The Fur Trade Company is intriguing though. It might cause Gylruv to expand into Not!Siberia as OTL!Russia did. Plus it'll diversify our exports so that we have a native resource to export.

I'll vote like this. Bank Primary, Siberia Secondary.

Trade companies of this age had been notoriously... unreliable exept a few examples, but even then, those successes were mostly because of offshore colonies and extensive government support, we don't have the former and we can't afford the latter and our waters are filled with enemy ships and pirates, a maritime trade company is simply a waste of resources. A bank enables startup companies to naturally be created and offer an economical safety net for the nation, it's simply far too good to not take right away. As for the Canal, well, I'd rather wait until later to build it, when banks have been fully established so that it wouldn't be as big of a blow to our funds.

Counterpoint: Canal is the kind of thing that will be eventually done; without us, Khemetri might well decide to go it alone.
I'd rather have a slice of the Suez Canal pie too, so....

@Academia Nut , are Khemetri able to finance and build Canal on their own?

Also for everyone saying the canal will bankrupt us, that's literally untrue. The Canal Company is to build irrigation canals for money and experience so that the canal is a realistic endeavor.

And remember how many early Companies wind up being quick buck scams, before the protection laws are devised.
Giving a central bank as much free rein has a significant risk of the shareholders taking the opportunity to perform grand larceny.
At least make sure there is some kind of tangible being created or moved. We hadn't learned how crazy a scam can be achieved yet

If the top 2 options are picked again, these are the ones I'd want. So long as we create the bank to help our finances.

@Academia Nut what's the exact difference between the Ymaryn-Khemetri Canal Company and the Greater Khem Trading Company? Does the second help build canals too, just with a wider scope?

In light of the likelyhood of the Boyars screwing it up, I'll take up the canal company cause as it has tremendous ancillary benefits if it keeps building canals, one of the greatest assets to industrialize a nation.

Academia Nut said:
The collaboration between the People and the Khemetri also brought up the potential idea of some form of canal system between the Saffron and Monsoon Seas within Khemetri territory that would make both kingdoms fabulously wealthy by cutting down trip lengths immensely, but the surveyors were distinctly uncertain about the possibility. [...]Perhaps lesser canals and dams within the Khemetri to facilitate internal trade and agriculture first to build up local expertise and funds?

Is the first the Ymaryn-Khemtri Canal Company and the later the Greater Khem Trading Company?

Both are the former, the latter is just trading with all of Africa.

It sounds like the Canal Company will hold the Not!Suez Canal as a sacred cow, holding it above lowly considerations like having engineering solutions or a sustainable business model first. It has tons of hype but no substance. That's going to turn into TTL South Sea Trading Company.

If we're set on increasing ties with the Khemetri, let's go with this instead:
[X] Ymaryn Crown Bank (1x)
[X] Greater Khem Trading Company (1x)

I suspect we are very much going to regret going central banking. Too many chances of it going wrong.

Explicitly not.
It was said by AN multiple times. In the update, as quoted above, and again here:
Don't think of it as a company to build the Suez canal, think of it as a railway company to get a better idea about what they would be doing.

So it would be a company that only would be building Suez canal after it would very well know what it is doing.

I stand corrected.

Maybe this can get a second Secondary Focus.

Currently, no way would they be able to do that. It's mostly the dream of kings and merchants with little idea the actual expense or logistics.

Ymaryn-Khemetri Canal Company would be to improve infrastructure in Khemetri in a manner profitable for the People. Greater Khem Trading Company is sending ships all around Africa to trade with the people there. Khemetri is the Egypt expie, Greater Khem is the terminology the People use for the entire continent of Africa, because for the longest time the Khem were their primary contact point with the continent.

Did the Khemetri Kingdom ever expand into Central Africa at any time? The climate is very different on this world, so I imagine that the Sahara would be much smaller here than IRL.

Actually, there were more than a few calls for a proper 'company' of some sort to help alleviate the financial issues, as well as build up some prestige given the major companies of the Syffrynites were often their face to the world.

Choose a company
[] Ymaryn Crown Bank (1x)
[] Monsoon Sea Trading Company (1.2x)
[] Greater Khem Trading Company (1x)
[] Ymaryn-Khemtri Canal Company (1.1x)
[] Hung Sea Trading Company (1x)
[] Far East Trading Company (0.8x)
[] North-East Fur Trading Company (0.8x)
Could you give us some arguments our advisors/merchants have for the various companies? As is I have no idea regarding the benefit differences between Monsoon Sea, Hung Sea, and Far East.

The Not!Nile is navigable into the equatorial jungles, and the Khemetri have had Sub-Saharan holdings of one form or another for millennia. While they have never been able to exert direct control over Central Africa for a variety of reasons, they have exerted enormous cultural influence on Central, Eastern, and Northern Africa.
