On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

More like we can't make a Banner in time at all, especially with the enthusiasm for Marching right now, so might as well set up for experimentation after we come back home. Poke your Matrimonial Displeasure combo and see what happens is a good project while poking other stuff like the Griffon work and Research like Silverwood can be done before it if we really want to. It'd be easy too. Grab that research, take part one of the request, slap your Rune set on and do part 2 of a Higher Standard the following turn.
Assuming Silverwood isn't a chain of course @EVA-Saiyajin. If it is that's sort of an "aw fuck" moment given the delay on actually making the Banner, though its not toooo bad since its just an idea Snorri had on his own with no client.

[X] Plan To War! To War! With an Order To

A third axe?

Hm...the one he took with him, the one he gave to Morgrim, and another he left behind to be eventually found by Gotrek?

I mean, Slayer suggests he reached through time and space to get the axe he had after Thorgrim died, so...little confusing. He is typically depicted with two axes, after all.

The real question now is how was the armor made? Did the ancestors find some pure adamant or did they make it themself (probably the latter but you never know) and if so why isn't it more well known.
Maybe the production process is extremely slow or the method was only recently discovered or maybe we just didn't have access to the right circles
I'm not even considering the possibility of it being purposedly hidden completely as it would make no sense especially for Dawi that are far more comunnally minded than elves or humans
Dwarves are famously secretive.
Smiths are famously secretive.
Runesmiths are infamously secretive.
Ancestors don't tend to say a lot.

A dwarf ancestor runesmith wouldn't tell anyone anything unless it was necessary. And then maybe if they had earned it.

That is pretty weird yeah.

Another thing that I really like about Grimnir's description is this bit:
As you get closer you can begin to make out ever more detail, the depictions of battle engraved on his chest plate, the sagas sung in his name etched so finely and such a small size that they appear like scales on him.
The idea of him having a cladding of sagas etched like scales upon his armor easily translates to a mental image of like a warrior out of a saga who can take other shapes in their rage. Its not really directly connected to Grimnir himself, but its something seen in other warrior divinities IRL so such a detail existing on him crosses over my image of Grimnir with those other warrior deities.

Really kinda sells the whole divine incarnation thing for me @soulcake.

Feels like a copout answer but my default is "Thungni probably did it". If anyone knows how to make Adamant it'd be Thungni and Smednir, so for all we know it might of been a joint project between them both.

Smednir made the Adamant and shaped it into the armour and Thungni runed it for Grimnir. A true collaboration between the Ancestor Gods to kit out the Ancestor God that would defend their people.

Really? Because all it did was give me Moana flashbacks.

Mhmm! The description as The Mountain is a good deal of backing behind that detail in my mind. They tie and blend together nicely in my image of Grimnir as a divinity.

Also now that we've actually seen him, if we do live to WHF modern times of the mid 2500s IC and some human speculates the Ancestor Gods weren't real we have a huge body of reason to cackle at their foolishness. Snorri's personally met the beings the sillies are talking about!

I was thinking more us becoming like Bjorn the Fell-Handed, with every new generation wanting to hear about the Ancestor Gods. Except Snorri is happy to make children happy, and thus bestow tales of when he met and fought with Grimnir as opposed to annoyed.

I bet it's no coincidence we just happened to pick the right name of Adamant. There may be others, obviously, more colloquial depending on location, species, and language, but this is probably some sort of memetic-Warp function tied to the Glittering Realm.

--

It's kind of odd thinking of Grimnir pre-Slayer as looking like a super duper longbeard and not, well, super-Gotrek in terms of appearance.

It is not Grimnir's fault that those beardlings chose to copy his look from when he had the emo phase.

  • [X] Plan Khazukan Kazakit-ha
-[X] March: Grimnir the Valiant calls, who are you to not answer? Campaign with the Great Throng as it marches through the region. For the next ten years you will walk amongst the greatest examples of your people, partaking in the campaigns. Smiting enemies and perhaps even discussing things with a few dwarfs while you're at it. [Cost: 4 actions] Interlude Turns. These are not battle turns, Interlude Turns will be a series of updates happening over the decade, you get one choice an interlude turn. The number of Interlude turns = your unaltered total actions (which is 5)
    --[X] 4 Actions
-[X] [Simple] Torques A Plenty: Elder Brokk has asked you specifically to create a set of Runic Torques, all meant to facilitate proper communication between what is clearly an avian and a dwarf. You remember Master Yorri told you about the time he bargained a few feathers off a Great Eagle. He never told you how, but you remember being taught a few odd runes in your past, just have to figure out which combination worked for Master Yorri. Maybe his book has something? Worst come to worst you could send a letter to the Dwarf. [Cost: 3 Actions] Productivity Like No Other will proc.
    --[X] 1 Apprentice Action

-[X] Teach your apprentice. [Cost: 1 Action] Locked in for 1 turn.
-[X] [Simple] Apprentice work: your not that young, but still young, charges are now of an age you feel it acceptable for them to do a bit of exploration. Send your apprentices out into the hold and pick up a few tasks from whoever offers it to them. Give them a bit of experience for their upcoming task as journeymen and let them build a reputation in the hold. You'll of course critique their work and use it as a learning experience as any good master ought to. [Cost: variable apprentice actions.] Roll for usefulness. 1 Roll per apprentice action.

[X] The Rune Metal Pt. 4: You've made Adamant, a form of Gromril harder and stronger than any you've ever seen. The metal abhors magic, even that of Runes to some extent, making it difficult to inscribe on the metal itself. You need to find a way to make this in a less explosive fashion, and maybe figure out what exactly its properties are.[Cost: 8 actions] Student of the Odd and Mind for Metal will proc.

As you get closer you can begin to make out ever more detail, the depictions of battle engraved on his chest plate, the sagas sung in his name etched so finely and such a small size that they appear like scales on him. The blurry form of the Runes, ones of such complexity and power that only Thungni himself could have crafted them, glowing on his equipment befuddle even you. Their might and intricacy make you feel like a beardling in comparison.

(Roll, Grimnir Looks at your Defences: 62 +20[A Honed Mind] =82. DC 70, 80, 90)
I wonder how possible it is for Snorri to also get a trait like A Honed Mind as he ages, growing out of the Really Old Grumbler bonus. Effectively it would just be having a lesser form of Really Old Grumbler, applied to situations beyond battle which would still have the full bonus.

So the only difference between the first two plans is whether we order runic materials or not.

Come on people, we do need that oathgold.

I imagine that trait would be different or have a higher bonus if Grimnir had conducted an inspection as opposed to looking at them from just outside with his divine foresight.
