Which is actually fairly reflective of the modern world- compulsory heterosexuality and heteronormativity mean a fair amount of gay people never realize they aren't straight. Which results in lower visibility for gay people, and thus marginalization.
Since the ymaryn don't have to hide, and have a fairly understanding for the time outlook on things, the percentage of gay folk *seems* higher because there are fewer people in the closet about it.
