You do know that India or China dwarfed Rome even at its peak, right?
Rome is famed because of Western Rome-wank, but, like, China was bigger and stronger for quite a lot of time (let's ignore Warring States okay).
And we are not Not! China mate, and we are not Not! India. And trying for either of those with a baby Rome/Venice at your door is asking for trouble.

...we are explicitly based at least partially on Indus Valley Civilization and we favour bureaucracy, heavy admin focus and a lot of people. We are actually pretty well represented by India + China + some xenophilia and philosophy thrown into the mix.
So, yes, yes we are very much a mix of not!India and not!China.

@Academia Nut, have the trelli invented contracts, deeds and certificates? ( and would we with maining DL? )

And being Rome +Venice, does this mean they share the political and economic modis operandi of those two ? Or it is more of aesthetic thing?

China. o_O
No, really, China. Rome died quite a long time ago, China, while in other form, still exists.
By that same logic, so does Rome. China just has the name. China as it is now bears as much resemblance to its ancient counterpart as the various collection of European states bears to Ancient Rome.

You have that backwards.
Not really.....
Have you not been paying attention to what the West Trade Post is supposed to do?
So we have the pleasure of fighting a civil war later when border nomads grow bold? Like risk of fracturing is growing bigger at quicker rate every turn that our sub-state reached self-sufficient level.
We have appeased the North for now and we are even working on the Palace which will help further so don't be so dramatic. Also the Nomads have been mentioned as gathering but doing nothing for the last century, are we supposed to sit around doing nothing but preparing for them whilst they are there?

No, not really, we have far more control than the Chinese did and we have a far different system than they did as well, comparing ourselves to China is wishful think as we are far too different

And yet China was cut up by Europe.

And now China is rising up in the world.

Basically, civilization fall and rise. You can not simply point to recent history and say EUROPEAN ARE SUPERIOR. They just happened to be superior at that particular point in time.

Now it's a moot point whose civilization is actually superior, because we rise and fall together as globalized civilization. China's problem is now America's problem and vice versa.

Actually, we can.

Like the original Lowlanders, they're mashing a button, and it's scary and effective in the short term, but it's fragile and will break them in the long run. We just need to keep our heads down.
Again, why are you voting for the western TP if this is your opinion?

Both of you have had those for centuries in one former or another.

And the Trelli are aggressively mercantile and like paying their warriors in land and slaves, while having a very mercenary foreign policy with the intent of 'helping' those around them until they help their way to control.

China was craved up and shat on and killed by literally everyone during the Age of Imperialism. What's matters isn't who lasts the longest but who last's at the end.
And what exactly constitutes 'the end'? We do not have any claim whatsoever to living at the end of times when the points scored are counted.
For all we know, in 100 years China will rule the world. They certainly are moving in vaguely that direction.

And Romes successors, aka Western Europe, literally carved up China like a cake for profit.

You can put that under steam engine and industrial capacity jump thanks to highly competitive mercantile environment leading to innovate or die situation.

China model failed in that regard for being too capable of controlling large land, leading to lack of effective competitors.
