Getting out is a good idea- we want to make sure we don't get overwhelmed by the newly-OP Iron+Cavalry nomads, and we'll want at least 2 full-strength merc companies at a very minimum for that considering our base martial needs to be kept pitifully low. This will also put the pressure on the Freehills to actually take that peace offering.

Ironworks is incredibly OP and dearly needed, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the Prototype Weapons Storage will help with the Centralization problem (and I really want more annexes). So approval voting both of them.

[X] [HS] Continue raising troops (Main Raise Army, Reforms advance)

As I said, if it does not look possible after one turn, we bail out.

Continue Raising Troops. We need to raise Centralization and Lower Martial. This takes care of one.

Oh snap. Centralization, Legitimacy and Hierarchy have become godlike traits to keep high.
Our martial is already low enough, we just have to raise cent some more to complete the crisis.

Do we want to do the ironworks now and pretty much increase the guilds' power, or do it with our guild action during the main turn and increase our centralization through arsenal and storage?

@Academia Nut do Freehills have a strong enough military to pressure the Trelli without our mercenary companies?

It seems like it would be harder to force a peace if one side is clearly stronger than the other.

I've been away from the quest for a while and was wondering why Trelli and Khem are crossed out as rivals in the trading page? did some thing happen to them?

AN: Mechanical warning. Now that you have factions over 5 Strength, they will all begin 'maturing', manifesting unique mechanical powers with their own pros and cons. Factions over strength 3 also have the option to expend some of their influence to hijack actions if they want to force through an agenda. 1 Strength hijacks a Secondary action, and 3 Strength a Main or 2 Secondaries. Declaring War with a valid CB adds a +3 surcharge, although during war if they think the king is showing insufficient commitment the surcharge is reduced to only +1 Strength. Factions can never force a war without a valid CB. The Guild faction can hijack Main Guild actions at only 2 strength, while other factions are at a +1 Surcharge for those actions, either hijacking them or opposing a hijacking by the Guild. Factions can also negate a hijacking by expending their own strength, although they will often expect something from the king after doing such a thing, even if that is just recognition.
Wait a sec.

Just to be clear: does Hijacking happen BEFORE we make our choices (i.e. locking an action), or AFTER (i.e. overwriting it)? Because the former makes planning basically anything impossible...

So, it seems like taking Trelli wouldn't have just been walking in there and getting it for free, and in fact without Freehills the Red Banner company would have gotten demolished.

Even with the help from Freehills, who seem to have a massed Spears doctrine, taking Trelli itself would be super bloody because they are still organized enough to form a defense and still have local sources of food.

Makes me really glad we didn't try to go to war with them ourselves.

If we attacked trelli, we would have attacked their city from the beginning through ships or at least beseiged them on both side, We were not going to fight a land war to reach the city.

I say we bow out. While they may have a heroic martial king, they are still trying to attack the Trelli Strait. Best to ensure that no one is happy and pull out our troops. Especially since
Red Banner Company (Mercenary Company) - Can be hired to other kingdoms for wealth, or maintained to boost Martial capacity (L: 5/5, E: 4/10)
Red Banner has been tired out a bit.

?

Where does it say they raise centralization?

Trelli is halfway dead. They ran of the monies:V

If the mercs are still led by Freehills apparent martial hero but he knows he can't use them on the Khemetri, he's that much more likely to use them up against the Trelli. Meanwhile we will probably need them to kill that damned pirate king.

Ironworks is incredibly tempting but establishing state control over weapons is absolutely essential before we kick production into overdrive. We can still take it as a guild action next turn in all likelihood.

Why is it always the Red Banner mercenary company that gets damaged? They were the ones to nearly be annihilated during the Kings Do Not Kneel fiasco. They were the ones that were cut off, nearly trapped in Greenshore and destroyed during the Trelli war. Now they're the Banner Company that got reduced to half strength after fighting the Trelli. Does Crow hate them?

Trelli went bankrupt and spawned pirates and loose merc bands which completely disrupted trade between us, Trelli, and KH. FreeHill also started warring with Trelli.

Wait a sec.

I think it's after we voted our choice since Hijack means that we can't plan around it, which would explain why other factions can counter hijack attempts but expects appreciation.

We need the stab, and we're starting to run out of cent to spam Enforce Justice with. Plus, this is the best option for all of your moralizers out there, as it prevents the sack of the city and makes everyone focus on killing the pirates.
For you monetarily minded people, it gives us the chance at a Free Strait, which is part of what everyone was trying to get it for.

All of these seem good, but I don't want to have to rely on the Patricians to bankroll our new armies, since it would give specific Patricians personal control over whether they get fed or not. Also think it's a bad idea to do more cash crops at the moment, especially since the Guilds will likely hijack an action to get more wealth.

Depending on if Freehills can pressure Trelli on their own I'll want to head out, but if they can't I want to keep the mercs there to encourage a peace.

There goes our extra Econ...

Mercenary disengagement means that the Freehill are discouraged from engaging in more stupid wars.

FOLKS. Be careful on choices regarding the reform, because we'll need the econ next turn.

I say ensure that we have strict control over the weaponry first. We can worry about how to efficiently do so after the fact(Prototype Deployment Organization)
