for the temple vote, are the "techniques that went into making [The Temple]" the sturdy construction techniques, teh statue shaping/decorations and other art-based techniques, both, or some other thing? And is this like the improved kilns way back when where we'll get them in a few turns automatically, or would the tech opportunity be lost until/unless we triggered the techup again through innovation rolls and/or more temple building?

It's a random construction, materials, or art tech up.

How accepting are current civilizations of other pantheons. Do they recognise them as valid but lesser? Or are they seen as but spirits of some note whilst the actual gods are elsewhere? Or are pantheons fixed and exclusive?

They figure the gods and spirits of others are real, but perhaps they are interpreting them incorrectly or are generally unworthy of worship.

moderator action indicates stability loss Academia Nut already warned against this exact sort of behaviour @Umi-san:
Let's maybe not veer into topics that might cause the standard liquid salt reactor that this thread can be sometimes to somehow turn into a pressurized light water reactor that is leaking coolant.
This has already passed and nothing came of it, but I'm still going to just mention it and request people don't engage in this sort of behaviour again.

Well the totally honest flipside of this is the King doing all of the funny business and fooking over the other Oligarch families, unbalancing the system in the King's favor.

The point of corruption does not have to be undermining central authority directly. It can also be sidestepping checks and a balances, rendering unfair and biased judgements or undermining one's rivals, none of which directly impacts the power of the king. Further a king risen though such a system would see it as normal.

These rely on our system actually HAVING systemic checks on the king's power. We don't; we have technical limits (due to communication and bureaucratic efficiency, and represented by our centralization) but no actual checks on his power.

The King usurping power is meaningless in our system.

You know the Xoh's strategy of inter marriages almost makes me wish we had heriditary if only for the fact that it would make diplo annexing other civs easier hell if we had heriditary we would have probably already diplo annexed the high land kingdoms

Hmmm...had a thoughtthis morning while skimming through as many of the new pages this thread has produced as i could stand... will pilgrimages to the Sacred Forest include the visitors getting helped via Sacred Warding after our priests explain our gods and cosmology? It is pretty much the most powerful (and well tested) sign of our gods' favor...

Edit:
Also, finally changing vote:
[X] [Library] Valleyhome
[X] [Temple] See to the spread of the techniques that went into making this place (+3 art, tech advance)
[X] [Corruption] Deploy force
[X] [Diplo] Send aid to the Metal Workers (-2 Diplo, -2 Econ, -2 Art, -2 Mysticism)
[X] [Policy] No change
Still rather torn on the temple vote, and might very well switch to pilgrimage after breakfast...

Being non-hereditary has its own reward and downside. Note that we don't get shitty things like incompetent sons and succession crisis in like...forever.

Now this I consider an actual good point. Mayhap there are no true checks, but I was figuring that the political factions of the King, the Oligarchs, and the new Shamans act as their own primitive checks as factions.
Do you not agree?

No the actual question is: Is it impressively insane or insanely impressive?

The synergy of enhancing our pilgrimage is incredible, particularly when in conjunction with the other options. It enhances our cultural influence, wealth, diplomacy, and knowledge as people travel to pilgrimage sites which our civilization is ideally suited for.

The library next to the temple enhances it further and is itself boosted by Lore of Wisdom, our Cosmopolitan Acceptance enhances it given it's about people traveling to our civilization in times of need and boosts technology, and centre of trade as more people will come thus bringing gifts and money to buy things or acquire influence with.
Hmm, actually, you know, I think a Library as part of the temple that people go on pilgrimages to, might lead to people bringing knowledge as tribute. Let people come to us to give wisdom and legends as tribute. Let us give them wisdom and parables in return.

...I'll be changing my vote.

Then there's the other social values that people will see and experience that they wouldn't normally do so such as the general wealth of the community, and the many wonders we've constructed. Sacred Cows will likely be particularly interesting given they also play a spiritual role, particularly with AN's mention of us trying to breed all white cows with the leather consequently being white. There is also further enhancement with other wonders such as The Games if we ever get around to them.
A few things that would help to shock pilgrims:
-The journey
--Metal Workers
---Travel along the coast they know to be Nomad infested, cleared by us where they get their meal of veal and fish after being checked for plague by crow masked shamans and possibly given the Warding(seems likely we'd give pilgrims the Sacred Warding). Sail past where people pull vast amounts of salt from the sea.
---To the great dye manufactories and forges of Redshore, where everyone is using starmetal for everything.
---Up the river, then entering an artificial river, to where the trees grow denser than anyone had ever seen.

-Lowlanders
--Travel up the the Badlands, through where thousands of ancient graves lie where those seeking refuge had fallen short, or through the bloody hills, where they get checked for plague by crow masked shamans and possibly given the Warding(seems likely we'd give pilgrims the Sacred Warding).
--Up the terraced, farm covered hills along the river, richer than the richest soils of the plains, sailing up the rivers to the great hidden city of Valleyhome, where trees and manmade streams and waterfalls run through a city on peer with distant Xohy, but not a single skull to be seen, nor the stink of humanity. Here they are given the ritual meal of veal and fruit.
--Then, as they trek over land with the large boat(which people are inexplicably carrying), they then come upon a NEW river, one carved by the hands of man, running through the great forests.

It's basically a tour!

I think we can expect a certain degree of friction. Unless the Thunder Horse lose their Family Honor trait, but I think that's unlikely. We could see the eastern cities attempting to break away, maybe?
Might happen, in which case we're back to status quo again :V
It's a random construction, materials, or art tech up.
Hmm:
-Construction - Possibly mortar, used to join the statue together seamlessly? Or advanced joints for supports.
-Materials - Possibly figuring out Brass, since we have lead and copper already.
-Art - Lead glazing, sculpture techs...

They figure the gods and spirits of others are real, but perhaps they are interpreting them incorrectly or are generally unworthy of worship.
So someone like Black Eagle is clearly Crow having a fine time playing a trick on the silly Highlanders, while the Xohysirri are clearly worshipping demons who don't deserve worship because they are bloodthirsty, untrustworthy fiends(distinct from OUR corpse eating troll), but are definitely quite powerful?

Seeing things like this makes me certain that in the future when someone comes up with the Not!Internet there will be the dumb trolls, decent trolls, and then Ymaryn trolls the trolliest of them all.

...

Wow. That's a strange thought I just had.

So what if when the Not!Internet is created, Not!Spacebattles (distinct from Nega-SB) is eventually created and spawns Not!Sufficient Velocity, and on Not!Sufficient Velocity a Not!Academia Nut creates a Not!Paths of Civilization?

We might get the first true historians, or at least historical accounts of the time period, beginning "classical antiquity" for Not!Earth.

This is probably his last turn.
*sobs* onii-chan

They're mostly around the waterways, and their primary use at this point would be a momentum break for chariot attacks. With watchtowers you can signal people to move and those out in the fields will have more time to get behind walls.
By "waterways" do you mean the rivers, or are we digging notably irrigation canals from the river outwards?

They figure the gods and spirits of others are real, but perhaps they are interpreting them incorrectly or are generally unworthy of worship.
Well.. that sounds very...

Cement Learning+Mysticism, keep it out of the shitshow that is Valleyhome right now.
Prestige is hard to get, Pilgrimage trade power is impossible to get. The art tech advance is remarkably tempting, though.

leverage the Hero and pray, lowlands are a mess also so don't count on the Thunderspeakers for anything. The People are generous, anyway. I have mild hopes of a crit and the Metal Workers just capitulate and absorb in. ;X
No change, rush out the Library and then switch to war footing. This is what the March is for, they can eat a turn of attacks.
