The pieces are set, and the plans are in motion. Are we comfortable spending one more update setting up some precautions for the inevitable political fallout afterwards (Hagoromo revenge schemes, all the conservative clans setting their attention on us, another "Asuma rubbing his temples" conversation, empowered progressives stirring up more controversy, etc) and then just timeskipping to judgement day?
We also need to do something to either pressure the Hyuga or make peace with them. Otherwise there's a chance they'll try to give the Hagoromo a loan at better rates than the Yakuza.

SC Math:
@eaglejarl @Velorien
This update we had 4 base XP and 2 bonus XP (and I still don't know if SC applies to bonus XP or not)
Keiko is the only person currently getting SC XP, presuming that nothing interrupted her FOOM schedule. Keiko gets one of the following bonuses, based on the following factors I have not heard word about:
  • +1.2 XP (4 x 0.3) (bonus XP doesn't apply, the Resolve training plan didn't go through)
  • +1.8 XP (6 x 0.3) (bonus XP does apply, Resolve training plan didn't go through)
  • +1.6 XP (4 x 0.4) (bonus XP doesn't apply, Resolve training plan went through)
  • +2.4 XP (6 x 0.4) (bonus XP does apply, Resolve training plan went through)
I apologize for having four separate possible values here, but I don't know if the bonus XP payouts are covered by SC or not (I don't think so but I'm not sure) and I don't know if Keiko is at Resolve 20 or Resolve 23, which changes the number of clones she can train with and thus the XP multiplier.

In addition, the last (and first) time I calculated these numbers is provided here:

To my knowledge, the SC bonus has not been applied to Keiko's character sheet.
Thank you for this. @Velorien went to bed a few minutes ago so I don't have answers for you.

Ponwog: Bonus XP does not apply, Resolve training had not gone through before (not enough time) but goes through after the end of 376. @Velorien ?

I also owe @Oneiros an answer on Canun's CP cost.

IIRC, the Hyuuga are short on liquid cash, but idk if that's changed since it was mentioned last. I'd like to suggest that we meet Hinata for tea first, to see what's up. That said, we should talk to Ino first to see what her take on Hinata is, then coordinate with Mari and Keiko to come up with a verbal plan of attack, a la the Minami trade network discussion.

Again, not nearly enough attention has been paid to the Hyuuga facet of this. Hinata will have foreseen direct action as the obvious alternative to capitulation.

Gaku cleared his throat hesitantly. "M'Lord, I had a few thoughts...?"
Gotta love Alfred Gaku!
Crap. She knew about his arrangement, about why the bodyguards always waited outside the gates.
This is amusing to me.

HAZOU: Ah shit, shoulda told Asuma about that fucking letter. Fuck.

HARU: Ah shit,I haven't told Hazou about that Yakuza shitshow. Fuck.

We should crack open a Miller Lite (For All Your Gaming Needs!) and tell him its cool lol, but maybe to mention stuff like this to us in the future.

There are two likely universes:

A) The Hyuuga are literally broke as far as liquid cash goes, since they promised Sasuke a huge fucking pile of money each month for some random shit Hiashi bought in exchange for his vote. Hiashi died, so they can no longer just funnel the Hokage salary to the Uchiha and must pay out of their own coffers.

B) Hinata told Sasuke to fuck off on that, since they don't have the money. Sasuke is understandably extremely pissed at them over this.

@Mari Which universe are we in?

Wow I really loved how this chapter turned out. I felt that while we certainly wanted things from the Yakuza, we approached it in a way that emphasized what we stood to gain from it. It felt good to have solid objective reasons that they should agree with this. I do think we need to be careful not to make the Yakuza into a vassal of ours unless we plan to turn them more legitimate - I don't know what the political ramificiations would be, but I'd hazard a guess that they would lean more killbox than a pat on the head from Asuma.

Also, Ino sidequest and Dogs sidequest are probably next in line after we finish chewing up the Hagoromo. I'm really looking forward to both of those.

Yep. In the second universe they both have the potential to be able to back the Hagoromo and the need to start gaining back social capital after ditching the Uchiha, so there's a good chance they'd offer the Hagoromo the loan.

Excellent point. Can we put this in the next plan?

Agreed. At most we could have him train with Mari as a "punishment." Team Uplift knows infiltration from Missing Nin days and their training with Mari, so assigning Haru to receive similar training from Mari would just be putting Haru on more-equal footing with the rest of Team Uplift (it would decrease the divide between them, since they'll have yet another thing in common).

We could even be open about it. Like "Yeah, I'm totally mad that you made the same mistake I did. Grr. Now go spend an hour or so a day with Mari for a week, learning cool stuff. Roar, fear my might."

Hazou: Oh no. A subordinate of mine took the time to acquire some extra guards for my people. What a tragedy. Someone. Please. Execute this reckless renegade before he destroys all that is good.

I think in both universes the Hyuuga are probably busy fixing their totally-a-crater-twice-over estate (likewise for the Hags, but probably less so) and such things don't come cheap :p

So we need to go bowling with Sasuke and mention how we'll be happy to take over the Hyugas obligations as we embody the will of fire and are more than happy to help our dear cousins.

We get the Uchiha closer to being a branch family again, drive off the Hyugas nominal allies (two at once, ouch. Hello progressivism)

We should figure out a joint venture between the Gouketsu-Uchiha-Inuzuka. The GUI. Maybe some kind of postal service company? The tower does message quests, obviously, but maybe we can offload some of that burden? Give poorer civvies a chance to send messages (obv have to pay the tower a tax for each of those we do since otherwise they'd be getting the business, presumably). Maybe long term clear a route to our allies in mist for communication?

Ok, well I'm trying to throw together an action plan, here's what I got so far: (also, this is my first time trying to put together an action plan, so criticisms/edits are more than welcome)

[X] Action plan: a pencil with no eraser
  • Meet with Ino.
    • Ask about Hinata
      • What is she like?
      • Anything we need to know if we are meeting with her?
    • Ask how Ino is doing? Does she need help with anything? (I don't want it to seem like we are only meeting her because we want info on Hinata)
  • Discuss with Mari and Keiko
    • What can we do to prepare for anything the Hyuuga's have planned?
      • What might they have planned?
      • What does the data packets from the election say about the Hyuuga, and about Hinata, specifically?
      • What do Jiraiya's notes say about the Hyuuga, and about Hinata, specifically?
    • How will Asuma react?
    • Discuss how and what to talk about with Hinata
      • Try to figure out how the Hyuuga will react to us moving against the Hagoromo?
      • Is there some way to improve relations between the Gouketsu and the Hyuuga?
        • some kind of peace offering?
      • Using what we know from our collected data, make a dialogue tree covering possible conversational topics, a la the Minami deal
        • Run several practice sessions with Mari to record them into the IN until Mari is satisfied with the results
    • Ask Mari to look into the Hyuuga and Uchiha deal
      • Are the Hyuuga still honoring it?
      • How can we use this to better our relations with the Uchiha?
  • Meet with Hinata
    • Do what we decided upon with Mari and Keiko
Is that too long of a plan? Anything else we need to talk to Ino/Mari/Keiko/Hinata about?

Again, this was just a few ideas I threw together from what I've seen other people discussing, and is very open to edits, so please give feedback or suggestions

edit: removed Mari Uplift part

Personally, (as a member of the MfD hivemind, a voter, and as a simple reader of the story) I don't give a flying fuck about the Hagoromo's pride. They've harmed Keiko, Hazou's sister in heart, name, and law. They've harmed Shikamaru, Hazou's brother-in-law, peer, and friend. They've even harmed Mari --Hazou's mother, Hazou's older sister, Hazou's mentor and wise authoritative figure --by their declaration. Not to mention the innumerable denizens of the Leaf, who have the gall to be born as "nontraditional" (in open or in secret), who were just told that by their religious leaders that they, personally, are a slow poison that will cripple and kill their motherland, their country of birth, and their home.

Personally, I don't care that much about their pride as well. It's just that they do care about their pride, and allowing them to save it while conceding to our demands can limit the damage the infighting can cause. I have no doubt they will be fighting back, probably using their reputation against ours. A foreigner clan, trying to subvert the might of Leaf by destroying and subverting the traditions that made Leaf the most powerful ninja village? The speech almost writes itself.

We need to achieve three points:
a) stop them from excluding Goketsu from any ceremonies
b) make them rethink their position on same-sex relationships
c) protect our clan from damages including loss of face
I believe those points are easier to achieve if we allow Hagoromo to save their pride (by accepting our half-hearted "we're sorry you feel that way" apology) than if we're aiming at an unconditional surrender.

Has us trying to figure out any ways the Hyuga might try to strike back. Looks pretty good.

      • Hazou has civilian/clanless
      • Keiko has her pursuit of equal rights for "nontraditional" relationships
      • Kagome is taking an interest in education, in his own way
        • Conditional: if this seems to make Mari unsure about her place in our lives, comfort and reassure her accordingly.
      • What's your Personal Uplift?
        • Conditional: If Mari is agreeable to the topic, but also unsure of her personal Uplift goals, gently suggest gender equality or a reformation of how Leaf handles sexual assault crimes as possible Uplift pursuits
      • Regardless of her answer, gently remind her that she has the full support and aid of Team Uplift to call upon --personal, emotional, military, and financial.

(Thank you @RandomOTP for the Mari part at the end)

Is that too long of a plan? Would it be best to save the Mari uplift stuff for another update? Anything else we need to talk to Ino/Mari/Keiko/Hinata about?

Again, this was just a few ideas I threw together from what I've seen other people discussing, and is very open to edits, so please give feedback or suggestions

Live the plan, it's a good one ^.^

I'll write up possible suggestions later, but IIRC, Mari got data packets on everyone important back during the election arc, right? Hinata should be included in that, and since Hinata was the Hyuuga heiress at the time, Jiraiya's notes should also have stuff about her too (even if it might not be as detailed as what it has about Hiashi).

Still, between Mari and Jiraiya's notes, there's should be enough info/blackmail on the Hyuuga that we can coordinate easily.

I wonder if we have Hazou act out possible conversations beforehand, under Mari's guidance (and record it in the IN), if Hazou could then replay those bits of dialogue in the conversation with Hinata. We know that Hazou is able to write down info to remember it that way (missing nin days), that he can replay smiles and gestures, and IIRC, the chapter where Hazou tells Mari about the IN mentions that he can record/replay words, too. Besides, we know that Hazou's able to comie up with entire dialogue trees and then implement them accordingly (as per Minami trade deal).

That and also just generally trying to see if we can figure out how they are going to retaliate was my understanding of why we are talking to her.
Hinata has been in this game for far longer than us; her social scores are gonna beat ours. Why, therefore, is the plan of attack to suss her out speaking with her?

Why are people talking about trying to let the Hags save face? They should essentially not exist by the time we are done with them

Why are we talking to Hinata?
I think it's mostly to gauge it they're going to be a pain in our neck after the Hagoromo are ash irrelevant. Also, figuring out why they sicced the Hag on us at all... that was rather rude and unwarranted, especially since it seems that Hinata was already trying to convince Yuno to join the Hyuuga in private.

Some suggestions, in blue? Mentioned the data that we might have on the Hyuuga and that we should use it as a resource. Mentioned using the IN to practice possible conversational topics. Swapped the order of the Mari talk and the Hinata talk, since we'd be in the same room with Mari during the dry runs anyway. I'd rather go into specifics of possible conversational topics that Hinata might bring up (save some work for the QMs), but we-the-hivemind don't actually know all that much about Hinata, whereas Hazou-the-character knows Hinata's reputation and has several info-dumps on her.

Anywho, feel free to implement or ignore my advice as you want, or even take it and alter it to your own wants. Believe me, I know that my suggestions aren't great for word count (or even all that great to begin with) so I won't be offended.

edit:
Why are people talking about trying to let the Hags save face? They should essentially not exist by the time we are done with them
I think they're just worried about the Hags doing something stupid and desperate, like invading our clan compound at night (Kagome's Defenses) instead of just admitting they bit off more than they could chew. I'm still down for turning them into political and financial nobodies, since we're doing our best not to hurt the affiliates.
