I'm sacrificing my health because I love my friends."
Sabrina: "That won't be necessary."

In the future?

Kyubey: "I sacrifice thousands of thousands of young women's lives in order to keep the universe alive."
Sabrina: "That won't be necessary."

Oh yeah, Sabrina did make an Infinity Gauntlet thingy before. (it was an enchantment booster IIRC?)

... If we do make it again, maybe we should consciously decide not to snap our fingers while wearing it.

I think Sabrina should get bonus points for it being her first words.
Like mother, like daughter?

I'm sorry... I'm so sorry...
The joke... I just can't resist

Sabrina: You know, Homura, the first words I said were, "That won't be necessary".
Homura's brow raises by a fraction of a centimeter as she turns to face Sabrina. She looks... slightly amused whilst bemused.
Homura: Is that so?
Sabrina: Yep! Too bad they weren't "Ho-mu-ra", Mom~.
First came a strangled noise from the back of her throat, Homura's eyes widening with incredulity, followed by the palm of her hand meeting her face... followed by an annoyed hiss.

Homura: You're incorrigible!

No I'm not.

Will take the tweak to the enchantment-booster; that was my intent and I didn't state it clearly enough.

Will include the suggestion to Sayaka.

Let me think about the rest.
[X] Ask Hitomi about inviting Homura to the Shizukidinner.

Thanks, will do.

I specifically focus on Sayaka and Madoka because, frankly, we don't need to focus on Hitomi here. She has no direct involvement, is not a potential, and does not have a psychiatric disorder. We don't need to tailor this briefing to her because it'd be far more difficult to botch this so that she causes problems - the vast majority of the approaches that'd work on Sayaka and Madoka would also work on Hitomi.

That said, I'll tweak a word or two to make sure that we're not being all emotion.

I... uh, kind of figured that Oriko had been experimenting with her new powers when we weren't around, in which case Kyubey already knew about them.

On the telepathy... Basically, I think that Homura gets massively greater utility out of this information than Kyubey.
  • Kyubey probably knows much of it already. Homura doesn't.
  • Kyubey isn't talking to Sayaka and therefore has limited ability to apply social-fu. Homura will be talking to Sayaka constantly for a while.
  • Kyubey wasn't party to our earlier lecture and will be missing a great deal of context. If we are being brief, we'd likely be referring back to that conversation heavily, which would be efficient for communicating with Homura but would further deprive Kyubey of useful information.
  • We said we'd help Homura understand why we're doing the things we do. This is an effort in that direction.
[] Ask Homura to stick around for a while after by telepathy.

Asking everyone if they want dinner is rather more straightforward, yes. Will change to that.

-[x] Telepathically give Homura quick notes on various conversational maneuvers as you make them, e.g. purely rational approach for her but adding a narrative and emotion for Sayaka+Madoka.

[X] Ask everyone (besides Hitomi) if they'll be staying for dinner.
-[x] Don't let Homura leave until you've loaded her down with food.
