Well we know from the Holy Site descriptions that Hatriver has a sparkling cave which may be quartz based. Means a survey down there is likely to find a cave system or mine we can use for it, though it may be turned into a holy site instead.

Mica probably
I was thinking we have a main fleet that is all slow but carry the heavy weapons and is very big. The catamarans would be our scouts. I suppose we could try your way instead.

I have that listed as Team Boat in my waterwheel technology list. It is something that the Byzantine had thought or conceptualize, so it isn't out of reach for us.
Heavy weapons fleet doesn't work until cannon by the way. The amount of threat that archer banks can present is pretty limited beyond actually having one, and ballistas don't do nearly enough damage to offer that kind of threat.

So, you think that now, while RA is not yellow, would be a good time for one?

Note that they also support libraries. And probably strengthen our position when dealing with subordinates. And surely it wouldn't take much more RA to get pilgrimage dominance back.
As per prior discussion I have the site tentatively set as Northshore, in White Circle. It's supposed to be right between the cliffs of Redshore and the beaches of Northshore.
I dunno, I think AN indicated that our forest wonder pulse locked people out.
The Greater Sacred Forest yes, the basic no. Greater Sacred Forest had "if you want to do this you just go ask the Ymaryn instead".

True. But if we make one in SF and it burns down we're left with 1 library (or did we already build the non palace one in VH? I kind of recall doing so...)

Anyways we should do one in SF and another in Dragon Graveyard. More libraries = more books. Always good. (Unless the nomads raid the dragon graveyard and learn our secrets)
Looting libraries for knowledge can happen, though for nomads it's a tossup between burning it all or forcing the locals to read them the secret wisdom.

Currently for knowledge security, the order should go to building a library in Sacred Forest, which would leave both Valleyhome(Palace + City) and Sacred Forest(Temple + City) with enough knowledge to restart the process.

Dragon Graveyard is a terrible backup since it's right in the line of fire, but Skyforest and White Circle should be good safe spots.

While we're still sort of talking about them, wouldn't catamarans make disproportionately good platforms for siege weapons given their large amounts of deck space and stability?
That's one of the reasons for them yes.

IIRC, the problem with catamarans is that they're more sensitive to loads, but we may not give a damn if a particular catamaran is slow.

Also another consideration is less volume, so you can't store as much stuff to keep the ship supplied.
Supplies isn't the problem. They're fast enough that I'd actually prefer a Catamaran for long distance exploration, since they use less supplies per distance covered.

It's cargo for trade goods that it sucks for.

Seeing as Polynesian outrigger canoes and catamarans were some of the first ships to truly navigate the open ocean over extreme distance, I'll put my money there.

@Academia Nut quick question, would we get some idea of how much wood we'd need free for the Grand Docks before we start the project, or do we need to actually initiate it to know roughly how many expand forest actions we need for it?

Mini-joke:

*Spots longships off shore*
British monks: VIKKKIIING! EEEEEEEEEEKKKK!
*Church bell rings*
Ymaryn: Trade? We are the red banner people.

...The Roman navy didn't have ballistae as standard issue because they thought they were pretty. Like, a ballista might not be able to sink a ship, but it has considerably greater range than a bow and is perfectly capable of ripping up sails or killing rowers- the latter being important to actually allow a boarding action.

And yeah, a stone propelled by a ballista can absolutely penetrate a hull to hit rowers, it's just that without explosives poking holes in a hull is a fairly lousy way to sink a large boat.
