I have edited to change from Regulation to Restriction, since it sounds reasonable, and I seem to have misunderstood the meaning of 'regulate' and 'restrict' in this context.

Yeah, they do. They produce entertainment and enjoyment. Those things have value because we value them as human beings.
By all means, good sir, ignore the point by arguing a technicality. A technicality that, at the current level of economic complexity, isn't actually present in the system.

They do not produce anything. They are, ultimately, consumers. They do not generate more goods that can eventually be traded to others, and they are unlikely to trade their goods themselves as their jobs are rather enjoyable. They are, at our current barter economy, an economic black hole, that takes goods and gives no usable commodity in return.

They barter food or dye for HAPPINESS!

all work and no play makes jack a dull boy

On the matter of the economic effects of entertainment, I think it's reasonable to say that entertainers produce for the community in the form of increasing other producers' efficiency. People who are well entertained and happy work more efficiently, since they do not need to devise ways to entertain themselves while working.

Im pulling out my vote for now. Im torn between two things that i want to do. Maybe we should talk morw on this before voting first?

First: i REALLY want to raise our martial and get that step farm. I decided to make a No choice on the spirit talkers doing a festival should help mitigate and its within our eco too
[X] Regulate such activities

[X] No

[X] {Main} Establish Annual Festival
[X] {Secondary} Expand Warriors
[X] {Secondary} Step-Farms

Second: this is more inline with what we have been doing. The main option would let us take bettor results on the valley settlement options next turn. Taking the two secondary options together might make a good combination...but i want to expand our martial...

[X] Regulate such activities

[X] No

[X] {Main} Organize Settlement
-[X] Valley
[X] {Secondary} Establish Annual Festival
[X] {Secondary} Dedicate Place to Spirits
As it is right now you are voting for all the things. You must chose one or the other.

[X] Regulate such activities
[X] No
[X] {Main} Dedicate Place to Spirits
[X] {Secondary} Establish Annual Festival
[X] {Secondary} Domesticate Snails

[X] Regulate such activities
[x] No
[x] {secondary} Organize Settlement
-Valley
[x] {Secondary} Establish Annual Festival
[x] {secondary} Expand Farms

Wow, nice the lowlanders got fucked, but damn it now the SPIRITS RELIGION group feels like they gained validity despite this not really proving anything concretely even more so since it apparently took FIVE FUCKING YEARS to do it.

I'm not arguing a technicality "good sir". The fact of the matter is that a lot of people in society produce intangible goods that have a real effect on the world. If you entertain people and keep them happy, you increase their productivity and avoid social unrest.

So, if magic does turn out to be real, what sort of magic do we want to have? If there's much of a choice, I'd hope that we could have some sort of "King of the Rivers and Hills" magic that makes shaping the land go faster.

I don't really see the point in restricting sex work in this under the argument that it's "non-productive".

There's an opportunity here that, if we expand it and encourage the sex workers to travel outside our lands, mingle with nearby peoples and their power brokers, and come back, we can one-up a lot of the potential enemies around us.

In a word: Espionage

Clients of sex workers and courtesians typically have loose lips, they grow to trust and more and more, and ultimately, will spill significant amounts of info and secrets about their day-to-day lives.

Secrets have power that could we could use against current threats and future enemies and we could make like Littlefinger (who mind you, was such a threat because he found an information gold mine in the whorehouses that was a brilliant weapon against his enemies).

Hell, with enough training, they could be assassins too.

The Spirit Talkers may have an advantage right now, but their power is in their knowledge around the spirits. Knowledge is something that needs to be passed down, from generation to generation. If the teaching apparatus is broken by a sudden outbreak of stabbings from unknown assailants and the next generation doesn't have the required knowledge to wreak spirit havoc, we would avoid the spirit talkers potentially vassalizing our coalition.

@Malevolo If you wish to vote for building the dam, you must write it as [][Write In] Great Canal as requested by Acadamia Nut.

@McLuvin @highs2lows @Kiba @Ghostdevil The format of voting is
[] {main/secondary} option
NOT
[] option {main/secondary}

Please alter your votes

No gods or kings, only men:p

Okay, here's my argument.
[X] Regulate such activities
Honestly, I sort of intend for this to be our answer to the slave practices of the Lowlanders. What happens in the Valley stays in the Valley. Including any children.

[X] No (high chance of social strife, mitigated by certain other choices)
This is less because I don't want to lose the money, and more because I don't want to cede that much control to outsiders.

[X] {Main} Dedicate Place to Spirits
We need this to offset the potential internal strife from the decision to not fellate the Spirit Talkers after they decided that we were acceptable casualties. More, there is a good reason not to start a Grand Project this turn.

[X] {Secondary} Organize Settlement
-[X] Valley
-[X] Coast
WE WANT TO DO THIS BEFORE WE START A DAM/CANAL. It will be much more efficient if we have already organized our settlements so that we know where we want our river/lake to go, and have cleared the easiest routes/areas to channel the things through before hand. More, if we do it next turn, we can declare an annual festival at the same time and make the dam/canal an important feature of it. Not only will that allow us to make the work a good thing instead of a massive chore (think a barn raising on a massive scale), it will allow us to make maintaining said grand work a major cultural touchstone. The last thing we want is for us to make a great work and then not maintain it because that isn't as glorious.

Currently our society allows women to be Elders, it also allows them some freedoms, allowing prostitution will force more and more women into the Industry and weaken the position of women in society. If stoping that isn't progressive to you I don't even...
Is the prostitution that is happening even restricted to women? Greco-Roman culture had no concept of homo/hererosexuality. In roman brothels there were both men and women. And you took the service of whoever was in the booth

I've already said why I focused on women.
Keep reading mate and you'll get there.
