I will now nerd out over this Interlude.

The fight was hilarious. Reading Russ bend the narrative was amazing. It was also funny to see how speechless and irrevalant Doom was, he didn't even get any lines!

This is really weird. Russ is… well he's not smiling exactly, but he seems happy. Joyful, even. He seems to be relishing the thought of a major supervillain coming to blows with him on a constant basis, endlessly matching wits and schemes. It's almost like…

You gasp.

"Oh my gosh! You have a Nemesis!"

Russ takes one look at the expression on your face and blanches. "Wait, no-"

Awww, Russ got his first nemesis! And it's Toon Moriarty of all people! What a joyous occasion! 🥳

I'm gonna be optimistic and take part 2 as a sign that Blot would be willing to help ensure Doom is no longer an action sink for us. After all, he needs those actions!

So it's exactly as bad a second it looks with the slight upside that we might be able to recruit PB though I doubt doing so would be anywhere near easy

And now Doom knows about Russ, great

Even if the above sentence is optimistic, I somehow doubt Blot's "cleaning up" is gonna be painless for Doom. He's probably gonna have other things to take care instead of pursuing Russ

That was the most hilarious update I have ever seen (or scene) in any quest in a long time. Since having a nemesis pushes forward a character's story, I feel like having Max be a sidekick to Russ could progress his story as well, as well as teach him Narrative and Comedic subversion.

"Jou have put up a good fight, señor." Loco said as he locked blades with Russ. "But I must reveal the truth to you. Jou see, I have been wielding this sword in my left hand, but I am not ambidexterous." Loco easily swapped the rapier between his hands. "I have not been fighting you with my real skill."

"What a coincidence." Russ replied.

"Oh?"

"I am not fighting you with a real sword."
Yes.
"Jou have made me angry, señor." Loco said as he held his rapier up to Russ' neck. "But you are in the middle of the floor, now. No more toys or tricks. You have lost."

"Have I now?"

The rooster scoffs. "What could possibly defeat a swordsman of my skill?"

Russ pulled out his Colt pistol.
YES!

Yesyesyes!

Oh my goodness, this is everything I hoped for an more. Russ got a nemesis. And not some minor player, one of the biggest around, a potential king in their own right! I'm so proud of them. More opportunities for Doof and Wile to bond with him too, and maybe Tobe. I don't even care that the blot is coming to Doofania, this was all worth it :D

By the way @Made in Heaven if we were to recruit PB how would that effect him and Russ being Nemeses?

Would it be like Jumba where we'd have to let them take some action that would put them up against each other every so often to keep them happy?

Well, at least we have some time, and a way to boost Russ' loyalty which is good.
Bad news, we have to deal with the Blot, and those stats!:o Those are King level stats.

And now Doom knows about Russ, great

No, no, no - you've got that backwards.

Russ knows about Doom.

Yeah, we don't have any hard evidence, but Russ is still going to report what he's heard to the government: that Doom was seen, by him, attempting to bribe a criminal to attack a fine, upstanding businessman such as Doofenschmirtz. in addition, he was also overheard confessing to leaking information to known supercriminals, and practically setting up the attack himself. That's a confession.

Mayor or not, hard evidence or not, this is a sign that the US Government might actually be able to start making moves against Doom directly. Doom might be focusing his attention away from us, or arrested outright, all above-board and legally, and we don't have to lift a finger to make it happen.

The rooster scoffs. "What could possibly defeat a swordsman of my skill?"

"Ah, I see."

Bang.

El Pollo Loco wheezed from behind a soot-blackened beak, and began to topple slowly over. "Jes, I suppose that would do it."

Thud.

Russ, you make me so happy, goddamn.

Also, did we not get Pollo Loco's card after that too?

Also, our boy PB knows.

Because of course he does.
I'll consider it a win for us if we can wiggle that information out of him somehow...

I've never heard of him before. Google says he's a Mickey Mouse villain, which makes this:

Sound like he might have been the one to get rid of Mickey, in some way.

Is he bad enough to completely ruling out working with? Xanatos is very competent, and we're happy working with him.
Personally, I was willing to work with him to the extent of making him Judge Doom's de facto successor in LA if he'd leave us alone. Apparently not his kind of deal.

Well, we did still win the opposed roll for this, though not by much, so it cant be all that bad for us.
Wanna bet?

Well on the one hand I am extremely displeased that we're going to have another significant threat in our territory working directly under our noses, that this was seemingly inevitable and there was absolutely nothing we could do to avert it except pray the dice were on our side in delaying it as long as possible and that despite Russ winning the roll by a not inconsiderable amount he was still outed to Doom and apparently played right into Phantom Blot's hand

But on the other hand this is only part one and anything could happen in the next one even if it only slightly decreases how disastrous this is so I'll hold back my salt for now
THANK you.

Considering that his apparent only desire is to have a rival that can match him in his crimes and considering Russ is the only person that can do that I doubt it

Unless he's willing to accept more of a friendly rivalry where we let him run crime in Doofania and have Russ try to "catch" him every now and then but I doubt he'd go for that
Well, to be fair we have a lot more assets than just Russ. Russ comes fairly close to cancelling him out. Organized crime in Doofania is still weak and gives him few "ins." Wile E. can usually help people against nemeses and is at least credible when trying to operate on the Blot's level, good enough to stand a chance of slowing him down or tipping the balance when he's up against a peer competitor. And we have the home court advantage.

Yes that was a big part of it but it doesn't make the fact that we could be coming out of an action that was a decent success worse off than when we entered, not just in that we now know how fucked we are but also in that Doom now knows about Russ and that he works for us
Just remember, resenting situations like this doesn't help. There exist a lot of other players out there, many of whom are powerful enough to be as dangerous to us as, say, we were to Syndrome. What happened to Syndrome should be your benchmark for when things are really bad.

Doom stared in shock for only a moment before turning and fleeing. Russ let him. His focus was on someone else today.
Ha.

Scrub.

"I really must congratulate you." The Blot said, finally face to face with the real reason for this meeting. "It has been years since anyone has been able to put together even the simplest of my plots. I was so bored I arranged for myself to be sent to St. Canard, simply to have enough criminal Toons to recruit into my next great scheme." The Blot sighed. "Even that has proven tiresome. But now, now! At last, I have a foe that I can-"

Russ decked the Phantom Blot in the mouth.

"Ah!" the Blot cried, rubbing his chin through the inky fabric of his costume. "You have a mean right hook."

Suddenly, Russ felt something blunt club into the back of his head.

"But I've always preferred the sucker punch."
Oooh. Blot just Uno-reverse-card-ed Russ's comedic interruptions.

Russ' hand crept towards the box beside him. This was an ACME warehouse. By all narrative convention, there had to be- yes.

Russ pulled forth a gleaming silver sword. "En garde."

The rooster grinned, springing forward with the beat of black wings. The two weapons clashed, the bird dodging in and out and putting Russ immediately on the defensive. The bird was faster than a spring chicken, and knew it. Russ parried block by block, allowing himself to be forced back against the wall of crates behind him in the face of superior bladework.

Magnificent.

Somewhere, Arizona Goof feels as though someone has stolen his line.

Except, of course, that Arizona would never do that the easy way. :p

"I thought you said this was a successful mission!?" You said, looking over Russ' report with increasing concern.

"You sent me to determine who had taken control of the criminal element in Los Angeles." Russ replied. "I did."

"Yeah, and he saw you, got away, and has now decided to dedicate his life to one-upping you! I was planning on maybe cooperating with whoever it was against Doom, but I suppose now that's out of the-"

"No, no." Russ said, waving his hand back and forth. "I think he'd go for it."

"What?!?!"
I'm with Doof. Wait what?

"You have to understand. The Blot is without question the finest Toon Supervillain in the world." Russ explained to you, sounding oddly positive for a lawman talking about a master criminal. "He's a professional. This isn't a game to him, but it isn't a battle either, not really. It's art. And just because he's planning to use this house as a canvas doesn't mean he isn't willing to collaborate with us on other projects."

This is really weird. Russ is… well he's not smiling exactly, but he seems happy. Joyful, even. He seems to be relishing the thought of a major supervillain coming to blows with him on a constant basis, endlessly matching wits and schemes. It's almost like…

MYYY NEMA NEMA, OOOH MY NEMA NEMA!"

Agent Russ has revealed the leader of the LA underworld- notorious Toon supervillain and master thief, the Phantom Blot!

Agent Russ' intrigue has increased by 2!

Agent Russ has gained the Phantom Blot as a Nemesis!!!

Nemeses are recurring foes that will continually try to face your Hero Units in some form of combat. They will occasionally interfere with actions you send their foes on, giving a penalty to the National Action heroes are performing, beginning their own assault, or inserting themselves into a quest their foe is on.

It's far from all bad however! Facing a Nemesis is the surest way to continue a character's own development, improving stats, unlocking traits, and helping them to grow as a person. A potentially evil person.

In addition to dealing with them as they make their moves, you can also send the relevant Hero on a Nemesis action- to track down, fight, or otherwise face their Nemesis, progressing their own story, preventing their Nemesis from bothering them for some time, or even unlocking new Quests and other rewards!

The Phantom Blot has indicated that he will be getting his affairs in order before he begins his machinations as a sign of good sportsmanship. You have a couple of turns before he begins becoming a threat and Nemesis Actions unlock against him.
Very interesting... and alarming. And interesting.

Guys, I just had a realization. We can direct the Blot. If we make targets that he simply can't resist, we'll be able to set things up to at least try to mitigate his eventual attempts. Some of our biggest projects would be like a beacon to him. Dino Entertainment.

Also, we can at least take Russ with us next turn too. Past that, we need to consider which entities Blot would be willing to work with us against. For the advancement of his own evil plots of course.
