Well why would we loose them?

It's not like we're suddenly going to do a mass clear out seeing as our policy seems to be to burry books we no longer use?
Translation projects result in immense loss of knowledge without investing in a massive expansion in scribes familiar with both the old form and the new form to rescribe every book in every library.
The older texts will suffer greater linguistic drift and oversight more often, which means, with parchment documents, we're going to lose a lot of them for good.

Copying books is expensive, so if we make the change at this point we'd best be ready to commit a megaproject to it, and strongly not advised unless we're also converting to paper.

Well if we're converting to paper we need more scribes anyway, cause whooo nelly we're gonna bury them archaeologists in paper.

I know, my presence really seals the deal I think.

I noticed.

May I just say that the Bunny Rabbits seem particularly vicious....
And now we know where the Rabbit of Caerbannog came from...

TAXES shall attempt to rule the earth and valiant Clerks will always fight it wherever it appears.

If anyone cares, here are some documentaries about ancient warfare.

Ancient China is bullshit:

And more immediately relevant to us:

Egyptian Chariot Warfare

This one is several parts, but it shows that armor works really well and a few other interesting parts. Can really recommend it.

Actually that is a decent idea for a mega project, seeing how most parts of the people will have different dialects, a mega project to make a single dialect and writing system might cause greater centralisation.

Hell in England this didn't happen until the Norman Kings finally started using the London dialect of English to make official communique.

First comes TAXES, dread robber

Dread Armies on the March
Third comes The Forest Curse
To Burn and Starve the taker

So it is written and so it shall Be.

I don't see a good reason to change our writing system given that we could lose so much history by doing so.
I see a clear and present reason to switch to a phoenetic system; ease of cultural assimilation. Right now, with our language halfway between pictographic and phonetic, we retain all the disadvantages of both systems with only some of the advantages of both systems.

Our language is still likely a bitch and a half to learn, taking most of your life from when you start as a kid (though hopefully it isn't at Chinese levels of five thousand characters to read the newspaper), causing rampant problems with refugee exploitation and lawbreaking, because the refugees don't understand the language the rules are written in. Ditto for other civilizations trying to figure out what the hell our Law system even means, let alone the subtle nuances that ensure that half exiles aren't treated as a permanent slave caste.

Moreover, our language is actively sabotaging our efforts to spread our values and religion, because transcription of our values and religion requires knowing the intricacies of figuring out which of the fifteen or so characters should be written from this sound, which will reduce the amount of foreigners willing to take our language, values, and religion home to those willing to learn our language, at which point they probably won't go home!

Anyway, sorry for being a little rude about this.

The flock, the party of tradition and propriety.

Motto : Baaaaaa Baa Baaaa

Party manifesto :

The current war:
The party aims to see the people victorious in the conflict. The concessions the party seeks are the handing over of khemtri anatolia as either a tributary or vassal state. As well as adequate recompense for expenses incurred.

Economy: The party believes firmly in private enterprise and economic dominance. And we appreciate the vital importance that luxury goods have. As such the party would spend considerable effort and give Patronage to the dye and wine markets as well as survey the land so that enterprising individuals may partake of the bounty of the earth. Needless to say, the distribution of land for maximising production, cutting expenses and giving liberty for our farmers and overseers to innovate; is a crucial stratagem of the Flock. The increase of average income will also allow more people to better thier lives, and to give to the less fortunate or the priesthood to better than lives of thier fellow man, or to invest thier newfound wealth into more economic or social ventures, brining wealth, harmony and culture to the people as a whole.

Education: The party firmly believes in the accessibility of education. Such an important privilege is worthless if no one has acsess to it. As such the party plans a major expansion of temples. Not only would that greatly please the gods and give priests thier duo reverence. But it would allow a greater portion of our public to acsess the wisdom of the clergy.

Health and social care: The party's stance on this is the same as its stance on education. The clergy is after all the sole expert in the field of healthcare. And giving it more freedom is not only pleasing to the gods, but it would also allow them to better follow thier mandate and care for the people.

Government : The lesser the central state, the better than nation. This is a core belief of the Flock. For we believe in supremacy of the individual over his own fate. And as such the state should never impose itself on matters where the individual or a lesser adminstrive structure is sufficient. As such we belive in giving near absolute autonomy down to the smallest segment of our society. Let the village run itself, and let each city neighbourhood have controll of its affairs. This way the liberty of the people, a well as the flourishing of thier culture and economies is assured.

Foreign affairs and defence : The Flock firmly believes that the world is given to man to conquer. And the Ymaryn are the gods favourite, and none shall bar us from our manifest destiny. As such we reject reject any diplomacy that does not have the intention of turning the other side into our sphere of influence. An advanced infrastructure and an independent enterprising populace is the cornerstone of our vision. However we also reject blind wars of conquest. A steady well thought out direct expansion in conjunction with diplomatic expansion is the Flock modis operandi. As such, a strong standing army is vital, while defences are redundant, for we have only have temporary borders.

This must be the pinnacle of your civilization. =3=
