Well, I was prepping something, but there's no reason to disagree with a nice, simple vote without any real silliness in it.

Personally I would recommend that we tell her in a full group setting. That way Sayaka and Madoka are both included without needing to do or arrange anything special. We can private chat with her later.

Would you rather talk about something awkward alone or with all your friends listening in?

Are we talking about different things? This is letting her in on a secret everyone else involved already knows. Yeah, there are uncomfortable parts, but why would we want to isolate this? It would make it awkward for everyone if we did.

Things like helping us keep blueberry and 'doka from contracting, Sayaka's problems, their mutual crush, we'd bring up privately anyway. That is common sense.

And to answer your rhetorical question, I usually do better the more people I trust I have around.

Then we see things differently- and I don't really think bringing a crowd in for Hitomi helps. We can have an initial talk then bring her to talk with the others.

Clearly the best way to include her in something the group regularly discusses is to isolate her and tell her privately.

Also clearly, the best way to let Sayaka and Madoka feel they have a say is to not include them in the introduction. It's callous to say, but Hitomi can take being put on the spot, and she can also take being excluded. Madoka and Sayaka aren't as strong and would be more greatly affected by us doing this alone. I'm not too worried if things are momentarily awkward for Hitomi.

Oh, dinner suggestions. Always been a bit of a foodie. Roast lamb with garlic, rosemary, roasties and lemony carrots is always bloody delicious and great for forcing people into a food coma.
Sounds great, but doesn't sound like something quick to prepare. On the other hand, now I want gyros....

And for food, gyros and hummus and pita bread.

...That's why Sayaka's tagging along if she wants to, and why there's a follow up conversation. I'd rather not make this any messier than necessary.

I really fail to see how it's any less messy, you know, just... including her? Like, are Homura and Mami (who I had actually assumed both would be part of this anyway) and Madoka really going to cause a fuss? They aren't. And Madoka is as much Hitomi's friend as Sayaka is, so I really don't get including Sayaka and not Madoka even so.

Is Mami old enough to buy wine? The sauce makes the pasta, and without wine we may have to go with store-bought sauces.

The main problem involves just her and Hitomi so having it be just them is a fairly major hint to talk it out. Will everyone else be part of the follow up? Yes. Should they be there for the actual conversation we're nudging them towards? Not so much.

How is telling Hitomi that magic exists supposed to nudge them towards talking about their crushes? I'm pretty sure Hitomi's going to be focused on overhauling her view of the whole universe.

"A-are you sure about this?"

"Sure I'm sure! Watch a master at work . . . "

A strangely-tall girl approaches the counter.

"Excuse me, I'd like to buy this," she said as she placed a bottle of wine on the counter. "It's for a sauce."

The man working the register sized her up, then asked for identification. The girl immediately began sweating bullets, stammering something about technically not existing long enough to have one.

A girl strides up to the counter with a bottle of wine and charisma radiating from her like an aura.

She places the bottle on the counter, and immediately produces identification.

However, the date it was issued was about 7 years from now, and thus it was rejected immediately.

"Fuck no, I'm not going anywhere near that store."

Sabrina tilted her head in bafflement. "Why?"

Kyouko's responding look could wither dandelions, as she lifted fingers and listed: "Their selection's bad, their prices are robbery, there's better-quality stuff three blocks down the road, the clerks are too attentive, and the previous manager was an asshole. Haven't tried it since."

Ah. That makes sense eno--wait a minute . . .

"Um, my mother sent me to get some things . . . "

The pinkette set her basket down at the register, and the clerk rung up several items -- baking ingredients, some pasta, ingredients for a good sauce, and lastly a bottle of wine. The clerk blinked at this, but looking at Madoka narrowed his eyes a bit -- as though trying to put a face to a name. "Who's your mother, little lady?"

"Junko Kaname -- I'm Madoka, her daughter."

The clerk said the name to himself a few times, before suddenly turning several shades paler and quickly ringing up the purchase, throwing in the order of craft beers Madoka had originally been sent to pick up.

It may not have been the most strictly legal thing, but under the circumstances . . .

" . . . Sabrina?"

"Yes, Mami?"

"Perhaps it's best we never speak of this again."

"Good idea."

Hm.

I wonder how good of a fake-ID we could create with grief. I doubt there are many Puella working at the sort of places that would card her so it's not like anyone would notice the ID being made from grief.

So it's really just a question of how well we can make something that looks like an ID. Although if they have some kinda Future!ID with an RF chip that might complicate things, although it's still within the realm of what's possible.

The real problem would be if they actually have ID checking machines that hook up to a central database via the internet.
