Oh, I think Murphy would approve. If there's an emergency next turn, our choices will likely be decided for us, so that's simple. But if there's not, we risk being divided and distracted by the many excellent choices on offer. At worst, we may get another shiny that will make everyone forget long-term plans. I'm anticipating that and discussing now, while we're not so distracted.

There's a reason why we stayed on balance. It helps us pursue all the shinnies.

The eastern nomads got their ass owned by the Northerners. So, not necessarily all that useful.
Well, personally I'd rather build the March, but coordinate it with them in some way, since they're living in that area. But the salt gift does make sense if we want them to be allies and not yet another threat.

Plus, apparently they killed the hostile Hero. It's gratitude.

I'm probably gonna vote main salt gift for the nomads and main new settlement in the north-eastern Redhills. We need to get more territory under our control so that we can raise our pop cap and thus be better prepared for the future.

no, AN said that there are still nomad friends, who have formed a new coalition under a survivor from the old friendlies and "Forgotten who the 'Salt people' are"
I say we remind them.

we might not be able to if we're still at war next turn

So, with this vote seemingly settled, we should probably make plans for next turn in light of the latest information, but before AN throws us another shiny ;)

I figure we probably have a breather. Hath fight will likely continue as is, but with no current nomad threat (yay for peaceful contact with old friends!), we have a chance to properly reinforce the north. And we have to burn Econ and Martial. So... maybe this is a chance to really get benefits from Defensive policy? And being at war, that should be a free switch.

We could also either build the NE March - perhaps integrating the nomads in some way? - or partially integrate West Wall while it isn't threatened. March might be better, because the integration boosts Econ and Martial, which are too high ATM. And another March = more actions!

I expect we'll need the remaining action for a main war against the Hath. Whether that's enough will depend on whether we can indeed build better walls, whether we still have a hero King, and what the HK manage to do to the Hath before then. We have lots of Martial, though, so main war should be pretty effective regardless.

What other thoughts do people have?
Kinda poopy we will probably have to deal with the stupid Hathy. <- Chibi!YmarynVampire voice.

I wanted that main to start Grand Palace or the Dam since there are no Nomads...

As to mains that make sense, integrating the West Wall kinda makes sense since it is still moderately secure being partially shielded by the Stallions and the rest of West Wall, but the Econ and Econ Expansion it generates might be a problem.

If we are at 7 Expansion in the main turn we have to gamble that it won't give us 8+ Expansion, which admittedly sounds a little ridiculous.

Another good action is a Salt Gift to the NomadBuddies which I am certain will cost Wealth instead of Diplo now. Plonk that in their direction and get a pseudo March with a longer intel reach who can warn us early if shit is about to hit the fan. It also keeps our Martial high-ish so we can properly fight the Hats.

I'm kind of baffled about why people are voting for more Alchemy. The same Alchemy, in fact, that killed our last Hero.

Is it that you're more worried about foreign entanglements (allying with the HK against Persia) or winning the war too good and eating a chunk of Hath than you are Rulwyna possibly killing herself? Or worried that the other options will lead to stability drops?

Or are you worried about heredity and don't want to have the daughter of a King be King? (Bit late on that one, we've had that before when the kids weren't even properly Heroes).

Is it that you're convinced explosions (whatever they may be, gunpowder or dust explosions or just heating some kind of flammable liquid in a kiln or blast furnace) are worth the cost?
@Karugus here's an argument for voting for the Mysticism path that might appeal to you, and it's also why I voted for it.

  1. The "diplomacy" options are absolute shit that either involve the Highlanders in our internal politics, which is a no-no, or get rid of her but gives the nomads horse riding which is terrible.
  2. I didn't want to reinforce the elite warrior mentality and further advance the warrior elites in Ymaryn society. I assume our continued goal is to be generally more peaceful than our neighbors.
  3. The mysticism option gets her out of both of these options and likely produces some benefit. I don't really care what.
Edit: blasted phone keyboard

The recent weather mentions have been pulling me towards Dam thirst.

Also, Lol-chan was noted as a live fast die hard type of science gal. By our overlord Nut himself too. And that was before we finalized Alchemy as our main, so she would have probably died this turn irregardless of Alchemy.

I just want more Megaprojects, is that so wrong?

... Think warhorse breeding could count as one of those? I mean, ritualistic molestation of cows did, so it isn't unthinkable.

If she gets Heroic Mysticism, it's Stonehenge time!
Because with Calendar our farming and record keeping will be quite improved.

Alternatively, Spirits policy to build some temples.

I would prefer we start building stability back up, as the provinces seems to be fairly competent with all the other stuff.

If we stopped doing a thing because it killed one person this would be a vastly different quest and world.
I'm trying to think of an equivalent situation and coming up blank. Heroes are special existences and don't tend to fail often... A-ha! Got one.

Okay, this would be like when we lost Gwygotha's kid to the nomads, and instead of calling that a lesson learned we proceeded to institute a policy of throwing all our future heroes into the steppes with a couple of boon companions one by one until something was accomplished.

I'm not saying it would never work, but Heroes aren't the kind of coin you spend that way.

We didn't get the option to do that and I'm sure that someone would have voted for it if we had.

oooooooooh wait hold up

We do have that option right now for Rully to go off to the nomads! It's an actual second coming! I knew this vote felt familiar.
