A note on trails: People seem to be thinking that it will bring the Stallions into line by centralizing them. Just don't forget, it lets them affect our culture as much as it lets us affect them.

I rather integrate them and deal with the social problem rather than letting theme secede. Right now, they also have a stranglehold on our Northern provinces.

  • Wagonway - A system of prepared trackway that allows greater haulage by reducing rolling friction. This is the precursor to railway and railroad transportation. First seen used circa 600 BC with the construction of the Diolkos in ancient Greece by the city-state Corinth, for the purpose of transporting ships overland. The wagonway is also used by the romans to transport goods in mines.
Much of railway development was done in mines. The uneven surfaces make it quite difficult to roll a cart, so some form of rails for a wagon to ride on is natural. It's not too far from that to actual railways.

Kiba's Technology Wishlist

Almost all these inventions can all be plausibly invented all the way up to the Iron age and had been invented by ancient civilizations.

Transport:
  • Wagonway - A system of prepared trackway that allows greater haulage by reducing rolling friction. This is the precursor to railway and railroad transportation. First seen used circa 600 BC with the construction of the Diolkos in ancient Greece by the city-state Corinth, for the purpose of transporting ships overland. The wagonway is also used by the romans to transport goods in mines.
  • Cableway - Uses cable for transport. Great for hilly and mountainous terrain. First known instance of cable transport is in ancient China, circa 250 BC.
Communication:
  • Watchtowers - A ubiquitous network of towers would form the foundation for rest-stations and relay system for messengers.
  • Roads - The trails are not yet upgraded to Roman quality roads, yet it can be done with only stone tools. Now we have better tools. Hopefully, there will be an upgrade soon.
  • Homing Pigeon - Can deliver a message one-way over vast distance and speed. However, they cannot carry much and would only go to where their home is. Likely invented by the Persians and spread to the Romans and Greeks. This is complementary to the road system and watchtowers.
  • Talking drums - Used drums for the basis of language, making it possible for drummers to communicate two way across distances. Sound travel very fast, much faster than pigeons.
Power:
  • Monjolo - A very simple triphammer device that used running water to perform mechanical power. This means that animals do not have to be used at all. Synergize with aqueducts, which bring running waters to locations where it is needed, including cities and industries.
  • Waterwheel - Self explanatory. This invention made its appearance amongst the Greeks between Third and First century BC. Synergize with other concepts, such as the cableway and wagonway, providing power to pull the ropes.
Oh man if we get all these we will be so bullshit

*Cough*Sombra*Cough*Starlight Glimmer*Cough*Sunset Shimmer*Cough*Shining Armor*Cough*

I mean, if Celestia and Twilight had an earth pony or pegasus student...

Oh yes, do go on about the unicorn who needed to delve into black magic that ate his brain and mutated his horn

The unicorn who had a single spell to her creation and held off Twilight for a bit by modifying a preexisting spell using the elements as a battery.

The other student taught by an alicorn alive for millenia. Right

The unicorn who's special talent is shields makes a big shield. Whoop de doo

*yawn*

By all means, continue trying to use extremes to justify generalization such as unicorn supremacy in a kids show about friendship. I am sure we are all very excited.

Was there ever any doubt?

How about:

Beekeeping
Metal casting
Plumbing
Loom/weaving (I dunno what type we have, but there's sure to be an upgrade possible)
Lateen sails
Outriggers
Glass
Concrete
Geometry
Cartography
Gnomon
Sundial
Lathe
Animal breeding
Turnplough?

The problem is that people seem to think that we can integrate them without compromise. It doesn't work that way.
Depends. Our core provinces massively outpopulate them, and have enough excess labor to produce significantly larger amounts of art and culture, as well as a longer continuous body of tradition to call upon for authority. Given higher connectivity, the Northern provinces are going to be affected significantly more than Southern provinces in the cultural merging, though it is unquestionable that some backflow will happen.

Heck, I consider a limited backflow to be beneficial. But the longer we wait on this the less likely it's going to be reconcilable.

So because our miners are specialists we have a greater chance of developing this compared to the case if we choose halfexiles for the job.

My technology list is stuff that I researched and learned about, some of which are out-of-the-box solutions.

If you do some research and trace the origin and history of their development, I'll be happy to integrate them into the list.

I agree. We should at some point start The Dam, however, in order to make certain our core provinces stay in the position of massively outpopulating them. We should also do the aqueduct @ Redcoast relatively soon after doing it in the north.

Agree w/ more or less all of these; we probably have some form of geometry, definitely have animal breeding, probably have handlooms, maybe have the sundial, idk if I want the turnplough... it leads to erosion. There's an alternate version that just does it shallowly, though.

Why do you want to invent gnomes? ( :p )

They're all stuff I picked from Wikipedia's entries on late chalcolithic and early bronze age a while ago. I'd do more research but I'll be away from the computer for a few more hours yet.

Maybe. It's also something that you might see used in theaters to roll in things and people.
we may also see primitive cranes coming out of theatre, if we start developing it. Gotta have a Machina for your gods to come from after all

Dwarfs are the single best fantasy race. Fite me.
Elves are the single best fantasy race. Fite me back!!!

Magic + Immortality + Ecological Focus Resulting In Animal Slave Races = pwnage.

(actually, I prefer mer-people, djinni, vampires, gods, and sentient mountains, rocks, and forests over elves but none of these are one of the standard 3.)

Well, on that note does anyone have clue one how e go about integrating them besides the obvious answers of more infrastructure?

Shortage of labor is a great way to spur technological development.

They're also solutions that's basically more or less inevitable. It isn't inevitable that we'll use wagonways or cableways for widespread transport, or that we use drums to communicate complex messages, or that we have a public education system, or that we even have black soils.

If you can find examples of innovations that we aren't likely to see in classical antiquity or the fertile crescent, that would be great.

Dwarfs all the way! Grumpy stubborn folk with a penchant for solving problems, whether engineering, geological or the ones that require hammer to the face.

Well, on that note does anyone have clue one how e go about integrating them besides the obvious answers of more infrastructure?
Festivals done by a heroic admin+diplo hero (festivals depend on those stats) should be quite helpful. But honestly, just better ability to communicate goes a long way.

TLDR of all arguing from the last 30 or so pages, actually. Of course, then people start to argue that 1 more turn of delay is totally fine.
Depends on what we're trading off after all.
Some things are time limited. Some things help in other ways. Some things open up opportunities...some things compound the problem.

Currently looking forward to see what a Heroic Administrator/Diplomat does to the New Trails considering it's an Administration/Diplomacy thing AND the Admin bonus...

Festivals would be great, provided we have something to celebrate. Otherwise, like with Proclaim Glory, it could succeed at sending the wrong message

Yep, but a lot of them are building blocks upon which we can build to get a wider variety of techs. So I figured the earlier the better.

I would like a FULL INFRASTRUCTURE turn followed by Festivals turn. Should be pretty helpful.

More like hungover folk with a penchant for solving things by hitting them. #graceless

timeline

They are good at hitting things too, indeed.
But ultimately, dwarfs are problem solvers. Leaking pipe? Clearly subpar not-dwarven work. Need the tank? Call dwarfs. Need somebody to hold the line? Same. Need gold? Dwarfs are your best bet.

Alsi, I suspect we have bookkeeping, what with our writing being created by administrators to manage stores.
