@Hannz: I'm sceptical, though it isn't completely nonsensical. Put it in...dammit Onmur. Anyway, a single line is enough for a snack and gorge and feed and grow into a larger vote. (i.e. like the Narrator's is doing, right now.)

How many hits for an out?
Huh, didn't consider this. How did we handle this with Kyoko, again?

*goes back to find and reread*

Edit: Here it is:
Non-lethal," you reply instantly. You take a moment to debate with yourself whether to add in a stipulation about Soul Gems as well.

"No fucking duh," Kyouko drawls. You hold up a finger, still thinking, and briefly wondering how Kyouko and Mami and who knows what else haven't figured out what you call the lichbomb by themselves, before discarding that set of thoughts as irrelevant and silly for now.

"First to yield," you suggest, lowering the finger. "And spar ends if one of us is unable or unwilling to continue."

"Anything goes?" Kyouko says, a glint that you don't quite like in her eyes.

"Sure," you say.
Firn's writing is...engrossing. The update previous we proposed it.

Quick sufficientvelocity, we must provide Sabrina with all our battle knowledge! I can give a few poor Taekwondo kicks.
I wrestled for years half a lifetime ago. Pretty rusty now, though the style I fell into was about running to perform attacks from the side.

Lots of people seemed to be assuming that Mami would be tying people up with ribbons, so I figured it would be only fair if we did the same. It kind of all comes down to what it takes to be 'out' in this match, and we still haven't been told that. If just tagging someone is enough, then it's a non-issue. When I get home from work I'll edit the vote to clarify things.

Unimaginable?

So, what counts as an 'out' for this match?

Are we sure we don't want to play on a timer instead? Again, stock vs score for training purposes, score is usually nicer.

We could throw out the question about whether to play "Last Meguca Standing" or for points, I guess. I just assumed it was the former because combat training tends to be "you're hit, you're dead, you're out".

While I was at work, I couldn't help but think about things that Sayaka probably doesn't know about fighting (because movies and anime don't generally talk about them) that she really should, like "slicing the pie" and how to take corners safely. I doubt we have time to teach her about those before the match, but maybe afterwards we can discuss them? It ties into her general tendency to rush in without watching for danger from the sides, so it might help with that.

A couple of thoughts.

[x] "So, what counts as an 'out' for this match? And do we get airsoft guns, too, or are we just attacking you guys with our magical weapons?"
We're not meguca who regularly use guns. I don't think we should be using guns for training either.

[x] Grab something big to use as a shield as we make the final rush on Homura. If we can summon a hammer with no head, do that: we need speed rather than smashing power. Try to throw a hammer at her feet as a decoy, and try to get close enough to glomp her if Sayaka's not already engaging her in melee. If glomping doesn't count as an 'out', put her in grief restraints.
How about shielding from the start?

Also, warn Sayaka to not attack Homura until we're both ready to attack, and that to not try our pincer attack while Homura's on open ground, as Mami will destroy us if we do. We need to stay close to cover always.

[x] "So, what counts as an 'out' for this match? And do we get airsoft guns, too, or are we just attacking you guys with our magical weapons?"
-[x] "...you guys are going to just be using airsoft, right?" *gulp*

Sayaka:
[X] Can she magic up a shield to go with that sword? if not, scavenge some car doors or something to use as shields for both of you. They only need to stand up to airsoft.
[X] Always keep moving and never stop.
[X] Stay close to cover.
[X] Abuse your flight as much as you can.
[X] Use projectiles as distractions.

[X] Mami and Homura will split up and try to pin us down, so watch out.
[X] Sabrina can feel their presence, and warn Sayaka if she's getting flanked.

[X] We'll split up and try to hit Homura from both sides at once.
-[X] She'll notice, so don't rush in until we're both close enough, and don't rush in if Homura's standing on open ground, as Mami will ventilate us then.
-[X] If there's no cover when you need to attack, make cover.

[] No explosions :S

[x] If we can take Homura out, try the same pincer maneuver on Mami.
[x] In the highly probable event that we lose despite our best efforts, accept it with good cheer, tell Sayaka she did well, and give mad props to whoever took us out.
[x] Whoever wins, congratulate everyone on a good match, high five Sayaka, hug Mami and tell her how awesome she was, and ask for feedback on our tactics and performance.
[x] Suggest that we change up the teams and go again.

Get rid of this?

We'll end the spar the 'normal' way. It's all normal fighting but holding back the final strike.

We've even got examples: :V
You snatch your fingers away just in time and whirl away, dragging your hammer by the other hand. The head hooks against Sayaka's sword, and there's enough time for her eyes to widen before you send the blade flying with a fluid twist.

Sayaka leaps back, white cape swirling around her.

Cape.

You stomp on the edge of the white cloth, trapping it against the concrete.

There's a faint tug, and Sayaka pulls free, the cloak snapping off at her shoulders. Her eyes widen, and she hops back, holding up both gloved hands. "Hey hey hey," she complains. "My cape?"

Amused giggles float from the sidelines, Sayaka shooting Madoka a betrayed look.
Brina wins by disarming Sayaka.

You pivot backwards and away, lashing out at her knees with a weak, off balance blow. She flows out of the way with fluid grace, and you only manage to catch her shin. You try to pull her off balance, but she's already set and she has her sword to your neck and a bright, exuberant look in her eyes.

You huff. "I yield."

Sayaka drops the sword, crowing. "Whoohoooooo!"
Sayka wins by putting a blade to Brina's face.

@Onmur, I was already working on changing that bit. But keep in mind that grappling is actually Homura's #1 combat weakness. When Kyouko put her in a bind, her only way out was to use a grenade.

So... a question. If Homura and Sayaka are both taken out and it's down to just us vs. Mami, what should we do? Call the match because continuing further is pointless if Sayaka's not involved? Try to get a good spar in with Mami while we can? Let things devolve into a tickle fight? Any suggestion for strategies if the pincer maneuver is out?

[x] "So, what counts as an 'out' for this match? Or are we going to count how many hits we take and total the score at the end?"
-[x] "...you guys are going to just be using airsoft, right? *gulp*"
[x] Get Sayaka behind cover. Rip the doors off of cars or fridges to use as shields unless doing so causes a serious loss of mobility.
[x] "Okay, Sayaka, our only real advantages here are flight and speed. We're going to break in opposite directions to divide their attention."
-[x] "Fly low, move fast, keep cover between you and them as much as possible. We'll swing wide and try to hit Homura from both sides at once."
--[x] "They'll be trying to do the same thing to us, so don't get so focused on one that you lose track of the other. If they start to pen you in, use your speed and flight to escape. And don't just rush straight in, it gives them a clear shot at you."
---[x] "Fire near them to keep them off-balance. If you have some way to create dust clouds and flashes to blind them, do that. And if that lightshow you produce when you fly can move separately from you, use that as a decoy. If not, it's fine, just use speed, cover and suppressing fire."
[x] Do just that. As we run, try to throw warhammers at the ground with enough force to crater it and/or use our wings to blow air across the ground to produce dust clouds to reduce their visibility. If there's a stretch with no cover, use our warhammer to punt something out there to make cover.
[x] Use our senses to track the locations of all combatants. Use telepathy to keep Sayaka informed of where the other team is and warn her of potential ambushes.
[x] Find an opportune moment to come at Homura from both sides. If we can summon a hammer with no head, do that: we need speed rather than smashing power. Try to throw a hammer at her feet as a decoy, and try to get close enough to engage her without getting in Sayaka's way.
-[x] If Sayaka is doing just fine against Homura on her own, focus on keeping Mami from sniping her as they fight.
-[x] If we noticed during the match that Sayaka had a tendency to go past corners without turning her head to check for hostiles hiding there, explain to her about the tactic known as "slicing the pie" and the dangers of getting ambushed from one's blind spot because one rushed forward without watching for attacks from the sides.

Booooooo.

Yisssssssssssss.

[ ] Try to stay hidden under cover and approach into mid-range abusing Grief senses to know where Mami is. Then try to close into melee range

and lose, but that's not part of the vote. :V

And also maintaining the fiction that e.g. a sword to the neck is a real threat.

But, then, actually cutting our head off would be rude. And letting her would be inconvenient.
"Oh my gosh Sayaka, you can't slice Homura's neck like that, the blood gets everywhere. And what if you cut her hair??? That would be terrible! Mami! Can you pass me my arm- thanks! Let me fix myself up really quickly and we can put Homu's head back in place."

*Sighs*

While decapitation isn't fatal for a magical girl, it would pretty much incapacitate them, which would make it easy for the hostile M.G. to then smash their gem at their leisure. So it is pretty much a losing situation.

No opinion on the tickle-fight option? :D

That's for mornings. At least, if Mami fights back next time. :V

Do not try to come at Homura from both sides. That didn't even work for Kyouko. She'd just timestop, take one step back, and leave you to hit each other while a flashbang goes off where she was.

Well, one of two things depending on where the soul gem links to a magical girl's nervous system: either they would be conscious severed head unable to do anything but blink at their enemy, or they would be a blind, deaf headless body. Neither seems likely to be an effective combatant.

(We might still be able to use our grief control and sensing to remain a viable opponent, but I'd rather not test it out if we don't have to.)

It's a low-magic fight with airsoft. Homura shouldn't be timestopping or employing grenades. If she does, we're gonna have to start using our grief powers to even the odds. :p

My assumption was that it controls the whole body and would continue to do so in pieces. Still, maybe test with a hand first.

Though I suppose it'd still be disorienting to not have your eyes in the correct position relative to anything below your neck though.

Homura shouldn't be timestopping or employing grenades.

What about airsoft grenades? Or water balloons?

We agreed to "some magic". Homura's timestop movement is as basic as our wings or Sayaka's airdash or Mami's rope swing. As long as Homura doesn't use it to shoot back. A flashbang is relatively harmless to everyone here, and could count as a "hit".

Wait, I forgot about Masami. One of her hands was entirely severed, and the description is vague on whether any connection remained between her upper and lower halves, but her spine was definitely cut. It's possible that she was entirely controlling those parts of her body with her telekinesis and had no feeling there, but if not then meguca might be able to control severed body parts.

...Now who wants to ask Masami for details about the experience of her horrific injury to find out? :o

Well, if that does happen then it will be a good lesson for Sayaka. :D

EDIT: If Homura does use grenades or something else unexpected, then we'll just have to trust that Sabrina can adapt in the moment. We can't account for every eventuality in the vote without adding two pages of if->then statements.

[Q] At some point during the spar, swap Chibi Brina's coat for Chibi Mami's hat.
-[Q] When the spar is over and you inevitably lose, have Hatted Chibi Brina hug Sayaka to make her feel better.
