On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

@soulcake, a few questions about these.
  • Do we get to choose which [Simple] Research gains progress?
  • Are we able to gain progress to improving our traits and/or specialities by completing [Simple] Research?
  • Since they are progress and not actions, would it be correct to say that Snorri's traits do not proc?
1. Reply hazy. My original intent was no. May keep it at no. Will think on it more.
2. Yeah.
3. Yeah. Actions proc traits. Progress does not.

I think we should have Snorri design the dragon, given his superior skill with constructs.

At most we should have Karstah design a prototype to test for a combo

How would she possibly pull that off? It's not like she managed to steal Zharrgal when we last fought. Having KKR is a reason to March, not a reason not to.
Snorri is still a mortal dwarf at the end of the day - his grip can be broken, the item teleported out of his hand, or ripped away with the shadowy tendrils she used before.

As for Zharrgal she didn't really try because she had other things to worry about. KKR's sheer power gives her reason to try because its orders of magnitude more valuable and her calculus can change from "defeat or escape Snorri" to "take the hammer and escape". And as an Ulgu mage she's built for it.

I do not think Snori in that armor counts as anything remotely close to 'a mortal dwarf' and thanks to said hammer he now screws spells even harder.

I think it's an unforced error to have Karstah do the gronti design.

It's not a question of trust. Karstah has no particular skill in engineering runes, no relevant traits for making constructs, and generally significantly lower general skill levels.

She's just not particularly suitable for the job. It's better to have her do something else and have Snorri do the design.

This is going to be the capstone for our mega-project. We shouldn't try to cut corners like this. Particularly given we can only make accept legedanry grade items with our new hammer, so if our gronti doesn't r make the grade we'd waste a phenomenal amount of adamant.

I hadn't realized about that... Why are all the plans choosing Kartash to do this?

I am aware and also trust her on it.
Snorri will do a much better job (based on his traits alone) and I think the Dragon Golem that is going to be the the Capstone of Khazagar I think is quite important for Snorri to design it

I think you are right but also... do we really care that much about the dragon. Personally I'd rather put Snori's AP towards doing actions only he can take like the research. The dragon is at the end of the day a vanity project. So what if it will be 10% less killy than it could have been?

its all our adamant stockpile, if we gonna do something expensive, let's at least do this with a DON. why cut corners at the 11th hour?

I'm not sure how it works with building other people's designs. Karstah has no particular skill with gronti, and if could, for example, cap the quality of the end result.

Given that the Hammer means we can only accept Legendary grade end results for Difficult requests, that means that if we spend 192 bars of adamant on the gronti and it ends up not being ledendary we've probably wasted all that adamant.

That isn't certain, but we just don't know how this works and I don't particularly want to take the risk.

If it is a vanity project... Why the hell cut corners at the last moment?

In Dwarven Society impressive Vanity Projects are extremely important if only because it is the best way of getting a reputation...

Karstah is also the one who raised 3 dragons and has the low key dragon obsession. Yes Snorri is better than her with engineering and gronti in general but in this one particular case, where it's a dragon gronti, Karstah might be equal or better at it.

this is still snorri's rhuniversity, the dragon is the capstone to THAT. he designed literally everything else, why not his capstone as well?

I do not think she can be that bad at it given the materials and Snori's sheer skill as well as the hammer I think we can compensate.
