If free cleansing doesn't work money sure as shit won't.
Maybe, maybe not. It might be just the thing to push a person over the edge from accepting to not accepting. Maybe an enemy might start thinking about helping their granny with hospital bills or something. The point is that it makes our odds better, even if it's not a magic bullet. Free Cleansing + Cash Money has better odds than just Free Cleansing alone is all I'm saying.

Also, I don't think we should get too far into the units of our range. Chances are Firn just thought 100m sounded good and it's unrelated to the rest of the magical system. We're unlikely to get data on the underlying structure from it.

Contact with grief doesn't pull people into timestop, even if we're in timestop,

Well:
An effort of will tugs at the Grief, pulling the corruption free in a billowing torrent. Brief colour washes over the girl, her dress revealed to be a sparkling sky blue to match her eyes, though those are currently red and puffy from crying.

The timestop reclaims her as the last of the Grief comes free,

Pulling grief out of their soul gem does seem to bring them into the time stop.

just as contact with a Soul Gem doesn't pull the Gem's owner into timestop.

...Have we actually seen this? Because I don't remember this happening and I can't see why it wouldn't pull them into timestop.

I don't think that asking Kyubey why a soul gem can only control bodies to 100m is actually a problematic question.

He'll probably give us a non-answer, but it's as safe a question as we can ask.
On the contrary, Kyuubey in PMMM seems quite willing to answer any questions that the girls ask. He answers deceitfully by hiding as much information as he reveals, but he never tells any direct untruths and it almost seems like answering questions truthfully is something that he is compelled to do. He may not want to answer some of these questions, and he will likely try to hide things, but the following are things that I want to ask him:
1. What are Kyuubey's motivations?
2. What are the "rules" governing his behavior and who enforces them?
3. Why does Kyuubey endeavor to only make statements that are true and not directly lie?
4. What is the mechanism for collecting usable energy from contracts and witchouts?
5. What is the mechanism for converting grief into usable energy?
6. Is the Puella Magi/Witch system something that was artificially created by the incubators, or is it an intrinsically human phenomenon that they merely figured out how to trigger and harvest?
7. Is the soul gem extraction process an intrinsic part of the Puella Magi/Witch system, or was it something that the incubators added separately?
8. If soul gems are artificial, why do incubators create them?
9. Why is the control range from a soul gem to a body limited to 100m?
10. Why does Kyuubey encourage Puella Magi to fight witches (instead of letting them starve)?
11. Why does Kyuubey try to keep his existence and the existence of Puella Magi/Witches secret from the general human population?
12. Can Kyuubey operate multiple bodies at once? Is his race a hivemind?
13. How many incubators/incubator bodies are on Earth? In the galaxy? In the Universe? What about other alien races?
14. How much potential does Sayaka have (compared to an average human contractee).

100m is from Rebellion where Homura says that the gem control range is 100m, and anything longer requires a witch.

In general, I think part of the reason that people don't want to get in an extended Q&A session with Kyubey is A) they are concerned about the possibility of him being able to deduce information about our motivations and plans (or, for that matter, just what we know) from our choice of questions and B) no-one can agree on a list of questions he might ask that we are willing to answer in turn.

"Um," Mami says, thinking. "Durability, magic shields, space expansion, colour, um. Transforming normal objects into similar ones, though that's sort of tricky, keeping my tea warm, uhh, my hair. A few little animated toys, but they don't do much."
She's keeping tea in expanded space and maintaining its warmth with more magic.

Tea cups solved. :D

Also, re materials: we could probably make some sort of transmutation device that turns random scrap in to whatever else we need. If we can practice magic/spar in convenient junkyard we can start using up all the scrap metal without too much notice, I bet.

A) Kyuubey already has more than enough information to deduce our motivations based on telepathy tapping, his observations of our past actions, and his vast experience with human behavior. Our abilities are unprecedented, but our motivations and plans (so far) are not.
B) Kyuubey owes us answers because he contracted us without fully explaining things to begin with. We don't owe him jack.

We owe him a lot of pain, but since he's an emotionless sockpuppet...

...which one? :p

Or more accurately which part?
Endless timestop.

[]Talk to Mami. Bring up telling Hitomi the truth and the possibility of healing their friend since it isn't fair to her or Sayaka to keep her out of the loop, and you think it might be making things worse between them. Ask Sayaka via telepathy if she's okay with the idea, and if she wants to be there for it or to tell Hitomi herself if so.
[]When we reach the hospital, after they've talked to Kyousuke for a while, ask to have a word with Hitomi in private. Tell her everything that Madoka and Sayaka know already.

Do suggest something for dinner too, by the by. I could think of something, but indulge me this, yeah?
Oh, dinner suggestions. Always been a bit of a foodie. Roast lamb with garlic, rosemary, roasties and lemony carrots is always bloody delicious and great for forcing people into a food coma. I cooked it for my cousin and her friends once, they accused me of ruining their diets which I think is a fantastic compliment personally. Or there's roasted Mediterranean vegetables with chicken and couscous if you want to go for the Italian theme.

Personally one thing I love is Unagi, delicious stuff, Japanese speciality involving braised river eel. Can't get any here so I've got to make do using conga eel instead. More of a side dish though really. Could go with spicy Japanese curry, reactions to chilli always makes for some good Waff.

[]Catch up to the others.

Since Mami likes to yell her attacks in Italian, pasta, cannolis, and some other Italian food sounds good.
For dessert, the 'Tiro Finale' special.

More accurately, the part where we sent off Homura with our Soul Gem and she went out of our range.
Pulling grief out of their soul gem does seem to bring them into the time stop.
But that's us interacting with somebody's Gem while it was attached to her body.

1. What are Kyuubey's motivations?
We already know that. Kinda pointless unless you're including the question as misdirection. His motive is that he wants to gather as much energy as possible, for the stated purpose of delaying the heat death of the universe. I have theorized that this is another half-truth, and that he's really just gathering energy to fuel his massive intergalactic empire, but that's a discussion for another time.

We still haven't tested whether our magic requires to stay whithin one hundred meters of our body, our Soul Gem, or both.

More accurately, the part where we sent off Homura with our Soul Gem and she went out of our range.

Huh. Your right. That is rather interesting:

She nods slowly, letting the hand holding your Soul Gem fall to her side. "That won't be necessary," she says, carefully untying the rope from around her waist. "I have a longer rope." She lets go of her end of the rop-

-e. You grimace. "Ugh. Never going to get used to that." Homura's tying a brightly coloured length of rope to the one currently bound around your waist, and you follow that rope with your eyes - it trails across the landscape, reaching to the top of some old, half built structure, all exposed steel and I-beams. Homura nods at you, finishing the knot, and then lets g-

-o again. "Argh," you mumble into the floor.

Wait, why are you on the floor?

You push yourself up, off the floor, and look at the old structure where the rope led to... where the rope doesn't lead to.

...

At a guess, Homura misjudged the distance? She's now set up on a nearer building, and is waving an arm so that you can see her. You wave back at her, and she puts her hand down.

So If I'm following this right:

1) Homura is holding Sabrina's Soul Gem in her hand.
2) Homura let's go of the rope connecting her to Sabrina's body
3) Sabrina seems to drop out of timestop
4) Homura moves over to the building, outside of our range, sets up the rope and comes back
5) Homura ties the longer rope to the one connected to Sabrina bringing Sabrina back into timestop
6) Homura lets go of the rope causing Sabrina to drop back out of timestop
7) Homura moves over to the building, outside of our range, and grabs the rope.
8) Sabrina comes back into the timestop but since we are >100m her Soul Gem and Body do not connect so she falls down.
9) Homura relocates to a closer building within 100m

So from this we can tell:
  • Physical contact with a Soul Gem detached from a body is insufficient to keep the Puella inside timestop
  • Physical contact still works even over distances >100m

Most strange. Most strange indeed.

Well, yes. We were holding Kirika's gem later and Kirika was still time-stopped.

Homura's abilitiy simply doesn't seem to have range limits.
