I have to say, I'm rather unimpressed with this whole thing from a quest point of view. More and more its feeling like we could have just ... not been here. And nothing would have changed.

A powerful fae, a kitsune, an apprentice magician, and a prince of hell against a heretic with the spear of longinus.

This might actually be decently balanced.

I mean, to be fair, us giving Xanatos the prophecy was the main reason why Xanatos was even able to properly defend against Demona.
Utterly irrelevant. I'm talking from a doylist point of view regarding the entire Event since after meeting Marco. This has effectively been a long drawn out interlude about Xanatos's forces fighting Demona's.

Even mmore so considering how many rolls have been shown only to lead to ... basically just the literary equivilent of stalling

I wish, but with Xanatos being there and this being his whole thing, I doubt we'd get a chance.

Still, if we do get lucky and get to take the Lance home with us: imagine Khan with a +35 to Combat checks.
Ah but we didn't need to help him. We can claim the lance as payment

I can't imagine it's a constant flat buff of 35 on all targets but if it is? Yeah Khan gets itnd he's suddenly the biggest juggernaut on the planet

Does the Spear of Sanguineous deal metaphysical and conceptual damage?

Freaking hell our Best Boi Temujin would have steamrolled and obliterated all these Gargoyles if he was here, and he would actually have a decent chance of fighting Demona even if she has the Spear. Khan was nicknamed "The Scourge of God" after all.

I just hope that Janna or our minions won't suffer some serious injuries after this event. I'm not even sure if we can heal a wound from such a powerful weapon..

Wrong nomad conqueror. Attila is the scourge of god, not Temujin.

Janna Diplomacy Check: Perform some quick self-reflection

Success!

A wave of nausea passed over Janna as she watched four old friends being torn apart. The snarling, raging brutes outside had been easy to fight. They were monsters, all too easy to compare to that monster. But these gargoyles spoke, they cried, they… mourned. Janna remembered the sound of tortured screams and scraping bones. Those were all… people...

Mmmmmm. I smell.... therapy potential.

I told people that this was gonna be a proper warzone, and if we're feeling like we're under-participating in the narrative we could have banked heavier on "this is war" and brought the only cavalry that matters.

bah, no matter. Our forces have acquitted themselves reasonably, and while I agree that our characters have had a rather muted role in things that's up to the whims of dice and we can only weight them in our favor. We cannot guarantee they will succeed. It is possible that even with TEMUJIN KHAN we would have relatively low impact due to rolls. Or, at the least, continue to seem low impact.

Frankly, I think our characters being here has 100% mattered so far for the horde assault. We wore away a lot of their dice and assisted in riding out the surprise Pack appearance. The Huntsclan get a massive critical PR boost and that's a reasonably positive thing for the world considering the three largest threats we know of are Dorito, Toffee, and Phobos. Huntsclan are willing to work with magic and cut working relationships with magic creatures in order to pursue a greater goal, so them getting pumped up is absolutely fine so long as they are aiming at the big bads.

For the smaller folk, we may need to set up an extradition/resettlement area as best we can. Huntsclan are primarily NY based so creating a haven in Doofania or buying Drusselstein and tucking them away there might be fine. The big yikes here is how much Toffee will choose to leverage the Huntsclan's rise in popularity among Earth's magical folk. Toffee gaining a major recruiting boom on Earth is actually a "Earth falls" level of bad, and if Toffee can be going toe to toe with Phobos wellll the only one we know on that tier is Bill, and Bill might be beyond that tier (or below that tier? but that's unlikely) depending on how the authors will be treating the extent of his backstory conquest.

tl;dr
the seeming lack of impact is due to us mitigating a lot of catastrophe that would occur in our absence, combined with excellent mook rolls for xany.
Huntsclan recruiting is mostly fine EXCEPT
it will likely result in Toffee gaining a massive boon to recruiting on earth long term. Which is fairly catastrophic

wow I love the shock spiral Janna has realizing that these are people and not just, you know, extremely resilient star-vs monsters that shrug off magical blasts to a Toon-esque degree. What Janna is doing to people is not the fire and cool-shades metal version of what Star was doing. She's using Satanic magic to seriously mangle people. Marco is literally hacking people to death with a chainsaw. Tom gets it, but like, he's had his whole life to come to terms with war and killing. An excellently timed introspection roll and she passed it thank goodness.

The Spear of Longinus. Dealer of the fifth and final sacred wound, or the final of the five thousand four hundred and sixty six wounds depending on devotion. I can see a universe in which Demona pulls a Green Goblin here and kills herself with the weapon which draws blood and water from the immortal. Unlikely though. She usually slinks off to complain about how it's not her fault.

barring that, Feldrake is immortal isn't he? They might be limited by the spear's holy brilliance for now, but should she lose control of it there might be an opening for him

Huh. I mean... its not good, but how bad is up in the air. The mechanics for how such an instrument like this would function would be fascinating: First you have the narrative weight humanity gives the civilization, and narrative is magic, and then we have whatever the act of drawing the blood of the mortal-ish vessel of El Shaddai actually did in the first place. Which was something, relics like the Arma Christi had power, but none of them were toppling cities or civilizations in the first century AD.

We've put a lot more weight on it in recent decades, weaving its mystique into something menacing but by itself it should have similar inherent might to, say, the pillar Christ was whipped upon. There are at least four full claimants for the title of Lance of Longinus out there and I wonder if any of them would operate this way. Rome, Austria, Armenia, and Antioch.

Huntsclan are primarily NY based
No they aren't on both ends.

For one, the Huntsclan are willing to temporarily work with magical creatures...when it allows them to pursue their greatest goal of genocide. That's nowhere near the "they can put aside their prejudices to only aim for the 'worst' of the pack" that you are portraying them as. That's like saying the Nazis were willing to put aside their prejudices and focus on some big bad just because Jewish collaborators existed. They technically might be able to work parallel to us in fighting Toffee and Bill's cultists, but that is in no way a "good" thing. We have no way to control them, and they aren't going to focus just on those big three when there is also an entire planet to purge. Any armistices with them are incredibly short-term (meaning individual battles and not entire wars), and likely benefit their PR even more.

Like, ultimately I don't care about this chapter's outcome giving them good PR because I feel both "hold the line" and "go in" had good arguments and these results don't suddenly make those arguments retroactively better or worse. We knew the Huntsclan winning a PR victory was a potential consequence of this. There is no need to try to spin it as some kind of good or even mixed thing. It is simply the price of one of our choices of us trying to do the best with what information we had. No more, no less.

Secondly, they are primarily based in New York, but they are active over the entire globe. Us seeing most of the New York branch has to do with the fact that the show is based in NYC. The dragons are active (or were active, depending on their current status) all over the world in defense against the Huntsclan and other such maniacal people and organizations being active all over the globe against the magical world.

No it fucking isn't, that's like saying the KKK getting a critical PR boost is a reasonably good thing. Except this KKK is magical ninjas, and no, they won't be willing to work with us in a meaningful capacity, not without trying to undermine and sabotage any magical being they're forced to associate with.

Genocidal monsters come AFTER omnicidal monsters on the threat scale and as such can be employed to stop greater threats. Good pr is generally considered part of the compensation package.

Threats to existence
Threats to varyingly smaller cosmological spaces (toffee / phobos if not counterbalanced)
Threat to planet (bill)
Threat to all sentient life on planet (demona)
Threat to one specific type of life form (huntsclan)
Mass murderers
Spree killers
...
People who talk in the theater.
The price of being able to use the hunt as disposable troops is that if they win they gain an XP level.
Which makes them give more XP when destroyed in turn.
All part of the plan.

I have philosophical problems with your assessment of acceptable evils, Barondoctor, but ... those are legitimately petty. Unimportant now, and likely to be unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

What I have a major problem is your assessment of potential threats.

Threats to existence
Threats to varyingly smaller cosmological spaces (toffee / phobos if not counterbalanced)
Threat to planet (bill)

Burning down dimensions, turning universes into neverending frathouses, annihilating the apparent ruler of Time. Later on, during his death scene, Bill attempts to bargain with Stanley Pines by offering "money, riches, infinite power! Your own galaxy!"

Bill is a far greater threat than Toffee or Phobos could ever hope to be.

Curse me kilts! Demona's activating her Stand!

...speaking of Demona and games of outwitting:

Canonical result, cool, but I'm gonna be honest: I'm surprised tricking Demona into gloating required a check at all

I would assume that after all this time she's at least starting to catch on that Xanatos is like Doctor Who. Letting him talk is almost never a good idea. That being said, she's still a self-sabotaging lunatic.
