Pretty weird accelerants to make a lab look struck by lightning several times.
I was pointing out that gunpowder in its earliest incarnations just burns really quickly. And it's not like lightning has any guaranteed correlation to explosive force.

If people want the Mystic option to play safe, that's fine, if people want the Mystic option in the hopes of minor improvements in things like making charcoal/wood tar/pitch, cool. If people want it because 'muh gunpowder' and other absurdities, I'm going to call it moronic regardless of whether or not that get's people declaring me a condescending asshole beating up strawmen.

That's what bugs me, there's useful things that could come from Alchemy, but people don't give a shit over useless buzzwords! Pitch for boats, lighting and roofing! Tar for caulking and waterproof wooden containers! I mean, even fucking Asphalt can have explosive vapors that fit the bill when heated too much. So yea, I'm going to decry the rampant sensationalism and point out the other rational alternatives that would be more useful at this time because that's my prerogative. What an elitist asshole I am.

I'd like the mystic option because I really like the generalized study action boost from a Heroic Mystic. I'm hoping to push for Policy: Progress during Rulwyna's lifetime.

we did support him, i thought? He went into the north, and, iirc, its hinted that he founded the Thunder Horse
If i remember right, we gave him Gwygoytha's blessing, but not any actual support, and while i think that him founding the Thunder Horse is feasible (i think there was a bit about "descended from a demon", yeah?), the Thunder Horse (or maybe it was their precursors, random nomadic group?) version of history was also that they invented the war cart and we stole the idea from them, instead of the other way around like in reality, so i take it with a grain of salt :p

Could somebody actually post what a lightining impact on rock and on wood looks like?
From what I can work out the marks we're looking at are probably lichtenberg figures, and if this is the case it tells us that it probably wasn't an explosion that happened.
Lichtenberg figure - Wikipedia

Assuming it isn't actually lightning she was working with then my best guess is that it was a viscous burning liquid and the fractal pattern are where it flowed over her skin.

Diplomacy 4
Economy 14 [-1+4]
Econ Expansion 11 [+1-4]
Martial 9 {14}
Wealth 12 [+3]

I'm worried about red martial here too....
Come on let's do wars so we're not at red martial at 0 stab... Think about the stats too
Martial from econ can probably be rendered mostly safe by doing something labour intensive.

@Academia Nut
If we "Found Trading Post - Near Trelli", will we be increasing our trading power and thus reduce the risk of losing Dye dominance, or increase their ability to trade with us and thus get closer to losing dominance?

Google it, Silver. 'Lightning strike rock' gets you like 4 pictures right away. Trees hit by lightning can explode from sap turning to steam or something like that; I dunno if wood does the same.
That annoys me a little, I was assuming strike would get me images of the bolt so I was going through synonyms for impact.
Alright on inspection, these aren't all that useful.
I feel that we can discard the possibility they are talking about a Fulgurite because I don't think anyone could survive something obviously comparable to a mass of sand used into a single rock.
These two are potentially useful

This would be more useful if I could find a description or it was larger.

Good example of a Lichtenberg figure if this is what the people are expecting.
The one I like the most is this.

It shows reasonably what we can expect the People to recognise as a surface burn on rock, an intense ring of damage around a crack. The Lictenberg figure will be propagating into the rock away from the surface (assuming its not overturned in which case its been eroded).

As far as wood goes I'm even less happy, I feel most of the images where man made inorder to demonstrate the pattern, unsurvivable or the wounds were just too old to really get an expectation of what it would look like fresh.

As for people burns. lightning scars - Google Search
Non of those really look like explosions.

*looks at tally*

The shiny is strong, as expected.

So, that's effectively locked, hopefully it will work out and we'll get something nice from it. Sending problem people into the mystical caste has been something of a tradition for our people anyways.

A few things for next turn that will likely be overlooked due to a new shiny of some sort.
  • We're going to either have to increase the war against the Hath or start increasing our relations with the Highlanders. Possibly both, it's quite important that we secure this area with either force or relations.
  • The Nomads up north can be made friendly and allow us to establish a much more secure trade route to the north.
  • Establishing another trade post should let us increase the power of our now free and relatively normal Saltern to bring us back up to an additional +1 Wealth. To do this we should likely increase boat power to help secure a new outpost. Both North and Trelli outposts need better boats, though of different kinds.
  • Palace is likely needed soonish.
That is my opinion on what needs to be done. I won't bother commenting on the current vote considering how locked in it is. We're also going to have a pretty heavy reworking of our actions next turn, possibly several new ones. Sadly, it seems we don't have any midturn actions this time. We really need them.

Phew, finally got a chance to catch back up. Why not do some analysis/speculation on a vote that's pretty much decided?

[] Forge a new path of war
This turns mini hero into a horse riding warrior on the front lines. I feel like with a combination of BotB and teenage girl horse couriers, this will probably lead us to develop some sort of elite cavalry unit that's exclusively female due to the current evolutionary limits of our horses. Great for gender equality, great for martial, great for protection from corruption assassinating our hero.

[] Begin diplomacy with the Highlanders
Gives us a chance to steal the Highlander's junior hero's skills with our junior hero. Also probably drags us into Highlander politics, and Highlanders into our politics. I don't like this option simply because getting sucked into a third potential war front sounds like a recipe for disaster right now.

[] Run away to the north
Remember how Gwy's kid was most likely responsible for the Thunder Horse? This is the option if we want to do that again. Also means the development of horse riding in the Steepes originates from us.

[] Attempt to finish her mother's work
Mini hero goes scientist. I consider this to be the most high risk option, because we don't even know what exactly Lolwyna was studying when she blew herself up. Potential science innovation, which is always nice, but it might not even be something we could use right now considering Lol had low diplomacy and was a bit on the esoteric side. Also, potentially scars mini hero for life if she gets caught in the same kind of explosion as mom. Also, this option leaves mini hero most open to assassination, because she isn't learning frontline combat skills, and I'm assuming this research would be taking place in the capital. I feel like she's smart enough to keep around a guard or two, but it's still something to keep in mind.

That being said, I want warrior ladies on horses. They're probably going to be speed focused, and I really want to see what they'd kill people with.
