I think it's more that the dice which don't cause narratively satisfying outcomes don't come to mind as often. Also, @Velorien and I are both authors, which means we create narratives. We take the events dictated by the dice and find a way to weave them into a coherent story that feels logical to the reader. That's what writing is all about. If we're doing our job right, any outcome on the dice will lead to a "narratively satisfying outcome".

So, what you're saying is that you're the protagonist and @Velorien the antagonist? Makes sense to me.

I'm not sure how to feel about the lore update winning. What we need is IC information that we can act on, not OOC information. Although I guess some more time to talk things over wouldn't be bad, but eh.

Moving on: @eaglejarl, @Velorien as far as Hazou knows are there any clans missing from my whip count? Or, for that matter, clans that shouldn't be in there.

@eaglejarl Have you decided to do a lore update or the winning action plan?

Technically it will be a lore update, but it will be informed by the plan. I'm going to give myself freedom about sequence and character action, but it will provide in-character information that you need.

Also, Mari.

Keep in mind we have not idea how to enable the Wakahisa bloodline.
True, when things calm down a bit we need to sit down with the clan and figure out just how exactly our two (or three if Naruto joins) bloodlines will play into the clan, and ask Tsunade if she would be willing to look into Noburi's bloodline and see what she can figure out about it and if it's possible to continue the line through Noburi's offspring. We need to keep whatever we learn as clan secrets, but she is pretty much the only mednin we have any real trust in outside the clan.

Radvic remains absolutely correct. This outcome is only just short of "The Akatsuki come for us specifically", so of course there's relatively little salt.

It also helps knowing that the Akatsuki remain nearly as bullshit as they were before the moon aliens got involved, which cuts down on a lot of that.

I am talking about when people get salty about losing. We lost big time. I even had an expectation that the loss won't be terrible for the EN.

I'm pretty happy with this chapter. As someone noted not-so-long ago, this story might well be renamed "Marked for Nice Things." Now, with Jiraiya gone, Tsunade badly damaged (maybe she'll yet die of her wounds?), and the whole world in upheaval, it looks like we're going to get some real risk and drama again. This time (probably) without Mari-sensei to hold our hands! I'm looking forward to it.

Oh, right, plans. I think it's time to implement Plan Youthsuit. The first time around, the moment was not ripe, but now, the time has come!

I hope this isn't an "I quit" message.
No.
I note that yes, it is a horrible outcome and the deaths of Jiraiya and Orochimaru make me personally sad, but it's also an incredible opportunity for the playerbase. You are now the head of a clan in Leaf. You have a seat at the Clan Council table. There is political instability everywhere, and things are going to be changing a lot in the near future. You are in a position to shape that change if you make the right moves.

Honestly, this is the most power and agency that the players have had in the entire quest.
I hope you're right. Jiraiya said otherwise would happen when Hyūga won the hat, which is likely. IMO we seem less a clan and more a family of Mist nin squatting in Leaf, at least to our main opponents, though I did completely overlook the Nara tie-in, so at least we probably won't get kicked out the clan list without a fight.

The fact that the Goketsu is an official clan means that none of the other clans would want us outright declared not a clan because that's the kind of precedent you don't want set if you value the security of your own clan staying a clan. If Hiashi can un-clan the Goketsu because he doesn't like them, then what happens if <political enemy> becomes Hokage after him and doesn't like us?

The method Hiashi would take to destroy the Goketsu would be to strangle our income and try to get our members killed off until we're extinct as a clan and can be safely removed from consideration. Unfortunately for Hiashi, we have Pangolin blood money to keep the clan afloat and (if all goes well in the next couple updates) the backing of Leaf's two remaining S-rankers to deter the more blatant actions against us.

I still want to get someone who's not Hiashi elected, of course, but I think we've got a good shot of staying relevant even if we lose that fight.

Events that probably contributed to our survival as a clan and/or political capital:

* Hazo's interruption with Zabuza.
* Keiko's marriage to Shikamaru
* Gokestu's contribution to making tournament basically all Leaf + minor
* Source/originator of skywalker seals.

I don't think this argument works. Gōketsu is five people from Mist, and extremely young. We don't have any adults representing us at the moment, at all. Saying that's not legit doesn't imply anything about much larger, established clans.

If my whip count is even close to right, we have a really solid chance for our pick to take the hat. We might be slight underdogs, but this is till imminently doable. At the very least we should be able to build up a strong enough power bloc that Hiashi can't just stomp us. Both remaining S-rankers are at worst our nominal allies, Jiayra had expressed a wish that Naruto be adopted into Gotseku which would solve our legitimacy problems. We have a monopoly on skywalker production. Lastly, I don't think anyone will stand for the disrespect to Jiayra's memory that would happen if Hiashi went after us too overtly.

If we request a supermajority of clans' support required for kage vote, we might be able to swing it for Naruto, or put it off long enough for Tsunade to recover and engage in politicking if she so desires.
