On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] My Home: The smell of baking stone bread, the cheer of dwarfs working hard and coming together. It is what pushes you forward. Great weapons to arm them, great armour to gird them, great knowledge to teach them, great stories to tell them. The reason no elder will ever tell their juniors why they tolerate their faffing nonsense.

and as such, I believe it fitting that I contribute to the protection of my future kin. So it is that I am seeking to commission your services in the making of two finely made cloaks, one for father and one for son, to be part of the Bridal Dowry that will accompany the rest of Ungor's wealth. Further, I am also putting forward another commission for your perusal, that of an amulet for Orra, daughter of Otrek and Girda, as a reminder of her home to be done at any time.
I think that we might have to turn down at least one commission. Better to not take it then to half ass it.
For now we've only got 3 requests. We have an idea there will be 2 more coming somewhat soon, but for now we just have the 2 cloaks for Otrek and his son. Then an amulet for Orra.

Which speaking, needs to remind her of home. So maybe research Silver Wutroth and the Firestone's first. See if we can make a pendant using resources local to our Hold so that whenever she looks at it she will always know where she came from.

No point in working if it doesn't benefit the dwarves.

Also, people are treating the armor request as if it were as time sensitive as the Cloaks: The Cloaks are meant to be part of the dowry that King Stonehammer will pay to Otrek for his daughter's hand, which is why they need to be ready before the wedding.
While it's nice to have the King and Prince armored up before the incursion hits, there isn't an actual time limit. The King hasn't even made the request, we don't need to be chomping at the bit to complete it already.
As to making the armors out of Adamant and finishing them within 4 turns: we need to finish the next step of the Rune Metal first, and want to the griffon request. Haven't done the Math, but that leaves very little breathing room

We can pretty easily do both, two actions finishes the griffin and 3 actions this coming turn and three more the next finishes rune metal. Assuming there isn't a 5th part to metal then that leaves us two whole turns to do both the armors and the cloaks.

So... Snorri's grandad was called Draus, and he named two of his sons Klaus and Kraus. Not a man burdened with an excess of imagination, it seems. Now I kinda want the rest clan Winterhearth to come visit, just so we can find out if ole Draus stuck with his preferred theme all the way through. "Ah, Snerra, let me introduce you to your granduncles: Kraus, Knaus, Kpaus and Deadmau5"

This should also be when we make the trinket for Orra. It is supposed to remind her of home and if she's going to get married 4 turns from now chances are she'll be moving to a new hold as well. Again, I'd prefer to research the Firestone's at least before making it. They will be a local specialty for our hold and would definitely remind her of home.

Here's hoping they hold runes well so we can make her some kind of protection amulet out of it, just in case. Because her home is very well defended you know? Make sure she remembers that aspect of it all the time too.

[X] My Work: You cannot deny there is a thrill to being a Runelord, to the crafting to the research to the simple act of teaching. There is always more to learn, to explore and discover and pass on. Every experience, every action is always ripe for opportunities to improve and discover. If you could help it, you'd be learning and exploring until the world itself came undone.

I've really enjoyed the teaching/apprentice interactions and I think that Snorri is the type of person who connects strongly with just a few people close to him and not a nebulous community. As such, the only choice I see yhat would be IC is

Snorri is too closely bound to his hold, people and family for him to choose work over them.

I think we might be overestimating the number of actions these commission's are going to take, shouldn't 5 (total, not unmodified) actions be enough for a paired set of royal quality items with a good amount of overflow?

If you're treating a paired set as like two armors. It'd take three actions to do them more then since its should be around one to decide the runes on both armors, then two to actually make them. Which can be done in a single turn with two actions. Three actions completes it and gives two overflow. Five actions into it would produce five actions worth of overflow on it.

It'll never win, but I feel compelled to make Snorri a character rather than a collection of virtues SV likes.

When considering things like the Rune of Dismay, we should remember that with the exception of trolls because of a specific trait Snorri has, most meaningful enemies will laugh it off.

By "5 actions (total, not unmodified)" I meant "spend 3 actions which, modified, becomes 5".

To be honest, I kind of think doing 2 to 5 actions solely "choosing what runes to put on things" is a bit overkill, like, Trollslayer needed it, but I don't know if it's a universal requirement for difficult requests.

It should be, especially when it's meant for a King and a Prince of our own hold.

It's a hard one. Having completed the next stage of Adamant would allow us to make very impressive armour, made from the same material as Grimnir Himself's. The problem is that it's expensive in terms that of actions, and might require more actions to refine enough adamant for two suits or armour, which competes with the actions we need to take to design and create the runes themselves.

The thing is, though, we could be making 5 separate pieces; if each one needs it's own action for deciding what runes go on it (as in, 5 '1 action' actions), then we'd be basically spending an entire decade choosing 5 master runes and 10 standard runes.

I'm not saying that we should do without 'deciding' actions, I'm saying 5 separate ones is a bit much, especially when it looks like we're going to be making the two cloaks and amulet to be a set, and the two armours a separate one.

Which is to say, I'd be happy with 2 actions (one that takes 2, and one that takes 3) to decide what we're putting on them, because then we'd be able to leverage our productivity for it.
