Seems to me like east post+boats plus mercs next turn would be as good preparation as any?

Before they get the ball rolling? They're way past that! They've subjugated or enslaved all their neighbors and sold the proceeds! They have mercenary armies running around everywhere! They're already rolling. And they can send all of them at us in one turn if we do something to make them panic, like threatening the tin that keeps their mercs equipped.

I think it's almost exactly like the Lowlanders. We can sit on the east side of the sea, and we really won't be worth their time and effort considering how dangerous we can be on our own turf. We survived just fine before we discovered the Trelli and we don't need them now. We have other trade partners, and megaprojects, and expansion options.
Right now we have a chance to stop them, one that doesn't have guaranteed war involved. I'm taking it, and I'm sticking to it.

I'm going to smother Rome in the Crib

You know, since the East Trade post is losing, I suggest all of those who voted for it switch over to the North trade post so we can actually beat the East Trade post vote. Don't be a spoiler.
I personally will not vote for the North Trading Post. I think that it exposes us to major risk for far less gain than the West trading post, so that option is not acceptable to me.

[X] [Exp] Found Trelli Trade Post, East
[X] [Exp] Found Mercenary Company

Last I checked we don't take the families of our soldiers hostage and basically hold a knife to their throat to ensure loyalty in the field....
No, but we haven't checked on our Half-exiles in a while, and in the last war we were noted as bringing home many 'wives' and 'refugees'... Not that we had much of a choice in how it all went down.

This is probably why AN expected us to take Trelli in a century or two. He knew that the hivemind of the Ymaryn is going to do something about it, because one of our Stated Goal is to stop slavery.

Just wow! You really have tried your absolute hardest to make a civ as dickish as the Xoh haven't you?
Well, remember how we dealt with the Xoh. Early war didn't work, but eventually we out-teched them, and then when they were weakened, we ended them.

And bear in mind that although the Trelli might be annoyed by our refusal to buy slaves, they would still put us in the category of "valued for trade goods", not "useless, enslave them for lack of anything else to sell." If we let them be, they are likely to avoid large scale war with us.

But in a few turns, after our trading post lets us found another mercenary company safely, and we finish our megaprojects, we could aim to break their grip.

They are still fed well, not beaten and hurt like slaves, their children are freemen and that abuse is only in some provinces, also please note we didn't ask for Phygrif to do what he did, we cannot be blamed for it.

Meanwhile the Trelli are basically enacting a Holocaust on their neighbors and holding their soldiers families hostage whilst also turning to piracy.

They've basically become even larger dicks than before

You can vote for both iirc.

A) Again, how will the RB be useful against pirates?
B) I don't think they will die as long as we support the TP sometimes.
C) Damaging in any sense beyond the loss of RB?

@Lilithium except cats, arguably. Two cats can be cute or they can fight and be pouty.
What living with many cats around, and owning cats, and watching Jackson Galaxy's show has taught me; it's never the cat that's from hell. It's the family/house. Same with doges.

And now I must pet my cat.

That's why i said subtle. Our company's family enjoys higher quality of life in our realm and the company looks forward to returning home.

Their merc's families also enjoy higher quality of life when compared to their less developed settlements, which is enticing to both figher and family; and an understanding of good job and obedience leads to reward.

No man's an Island and all that.

So you were comparing having your family held at knifepoint to having a better paid job and better life for your family....

Seriously? What is with people and trying to vilify our civilisation?

The update literally said they were saying to themselves 'why trade for stuff when you can just take it!'. Your strategy is not going to fly for that amount of time

Mate that's a bit melodramatic, and that's coming from me.

The Treli are doing standard era stuff, and are rather smart, competent and surprisingly gentle when compared to real life history.
As I said before, the Ymaryn are the freaks, we are the ones who deviate from the standard morality and norms, and thus we are the monster.

You're not already?

My family used to own four.
One of them was really cuddly all of the time.
One of them would come to you only when you're trying to sleep, purr, and then start biting you if you pet her but then wiggle anxiously until you resumed.
One ran and hid whenever anyone saw her, but if you literally caught her or figuratively caught her in a good mood and pet her she'd turn into a puddle and refuse to leave.
My personal cat would go out and fight nearby pets, refuse to let anyone pick her up, and yet then come home when I was going to bed and let me pet her for ~30 minutes.

What's your cat like?

They were saying nothing of that sort. There are anonymous rumors going around that that is their intention, and those rumors are plausible, but they are nevertheless rumors. And despite what RPGs teach us, less than 100% of rumors are true.

I did note them Phy gave us no choice tho =c

And while that was the case a bunch of hundred of years ago, the half-exile situation is bound to have changed since. But yeah, the Trelli have become huge assholes, actual genuine the bad guys that RPGs make as clear targets. It's like the gods of the Xoh have taken hold of them!

oh shit

:o:o
o_O
Fire warning = very burny. You gonna be okay?

Jesus. We need more aqueducts! Kamloops has turned into a flame warning!

Thankfully yes, I live in Greater Vancouver area which is far from the fire.

And West Jet have refunded our tickets. It's always like this when the summer is nice.
Rain year-round or FIRE!

At least the winter is less bi-polar, just between "snow crippled our transit!" and "where is the snow?"

Enough rumours from the city itself that the king has been informed and has been worried enough by these rumours that he is considering putting a provocative Trade Post up.....

Yeah these are more than just simple rumours.
