Just as a helpful reminder.

The failures admittedly hurt, but we tried to mitigate them as much as we could. The only other people who had an idea this was happening were Shego and Xanatos, so everyone else ought to be able experiencing crazy luck too.
I understand that but if they all somehow managed to avoid any critical failures and we just help everyone I'm gonna be pissed

Let's look at the positives. While we didn't finish any of the big wins we wanted like superpowers or fixing our security pretty much all of our secondary objectives and overall goals have been furthered in some way. Our spy network grows in its reach, Ludivine switching to climate control still contributes both our food and genetics plans and we're definitely getting a big lore bomb about what's going on in Vegas.

To continue this on a positive trend, Janus has no reason in character to want to betray us and the interlude is called Katastrophic so maybe we'll discover Kat.

In the unambiguously good news Tobe, Dennis, and Marco are looking at some real gains going by their rolls and Vanessa's promising as well.

As for Max, he's the one I'm the most worried about. Him being a butt monkey just isn't funny anymore.

Does the Crit Success on recruiting Juniper even do anything compared to a normal success?

This turn, we build a lazer defense system that will be no use against the Shadow Blot, recruited an OK employee, stranded everyone in Drusselstein, destroyed our digital security, Jumba fucked up god-knows-how, and learnt to build good greenhouses apparently.

Well we did crit success too hotspot infiltrations, reaching out to Evelyn, and working on dimensional jumping.

I think to leverage this we'd best reorient towards cloak-and-dagger behind the scenes stuff rather than trying to challenge other Kings on an open field. What a mess.

I mean, I know this looks bad but...

Really the only thing that is really bad off is DoofOS, which still had an even chance of being in danger anyway regardless of what we did.

As for the personals, they (Max) suck but they also aren't affected by the inator.

So I'd say having one major crit fail compared to what almost everyone else is going to go through isn't actually that bad.

Last turn's rival reports the dice blessed our enemies with almost constant successes. Let's hope the Doofdice turn some sadism towards them for once.

I would just like to see how Xanatos reacts to critical failures lol. Well, he was warned so his reaction won't be quite as hilarious as it could've been, but still. Let the stoic mask crack just once please!

for Kat, all it takes is for him to roll and get a crit fail as well and he should end up in just as bad a situation as us, as long as his sabotaging us doesn't count as a personal action. I hope that's what happens

Ok, so looking at the results...

[X] Build Roof-Mounted Laser Cannons (Wasabi)
DC 95 (Reduced by XP)
53+20+26+20+2=121
Critical Success!

Despite his personal fear of heights, Wasabi was more than up to the task of putting together your desired defenses. With settings from stun all the way to cooked goose, the heart of your power is now secured against rampaging ant armies, or robotic hoplites, or all the other weird things the universe seems to like throwing at you every few months.

The DC to attack Doofania proper via martial action has increased by 15!
Well this is nice! We've got defenses that apply to both ground and aerial attackers. Helpful, though hopefully we won't need them.

[X] Recruit from your Rolodex: Juniper (TECHNOR)
DC 60 (Reduced by XP)
67+18+23+4=112
Critical Success!

TECHNOR, the Mechanical Man, is overjoyed you have accepted his references! Juniper starts as a soloist in your weekly musical numbers tomorrow, and will be on call if you need any other unexpected villainous or dance based problems dealt with.
Good to see. Admittedly, now we only have room for.one more hero unit, but Juniper ought to have some interesting traits.

[X] Reach out to Evelyn Deavor (Goofy)
DC 55 (Reduced by XP)
89+18+28+5=140
Critical Success!

To be continued in Interlude: This is Rat Country

[X] Infiltrate a Hotspot: Las Vegas (Agent Russ) (96% w/ XP)
DC 65 (Reduced by XP)
63+17+38+5+7=130
Critical Success!

To be continued in Interlude: This is Rat Country
Ok, so we've got successes here. Good to see. The name is admittedly slightly concerning though.

[X] Host a company retreat (Roddy Blair, King of Lairs)
DC 65 (Reduced by XP)
6+24+29+5=64
Critical Failure!

As you step out of the plane, you are very excited to see what Roddy cooked up for you and your dozens of employees. Apparently he's booked you a conference 'somewhere he hoped would bring back good memories', whatever that means. Oddly, the plane seems to have landed in a grassy field instead of an actual airport. Oh well. You breathe in, and take in the intoxicating scent of pickled herring and… doonkleberries. Oh no.

"I just got away from here!" Malifishmertz screams, manifesting out of your family ring with a look of indignant fury on his face. You understand the feeling. Looking out towards the town, you can see the customary angry mob headed in your direction. In the corner, Roddy's confusion is slowly giving way to horror.

Due to a miscommunication and a series of absurd coincidences, Roddy Blair has booked your employees an all-expense paid trip to Drusselstein's one and only convention center! ...field. It's an empty field. Your heroes take -10 loyalty until the end of the July/August 2017 turn.
...oh dear. That loyalty hit is not good. Well, at least most of.our heroes have good loyalty already? Lovemuffin might or.might not be plotting so!e thing now though.

[X] Improve DoofOS Security (Alan Bradley)
DC 130 (Reduced by XP)
51+24+26+20+5+2=128
Personal Attention Reroll: 35+24+26+20+5+2=112
Critical Failure!

You… you don't know what happened.

Up until a few days ago, the work on DoofOS was going swimmingly. This morning, Alan walked into your office to inform you that the firewall had failed catastrophically, and you should expect the cyber attacks to continue with no plausible means of halting them. He took full responsibility for the disaster, saying only that the catastrophe was the fault of his own decisions.

To be continued…
...god damn it. We have half our income riding on that! Screw it, I say we just abandon the OS and replace it with something better built for the job.

[X] Infiltrate a Hotspot: Cape Suzette (Mirage) (95% w/ XP)
DC 55 (Reduced by XP)
76+17+28+5=126
Critical Success!

Mirage had little trouble inserting herself into Cape Suzette, as the city's status as a world port means humans in town for business is not an unusual sight. A few greased paws here and there, and you now have a hand in the heart of the Baja, and a few moles as well. Seems like the big notes on the board at the moment are ongoing raids by Air Pirates on Khan Air shipping lanes, and the ongoing predator prejudice protests. You can expect regular updates.

Expanded Rival Reports for Cape Suzette unlocked!
*sigh* Well, at least we've got a success here.

[X] Study the SHV 20905 Plans (Ludivine)
DC 80 (Reduced by XP)
Absent Minded activates!
Work on Climate Controlled Environments instead!
DC 100 (Reduced by XP)
87+38+40+4=169
Critical Success!

Ludivine set out to build a working prototype of the Shiva device, only to realize that she wanted a superior Clean Room in which to construct the rare and delicate machinery required. Then she decided she wanted it temperature regulated. One thing led to another, and before you knew it the two months were up and Ludivine had a complex capable of withstanding the vacuum of space.

Research options unlocked when the proper requirements are met! The rewards for Genetically Engineered Crops are slightly increased!
Damn it, seriously?! And just when we really could have used the laser! At least we've got something potentially useful out of this. Maybe we could sell the designs to the feds?

[X] Research superpowers (Dr. Jumba Jookiba) (99% w/ XP)
DC 110
1+38+38+30+3
Critical Failure!

To be continued in Interlude: Katastrophic

[X] Janus Lee (Spend time with your coworkers)
100

To be continued in Interlude: Katastrophic
...ugh...I'm afraid of what we're going to see.

[X] Study the Crystal Key (Malifishmertz) (99% w/ XP)
DC 40 (Reduced by XP)
90+4+18+3=115
Critical Success!

Malifishmertz has seen Crystal Keys before, and had no problem writing up a quick summary of how they work and what they do for you. He even sketched out a means by which, through the cunning use of frog's toes, you might keep the portal open for long periods of time. Then, because he had an extra week, he even set up an easy means of recording the universes you visit for ease of later reference. All you need to do is bring back a bit of rock or metal from whatever places you visit. This is just what you needed. Putting this into a larger device now will be child's play!

The DC of the Other-Dimensioninator has been reduced by 80! It will grant you access to (random) planes full of all sorts of valuable goodies and potential resources!
Well, at least something important went right! The extra DC reduction is definitely nice, and I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of.goodies we can get.

[X] Start the Doofenshmirtz Evil Space Program (L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N.) (76% w/ XP)
DC ???, higher result means higher initial success
19+38+14-2+10=79
Marginal Progress

L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N., in all their infinite wisdom, decided that the best way to jump-start your space program was to form their very own rocket! The craft was masterfully constructed out of an old fridge with a rocket booster attached, and some parts stolen from a nearby playground in lieu of a nose cone. The monstrosity made it approximately one thousand feet off the ground before being blasted into pieces by your laser defense grid coming online. The debris fell to the ground and set Rodney's company car on fire. It's not all bad, though! L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N.'s thankless interns have fortunately filed all the paperwork with the government, making sure that they don't suspect you of firing off nuclear missiles or anything and allowing your work in the space program to continue unhampered.

You did not go to space today.

Evil Space Program Progress Level: At least the paperwork is filed…
...at least it didn't go any worse.

[X[ Tell Shego you Broke Reality
52

To be continued in Interlude: Ego

[X] Hego (Try Talking to Shego)
18

To be continued in Interlude: Ego
Hoo boy...this is going to be painful.

[X] Dennis the Duck (Train with your Instructor)
43

To be continued in Interlude: The Cold Shadow

[X] Tobe and the Vagabond Ninja (Look for a Ninja Master)
83

To be continued in Interlude: The Cold Shadow

[X] Marco Diaz (Train with the Vagabonds)
77

To be continued in Interlude: The Cold Shadow
Well...this is concerning, to sway the least.

[X] Max (Visit Spoonerville)
3
To be continued in Interlude: The Calisota Chainsaw Massacre!
...shit.

[X] Vanessa (Help your weird ghost uncle move in)
60+10=70

To be continued in Interlude: Housewatering Party
Well, at least Malifishmirtz and Vanessa are enjoying themselves.

Really the only thing that is really bad off is DoofOS, which still had an even chance of being in danger anyway regardless of what we did.

With LOVEMUFFIN at -50 loyalty, there is a non inconsiderable chance that they just walk out, which would mean losing the extra action.

That would be bad.

-50 being the loyalty level in which Janna walked out in the AU in which Doof takes Toffee's corn deal.

Now I'm glad nobody put Dinosaurs in the top plans for this turn. Not that I wanted Superpowers to be done this turn either, but whatevs.

I didn't vote for this plans, but the results are hilarious! :V

Shame about DoofOs, but oh well. We put enough actions into it, it flunked, let's see if we need to scrap it or salvage it.

...god damn it. We have half our income riding on that! Screw it, I say we just abandon the OS and replace it with something better built for the job.
I really don't see a way we can recover any digital market share after this turn. We'll need to abandon that front and look to other sources of income. Stewardship and research if we're lucky, supervillainy if we're not. Our silicon valley dreams are certainly dead for the year.

If Encom managed to reclaim digital supremacy after multiple crit fails in a row, then we can certainly recover after 1. We just need to be willing to put forth some effort. We've got Alan, who's all about the digital stuff. If we can't figure out a way to stay competitive even with him helping us, we don't deserve our Learning score.

Well the dice gives and the dice takes away, still hope we can roll better to begin with.

Do we still get the "retreat" actions? Or are they voided due to the fourth world country.

Its possible that thanks to the science of space that LOVEMUFFIN lost the biggest modifier.

Also, the name: The Cold Shadow. That's similar to a name of a video game that Donald Duck stared as a ninja, that might be good.

Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow.

Personally, I'm going to wait to see for the rival reports.

Like again, DoofOS imploding isn't good, but if all we lost out of this turn was that and whatever happened with Jumba and Lee, it still might be better off compared to what everyone else is going through, especially since DoofOS isn't the main part of our company (although we're probably going to need to take some income options next turn)

Wait. Wait. Waaait one freaking moment.

@Made in Heaven, why did Ludivine do Climate Controlled Environments? Looking at her Absent Minded trait and the DCs of our other Learning Actions, she should have done Research Exotic Vehicles instead since that has the closest DC with only a 5 point difference!
