"I have a new genin team," Akane said.
...
"It was Lord Hokage's suggestion," Akane said, and the pieces began to fall into place. "I was going to be tied up with tutoring for a while anyway as part of our adoption deal, but this way the KEI get more of the support they need, and it makes our adoption deal a straightforward success for them instead of a grudging bargain."
Soooo if she's teaching 3 genin did we get 3 adoption slots? Presumably for our 3 academy kids?

Ah, I misread the tone! Sorry about that!

What would y'all like the design of the estate to modeled after, since the Uchiha Layout carries unwanted implications?

IIRC, the Nara layout is pretty cool, and Ami had the former KEI rooms on the Uchiha Estate filled with artwork that improved productivity.

We should model after the Sarutobi. Jiraiya's mentor was Sarutobi Hiruzen, the God of Shinobi. We can afford to put respect on that name.

Also, ALL THE WOOD

My estate plan (the signalling of which is "Look how tied into Leaf we are while still being modern and distinct!", for reference:

Okay! Posting my backup idea!

  • Kei/Mari/Gaku check all:
  • Design
    • Blend design elements from other clan compounds to represent the links to Leaf we have so far:
      • Uchiha, representing Hazou's ancestors.
      • Nara, representing Kei's marriage to Shikamaru.
      • Senju, representing Jiraiya's teammate (and Noburi's maybe-apprenticeship, but that's still early days).
      • Orochimaru's compound (he might feel slighted if we ref Tsunade but not him).
      • Sarutobi, representing Jiraiya's sensei.
      • Yamanaka, representing Hazou/Akane's relationship with Ino.
      • Aburame, representing our budding business relationship.
    • Architects are also encouraged to invent creative and modern design elements — we're a research clan, after all.
    • Hire Shikamaru-recommended KEI-architects from NFF.
  • Construction
    • Hazou creates quartz for highlights.
    • ES to add gold filigree to important buildings.
    • Mosaics where appropriate.
  • Details
    • Hide Koi pond for FOOM OPSEC training.
    • Bathhouses.
      • Add waterslides.
    • Great Hall suitable for larger (1000+ person) events.
      • Decorate with huge dragon skeleton carving.
      • Relief carvings of the summon clans we're contracted with.
    • Cafeteria.
    • School.
    • Clinic/Mental Health Offices
    • Connect up the aqueduct we built, and the sewers in preparation for when they're ready for deployment.
    • Gardens/Greenhouses for Phytosealing Botanical Gardens to come.
      • Flank the entrance with statues of Hashirama with unique plants flourishing from his ninjutsu, and Tobirama studying those plants and carrying research scrolls hanging over his arm.
      • Add fruit trees to supplement food supply.
    • ES relief carvings that resemble 2D/3D sealing on surfaces to hide real seals in the noise.
    • Subterranean complex.
      • Civilian evac shelters.
    • Lampposts.
      • Statues holding daybright seals?
    • Monument to the Lost [Temporarily in Another Path].
    • Statues.
      • Jiraiya colossus.
      • Other Gouketsu VIPs (incl Gaku, hehe)
      • Hazou's Uchiha ancestors pre-Kurosawa split (ask Sasuke for help).

I liked that Maddie's references a lot of different styles without being those styles, personally

Out of curiosity, are you still reading? If so, did it move more in the positive/negative direction, or did it stay the same?
Hi, sorry but I ended up stopping reading for a while and have not read too far past where I commented last. I will probably pick this quest up again soon, I just got pretty bored with the direction that it took. Nothing against the writing or where the original questors want the plot to go it just stopped interesting me. I enjoyed the open world and how the characters were developing there, the whole village arc really isn't interesting to me personally. Hope this answers your question.

I link-walked back into the archives and came across an interesting thread that got dropped: a while back, y'all created the Light Relay seal with the intention of using it to set up long-distance communication. Not that you have time for it right now what with the Conclave coming up, but it was an interesting idea that I figured I'd remind you of.

This sounds very good. I have a few thoughts. Is there an upper bound on the amount of light emitted? If we invent Hazo's Illuminator: Monstrously Bright, Ohsagewhy and put it up to an LR, would it then emit light of the same blinding quality? (NB: 'yes, there is some upper bound - we'll...

After further thought, this is fantastic for third parties to verify a spy as being one of ours. They have a HOWS set to some color they don't know, they can be a civilian even, and present it to a ninja with the corresponding relay seal - the ninja need not be informed in advance what color...

As I understand it, we stalled out there because our first experiment 'crank HOWS beyond red' failed horribly when Hazou concluded it was a sealing failure instead of an interesting unknown phenomenon. In all likelihood he would outright refuse to replicate the experiment, blocking us from giving him the idea that light exists beyond red.

But I did come up with another plausible route that circumvents this, a while ago! It goes something like this:
  • We first ensure Hazou has the intuition that light is linear, which we can do by looking at rainbows and earthshaping a prism.
  • Hazou looks through his telescope and idly wonders if it'd be possible to shift the colours forwards/backwards along the spectrum.
  • Hazou creates a seal that does exactly that, shifting the wavelength of nearby light.
  • When using this seal, Hazou notices that red/purple light still exist even when colours are shifted, just coming from different places than normal.
  • With luck, Hazou then gains the intuition that light extends past red and purple, and we can revisit the HOWS experiment to replicate it, and then we can double-confirm it with infrared HOWS pointed at a Light Relay seal, and then climb that hill all the way up to radio wavelengths for long-distance communication.
I can't guarantee that this will get through Hazou's thick head instead of him thinking it's another sealing failure, but it's my best shot. If we can get actual radio going that's a huge win, needless to say.

What are the rules on omakes, and why was the thread not flooded with them the moment the soggoth was available for public contact?
There's no real rules on omakes. They're just one of the things that QMs really like to see and thus tend to give bonus XP for. As for why we don't see them all that often:
  • Omakes are very spoon-intensive
  • If you're too good at writing you're at risk of mysteriously transforming into a QM.

In case @Inferno Vulpix 's very nice post wasn't clear. Visible spectrum light detecting is too difficult to be practical outside of an underground tunnel, (because the visible spectrum is noisy) and those are difficult to maintain, and only useful in niche situations.
