I definitely get the read that, while the government doesn't like us trying to secede, our work towards protecting the people of the American West and willingness to play ball through Russ means that we're viewed in the upper 50 percent of Kings. Obviously Xanatos is their favorite, but then Xanatos also seems to like us, so that's another feather in our cap.

Dubious.

125 - Diplomatic channels with USA gov
120 - Reach out to Bellwether
120 - Campaign for Flubber
100 - Campaign Against The SRA
100 - Campaign For The SRA
90 - Xanatos Research Agreement
70 - Recruit heroes
70 - Recruit from Rolodex
70 - Reach out to Glomgold
65 - Reach out to Evelyn Deavor
65 - Recruit rogues/villains
55 - Reach out to Shere Khan
45 - Reach out to Zaibatsu
40 - Reach out to Shego

Looking at currently known diplomatic options, just opening basic diplomatic channels with the USA government is harder than campaigning in favour of Flubber (you know, that thing that people believe is to blame for the destruction of Hawaii) or making contact with Bellwether (the sheep that hates predators and whose attitude towards us would seem to suggest that she knows that Doof is an adoptive ocelot).

Shego was 105 in turn 1, back when Doof called her "most hated enemy Shego" and she considered him an irritating idiot who kept bugging her about that half of Colorado. No, DC 125 means that as far as Washington is concerned, Doof is still in the doghouse.

Say....I had just a thought. If Dennis's Martial got boosted by working with Temujin when the Warlord trained Doof in Mongolian Boot Camp, then what would happen if we have him work with Temujin again in Dinosaur Cavalry?

No, DC 125 means that as far as Washington is concerned, Doof is still in the doghouse.
The difficulty of diplomatically approaching the US Government has more to do with our unique situation than how much the government actually likes us. The other Kings operate as megacorporations, and their diplomatic option with the US is "secure a government contract". Even if they dislike other megacorporation heads, a business contract with a corporation is just a normal part of US politics. Doofenschmirtz considers himself the sovereign ruler of his territory, and acts like it with how he runs it. Our diplomatic option with the US is "open diplomatic channels". Which means we're not asking to be treated as a corporation looking for a deal, we're asking for the same diplomatic options and activities given to a relationship between sovereign nations. No matter how helpful we are or benign we seem to be, to even provide the veneer of accepting our diplomatic status as a sovereign entity is going to stick in the craw of the government.

Mirage's report this turn has said it's not too late as long as we act quickly. Doing it next turn is acting quickly.
It's not a matter of timing. It's that with our weak diplo we have 50/50, best case 40/60 chances of failing on DC 100 action and even if we reach bare success, next turn Doom just will kick us in our diplo again. As things stands right now instead of going in PR warfare with Doom I would prefer to partially negate caused by him damage through stewardship actions, concentrate on bringing Doom down through intrigue options and just take damage on diplo front. Also as first diplo action we will speak with Shego next turn, and if people worried about our relationship, I think we have things that we can offer, for example free insurance for capes in her employ. And when next time we speak with Xanatos we can discuss taking some part in covering for cape related damage, reducing overall government paying, not for free of course. And so for the second diplo option I would prefer to recruit one of heroes.

It never ceases to amaze me how people refer to probabilities as certainties when planning. I think the planning would be far more productive if people stopped talking about things as though they were going to happen, and instead use the language of "x might happen, so let's take that into consideration when talking about y."

Some thoughts regarding the SRA which have probably been voiced by some others in the previous pages.

1) It is not particularly in character for Doof to worry about the laws of the rest of the country. Most of the cast may have bought into the "eccentric billionaire", but Doof genuinely fancies himself the sovereign of Doofania, for all that he keeps paying taxes and probably would join a jury if summoned.

2) Our support could well make things harder in terms of working for the repeal. The US government does not like us, because we rocked the masquerade in ways that made them look weak and foolish. Their bad opinion has decreased over time (DC to diplomacy with the federal government is now at 125, it used to be 150), but with one explicit super-criminal like Shego in favour of repeal...

3) It is too late for us to reap benefits from campaigning for the repeal at this stage, since we are just latecomers to the latest trendy thing. "Not annoying Shego" is an arguable benefit, but that can probably be managed with a direct diplomatic initiative launched at talking with her, which is one of the possibilities people were talking about for next turn. And note that if our joining her in the anti-SRA campaign worsened things in that front, she would be VERY annoyed.

4) Insuricare rebranding is a first step that we can take and which Mirage can probably handle for us, hopefully giving us some loyalty (she is clearly very upset about her past role in Syndrome's operations and making something pro-cape should help) and keeping her out of the public eye.

5) Failing to commit now means that we can still commit later, should uncommitted power players (like Zootopia, Toffee's organization or Doris) speak out against the SRA and create a viable opposition. It doesn't seem likely, following Glomgold's committed support of repeal, but who knows what next turn will bring.

6) Hego is one of our units with very low loyalty at the moment and would probably appreciate it if we committed, but he doesn't have all that much value as a hero. He is not even remotely good enough in Diplomacy to handle any of the SRA related actions and it is iffy whether he can handle things in the Stewardship side. If the DC is low, maybe he can handle Insuricare. Otherwise, we should seriously consider sending him along on the Xanadu quest, which ought to be the kind of Golden Age pulpy nonsense that he'd enjoy participating in.

Some responses.

1. Bluntly, the QM is a very good writer. It wouldn't have been offered as a choice if it was too out of character. Even Doof knows the rest of the country effects him.
2. This is becoming a campaign issue. With Xanatos lining up his own presidential candidate, it is almost certain that the US Government opinion of the act will be positive*. Frankly opposing it may actually make us in more trouble with the government. Also, Shego explicitly talks about how she follows the rule of the game. Pretending she's in the doghouse with not evidence is unreasonable.
3. It is not. Mirage told us to act quickly, and one turn is. The entire California Zaibatsu has not made an announcement and they are probably collectively more powerful than any other earth-based king. We won't look like a front-runner, but we won't look behind if we act now**. Also, our direct diplomatic is going to look a lot better paired with an SRA announcement.
4. A first step while delaying the key step is a bad idea. It will make it look like a sop without actually committing.
5. No. This is absolutely the worst take. You don't ignore what your heroes tell you to when you ask them to get information.
6. Mirage will likely care as well. And frankly, I suspect Goofy, and Russ would also have positive reactions.

*Because let's be honest here, I'm not betting against Xanatos-backed candidate
**And this is all I want, just avoid getting smeared to much

Actually @Made in Heaven Does the United States in this story still have regular elections despite the chaos? If so, is the next one in November 2016 as expected? Do we know who the candidates are (or does it not matter due to the government being overall impotent)?

Having just binged this, it's pretty clear to me that we need to make our opinion on the SRA known as soon as possible. Doom is successfully using our silence to write our narrative. Public support is turning against us specifically and if we continue to ignore the advice of our heros, actions of our peers, and direction of public sentiment, other factions will start lining up against us for our perceived disdain for supers. Forcing the cold-hearted Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, its cadre of toons, and army of mechanical terrors to capitulate and treat supers equally will become a cause worth fighting for. They might even push through laws forcing government oversight to ensure this upon us (how awkward).

Supporting repealing the SRA will act as a partial foil for this, one that ties in nicely with our existing anti-discriminatory policies. Rather then the toons vs supers narrative Doom is pushing, supporting supers is simply a natural extension of our existing pro-toon polices. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity for success in their pursuit of science.

Pairing the announcement with other actions to support the repeal would certainly help drive our support home, but getting the message out so we can stop or at least hinder Doom's typecasting of us and toons as anti-super is the main imperative here.

Ehhhhh, its a question of how quickly you;d wanna burn that bridge.

Well, given that the entire thread recently voted an option that puts us finding Star and Marco on an extreme time table, I'd say "very quickly".

Hego is one of our units with very low loyalty at the moment and would probably appreciate it if we committed, but he doesn't have all that much value as a hero.

Bullshit. Dennis didn't have much value as a hero until we put effort into him either, but he's suddenly bloomed as a very solid extra. Hego at this moment hasn't gotten anything because people have been treating him like he's made of glass and not letting him do shit that would make him happier with us and make him more effective.

I rather we wait until the auction is finished for Xanadu. Too much is going on right now and I want Temujin to visit his homeland with his Dino Steed.
Dino Steed is all well and good, but when, realistically, will too much *not* be going on? We have enough fronts open, enough paths for growth available, enough things to do that we could wait for in-game years before we ran low on things we wanted to handle soon. Such is the nature of a CKII quest.

If we have too much going on to squeeze in Xanadu, then we won't be able to squeeze in Xanadu. If we can squeeze in Xanadu without needing to assign Wile E. to anti-SRA lobbying or something similarly sub-optimal (which I'm almost certain we can, having looked over our hero list to figure out how we can Jenga things at length), then we can squeeze in Xanadu.

There are other reasons to want to do Xanadu later -like, yes, waiting for Raptor-Khan - but the idea that we don't have the manpower to do a good job of it is not borne out by our hero pool.

xanadu is a quest not a Martial action.

we can put Doof on a learning action and Ludivine on the Dino action as her trait applies to it giving her an effective 35 for that action.

throw some XP at it as well and it should be good. Or she does another martial big brain action and we still benefit.

that is the plan Phineas and Ferb plus XP should crit our new social media platform which will probably do a great job as selling ourselves as eccentric but also carrying our message far and wide.

what if the very frist post to our new social media site is our postion on the SRA in the form of a musical number? use our repuation to our advantage to make us look like a damn show boat rather then being wishy washy.

The Most Boring Nega-Quest
The Most Boring Nega-Quest

You are Knit Robert Knots Esq., owner of the beigest office in New Orleans and stenographer for the Louisiana charter of the Boring Club. After a thankfully boring, but unfortunately long process of executing the estate of your former neighbors, you have found yourself with a large sum to expand your firm. We live in times that are too exciting, lets try and fix that.

[ ]Install New Security System:
DC 40
You have found a beige silent-alarm system but lost the instruction manual while unpacking it. Should be simple enough to install… right?

(Reward: Chance of someone breaking in undetected reduced slightly, ???)

Adjust health and fitness routine
[ ]DC 15
With the food shortage, your doctor has recommended planning for when your stockpile of tasteless cereal dries up. It's important to maintain a BMI of 21.7, the median of standard weight status.

(Reward: Knit Knot's health is maintained, ???)

Move Heavy Box
[ ]DC 80
A package of significant size and weight has been delivered to the warehouse. Let's bring it to the mailroom.

(Rewards: Whatever is in the box, side entrance unobstructed)

[ ] Reach out to a Seminar Company
DC 65
It's been years since you've done your "Knit Knot's Guide to a Boring Office Environment" presentation and the company you previously used for networking with interested parties has since gone bankrupt. The phone book (with a beige slip on cover) list several alternative agencies, all you have to do is convince one of them that dullness sells.

(Rewards: Unlock Speaker actions, possibility of rapport with other speakers later on)

[ ] Talk with Neighbors
DC 40
You have started renting out the room through a third party and a firm has finnaly moved in. You should greet them

(Reward: Adhere to common courtesy, ???)

[ ] Attempt to draw in more customers
DC 115
General advertising guidelines dictate that when promoting a good or service, it should be made to seem as exciting as possible. You however have no desire to misrepresent how dull your consulting is… This will take some pondering.

(Reward: Public is more aware of your company, ???)

[ ]Prioritize Consultation
DC 35
It brings you satisfaction to know that your making your customers lives a bit more boring. Let's give it our all.

(Reward: Increase in Income this turn, clients impressed by your commitment)

[ ]Hold Internship Interviews
DC 55
There is a lot of paperwork to be done, see if any of the local students can handle the monotony of your work.

(Reward: Unlock more complex Stewardship actions)

[ ]Increase Production
DC 80
You currently lack the output for your products to be available outside of stores in town and a few specialty retailers around the state. Perhaps it's time to automate.

(Reward: Moderate Boost in Income)

[ ]Decipher Vague Requests
DC 90
A series of letters have been sent to you requesting your assistance with making the sender's life less exciting. With poor penmanship and the writer never directly states the source of the issue, it will take a close examination and cross referencing to your encyclopedias to make heads or tails of the info.

(Reward: ???)

[ ]Find Old Textbook on Toon Studies
DC 65
You only used the first half in the Intro to Toons course you were assigned as an elective. Perhaps the second half holds the secret to steering clear of their antics

(Reward: Toon Research Unlocked, Mother will not insist you come over for 2 turns)

[ ]Locate Warehouse Mouse
DC 10

[ ]Flavorless flavor packets
DC 75
With sources of food being limited, you won't be able to get around having to eat spiced foods in some cases. You just need to go over your notes on tasteless cereal and extrapolate it.

(Reward: Food on table is guaranteed to be bland, increases effectiveness of "Non-Eccentric Eccentricities" trait)

[ ]Explore Warehouse Rooms
DC 60
Perhaps their powers can be used for boredom.

(Reward: New research options available, ???)

[ ]Look into "Wobble Goggles"
DC 30
The ability to "see things from a different perspective" might assist in dealing with what you inherited.

(Reward: Gain understanding of how to use Wobble Goggles)

I wanted to make the intro post to a quest that no one would play no matter how evil their dimension is. To accomplish this I dug around for a character who would be a big kill-joy to the entire setting.

And general notes on the above
  • Knit Knots is a 1-dimensional character from Season 1 of Imagination Movers
  • His niece Nina is from Hawaii and the Movers went to throw her a surprise party
  • "Non-Eccentric Eccentricities" is a trait which acts as a boon/malus to diplomacy
    • Characters who are unhappy with how crazy everything is will enjoy his advocacy for dullness
    • Characters who are used to insanity will assume Knit Knots is a poorly thought-out alter-ego

This is isn't true. They are about equal but not more powerful. Glomgold has more then enough money to buy them one by one. Xantos can make them break a part with ease. Dor well can hat them a part. The 19th Lord of Uranos' Kingdom's Tempest Domain, Drossel Juno Vierzehntes Heizregister Fürstin von Flügel has the numbers and tech to really hurt them. Every King has something that balances them with other kings.
