If we're not going to kick (and I don't think we should, our society is clearly struggling under the immense strain) then we can actually afford to stay at -1 stab. We won't be happy, but we miraculously didn't lose any cavalry this phase and even 1 additional point of cav so we're only outnumbered 2 to 1 in horsemen will go a long way.

Now, unless the northern nomads have a hero of their own, which they may or may not, a Heroic leader at MoS should be able to bait them into a decisive fight and crush them there. He can then wheel south towards the lowlands and the Forhuch will have to deal with another hero coming in on their flank.

I am going to strongly advocate for two heroes, for four reasons:
1. We are going to have an army that is probably too physically massive for one general to command.
2. The Forhuch would have to contend with two Heroic-level armies, both of which are larger than their own.
3. This gives us redundancy; should one hero fall, we have someone to replace them with.
4. If we have to split our focus, we don't have to worry about losing commander quality.

And from the narrative it seems like we have the means to produce the crucible steel but our other participants do not.
Yep

The end result was "king's iron", a method of blending different grades of iron together in a furnace using a sacrificial pot. The ingots so produced required skills and materials such that they were fairly judged as being at least worth their weight in gold, but it was also agreed that the metal was worth the effort. While only a miniscule amount could be produced, the products produced were fairly judged as being worthy of being wielded by kings and the greatest warriors of the land. While again the guilds grumbled a bit at various bits of knowledge getting out, they were more than a little mollified by the new product that they would definitely have an advantage in producing. Plus the patrician war leaders were plenty happy to have every extra edge possible.

We all know how to make it now, but we are the only ones who actually have enough iron production to make it in any worthwhile amounts.

Just outright attack the fucking Forhuch. Their successes are what summoned the nomads; their failure is what will make the nomads afraid. Plus, once their armies are crushed the king will lose legitimacy and need to retreat to make his hold secure. Furthermor, unlike the nomads they have actual hard targets we can hit and crush. And finally, fuck them for using captives like that. They deserve to die. 切りなきゃ。

Going into dented legitimacy while we have a fuckton of angry levies armed to the teeth seems like a really bad idea.

Restoring Order would actually just be using Proclaim Glory, since it increases the legitimacy of the King and makes people less nervous.

Our people are confused and starting riots, so we can't afford to have them disobeying orders. Our warriors will curb the bad behaviors to finally move the massive levies out of core area, which will help reduce armed idiots at home problem.

Restoration of Order - The people are uncertain, and into that uncertainty bad behaviour can flow. Send in the warriors to reassure people and root out corruption and dissent, restoring the proper function of the People, at the cost of disturbing their confidence that the king has their best interests at heart. Max Stability: Legitimacy-1
* S: Gain 0 to 2 Stability at a cost of -1 Legitimacy
* M: Roll twice, take best result, chance of additional +1 Stability
* modified by Administrative skill

Martial 9/37 {83/39} Levy Overmax: Pay for it later
Choose the disposition of your heroes
[] [Hero] Both the War Chief and the Governor of MoS are Heroic Martial
[] [Hero] The governor is competent enough, but War Chief is the ideal general (Heroic Martial and Diplo leader)
[] [Hero] The War Chief is an Avatar of War (Genius Martial, at least semi-stable Diplo and Admin)
Something to keep in mind with our Hero vote:

It's likely to have a lot of influence on how we end up paying for the Levy Overmax.

Especially since, if the War Chief is the only hero we get, he's near-certain to be our next King, whatever our Patricians think of him.

That... could be unpleasant, if we pick the Avatar of War.

The Ideal General gets to seriously tilt Ymar in favour of his preferred traits, whatever they are; he'll probably be more effective at it than the Genius. Either of them deciding they want their family to keep the Throne in perpetuity after this probably does more than a little damage to our government.

We have no warriors to spare, they are all fighting in our current gigantic multi-front war.

The majority of our forces are the massive levies you're talking about, and trying to punish the people we just handed a shit ton of weapons and the training needed to use them, while we are at war, is a terrible idea.

The levies haven't moved yet, see green line; only our MC and Holy Order moved to the east to combat Fourch nation.

This was about the extent of the good news in the west, as the initial levy call had resulted in more than a few troubles as there was a scramble among those who didn't want to go to find some way to be declared essential, and among the leadership over what exactly was 'essential'. There was confusion and more than one riot over what exactly was going on, and any hope of an early scramble of the levies to the east was dashed.

Traders aren't mad at us anymore!

Does this mean their next quest isn't a spite quest now?

Either way, I'd like to point out that the Yeomen faction bonus gives us increased Martial. I think the shear degree we've already passed our maximum by means that's not much of a concern, while the Patricians directly aiding the war effort is narratively very useful if we don't want our government to collapse after this.

You know, I am terrfied impressed by the possibilities before us:

We may have a genius martial, which as far as I am aware of have higher agency than usual leaders.
This genius has possibly the highest number of men fielded in history so far. A not-really-tested type of troops, too (well, untested in this number).
...
What will they do with all this? How many innovations could they think up on the spot, how ridiculous would their tactics get?
Also, you know- what will they do with this power, once it's over? Will he be a Lucius Quinctius, coming back home once all asses are kicked, or will he be a new Ork King (remember Xohyri? that one), this time burning down more than just one capital?

Truly an EPIC AGE.

At the risk of invoking my trade mark dismissiveness- Marches are there to bleed and buy time for us. The MoS falling would be a tragedy, but if it buys enough time, that's perfectly acceptable in the long run. I want to decisively secure the Lowlands here, and if part of the steppe has to burn for that... well, I can live with it.

Riots are a combination of two factors. Stability and legitimacy. We are currently at - 1 Stability and 3 Legitimacy. Restoration of order would bring us to between -1 and 1 stability, and 2 legitimacy (net -1, net 0, or net 1). Whereas proclaim glory would bring us to 0 stability and 4 legitimacy (net 2). Proclaim glory is strictly superior, especially since we are hilariously over our martial limit and are probably going to take a gilded age hit at the start of the next turn.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the best Hero vote seems pretty obviously based on the Target vote to me.

[] [Hero] Both the War Chief and the Governor of MoS are Heroic Martial
Best Taken with:
[] [Target] Split focus between the Forhuch and the nomads
This allows us to have a heroic martial in both of our war fronts, and the MoS Governor can leave to support any battles happening with the Heaven's Hawk.

[] [Hero] The governor is competent enough, but War Chief is the ideal general (Heroic Martial and Diplo leader)
[] [Target] Split focus between the Forhuch and Highlanders, hold against the nomads
This gives us the ability to better work with the Swamp Folk due to better Diplo, while simply trying to hold the line against the nomads.

[] [Hero] The War Chief is an Avatar of War (Genius Martial, at least semi-stable Diplo and Admin)
[] [Target] Focus everything on the Forhuch, hold the line against the nomads
Genius martial combined with a smash one target at a time approach for maximum possible success with each battle.

Now, you know what they they. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Last Epic Age, we went for Genius Martial and it worked out very well, so that's what I'm inclined towards. More importantly though, we just need our hero vote to synergize with our target vote.

Vote for now, though I'm less certain on the Trader and React:

[X] [Hero] The War Chief is an Avatar of War (Genius Martial, at least semi-stable Diplo and Admin)
[X] [Target] Focus everything on the Forhuch, hold the line against the nomads

[X] [Traders] Support Faction for a new faction quest (Patricians will not switch support immediately)

Sounds excellent from the mechanical point of view, but i wonder what the narrative cost will be? I imagine saying the king and government is great and awesome when the people is confused and starting riots doesn't line up in someway.

Either of them deciding they want their family to keep the Throne in perpetuity after this probably does more than a little damage to our government.

On the other hand that's sort of an argument for selecting the Avatar of War-he won't have Heroic Diplo so he can't talk his way through, and our bureacracy can route around him without Heroic Admin, allowing the patricians to minimize the damage he does to their ability to retain power and once he's gone assassinate any troublesome heirs. Our system of government ruthlessly selects for competence, meaning that if his heirs are incompetent they will at best be reduced to normal patricians.

Voting for the Avatar of War to either finally get a Saint of War or get our own Ymaryn Sun Tzu and have him/her write the Book of War.
