On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] Plan Finishing up and Digging In
- [X] Expanding the Workshop, Defense: 1 action
- [X] [Simple] Rune. Those. Halls!: 2 actions
- [X] The Rune Metal: 1 action
- [X] Dragon's Blood

We're not exactly in a rush to finish defensive prep on our workshop , we'll be waiting at least one turn after this for the dragon's blood to arrive.
And I want to get started on Rune Metal research asap because we have such ready access to it.

Oh dip, Im a moron, I was supposed to ADD the talismanic and engineering rule to the original description of student of the odd. sorry about that one folks.

[X] Plan Defense and Request

Man, all our research actions will take forever to get through, plus Master Yorri's map is 10 actions worth itself. If it wasn't so important to our character's sense of security I'd be chomping at the bit to get started on some of these, but as-is it's just not right to neglect setting up a properly over-fortified home.

Snorri's not in the business of stalking his apprentices to smack them with a troll tongue while they're out drinking with friends.

Some would say he's soft because of it, but they don't know as he does.

He has no qualms about pocket gravel during standard training however.
A clear sign that things just aren't as good as they used to be. There used to be standards, you know, not like these days. As if you cease to be a runesmith just because you stopped paying attention. Back in the day, we went to bed with the tongue and we woke up with the tongue, and liked it that way. But these days, even beadlings think they know better. No respect for tradition anymore. *grumble grumble*

Welcome to the runelords dilemma, and why a goodly amount disappear into their shops for centuries/forever

If experienced runelords collaborated together on research rather than soloing everything... but then we're out north by ourselves, so we don't have that option. Not to mention our master was a crazy hermit. Eh, no use contemplating a past that never happened.

The two researches we can do with known action totals can be done in two turns if we do it properly. So there is that. I am also hopefully that we can find a way to unlock more actions (maybe a runic talisman of endurance or something)

God that list of order tiers puts the decline of the runesmiths into some freaking perspective.

ORDERS!
I am now introducing the last mechanic you guys should see in a while. Ordering supplies! Orders thankfully are pretty straightforward. If it's a material specific to a strong rune you need for a request or rune you're experimenting with I will note it in the cost, and it will consequently appear in the orders section of the turn/whenever you realize you'll need it.

Now you may ask, can we get it ourselves? Yes! You can totally go get it yourself, should you know a source for the stuff nearby. As the elder ice wyrm Kraka Drakk was named after is long dead and its materials long since used to make other shiny cool things, you can't find any natively in such a remote hold. Or well, YOU don't know of any drakki lurking about.

Order length is determined by two main things. Your circumstances, and the rarity of the item. In my master chart I've got a few things listed down as guidelines, but for your sake know there are only 4 tiers of rarity when ordering.

Tier 1: Mundane: bog-standard materials, stuff you don't have to worry about specifically getting at your age and level of wealth. Really you won't ever see these materials barring truly exceptional circumstances, but it's good to have a baseline.
Tier 2: Uncommon: This is specialist stuff, and the majority of orders will be this tier most likely, dragon's blood counts here and so does Gromril, but as you'll note. You rolled well and got a natural seam of the stuff so you don't worry about it. Will otherwise take 1-2 turns to arrive depending on the circumstances of your hold. Before you ask, yes I would've waived the dragon blood fee if you had chosen that other deed at the beginning.
Tier 3: Rare stuff: Often refined uncommon materials or hard to come by stuff. Pure Gromril, for instance, requires a master black/runesmith with a very specific set of gear. This will take 2- 4 turns to arrive. Less time if you're near a place like Karak Azul or immediately(within the turn, even though it would take years in-game time) if you have the native production here. Brightstone, Silverite or Ithilmar and stuff at that level of scarcity would count in this territory.
Tier 4: Truly Rare: This is rare material taken up 10 notches. Things like the blood of an Elder Wyrm(Star or Moon Dragon), The Claw of a Dragon Ogre Shaggoth, Carnosaur's Bilesac, stuff like that. It's gonna be 3 turns minimum for this stuff. Getting some examples this material immediately would require burning favours.
Everything above Uncommon? Runelords of the age of reclamation just don't have it. And the uncommon stuff is incredibly precious.

Also our lil rolly pollies are f'kin cute and I can't wait to see their specialities in turn 4. I'm currently laying down bets that Fjolla is heading for Talismans and Dolgi Engineering out of our specialties just given how they're being presented and what they're being shown doing.

It'll be on turn 3, Im counting the first turn.

From behind their hunched forms you grin, a quiet pride suffusing you. Only ten years into the apprenticeship and already on to the screecher. Your previous apprentices averaged at about twenty years before you felt comfortable releasing that particular bit of horror. If these two kept it up, you'd finally feel comfortable letting them inscribe a true Rune soon enough.

Oh hey, we've already had several sets of apprentices before!

Too bad "productivity like no other" does not proc on these actions. Would have been interesting to see how they overflow.

So do we need to burn favor for these types of orders, or does it just take a while to get the supplies to us?

Just takes a while. Favour is spent on truly tough stuff you see. S'difficult to show you how the system itself works right now since, as a runelord, you're in a position where you dont Have to work to get stuff or earn standing from dwarfs. But its a useful system once you meet outside polities or characters where even your beard and standing mean little. Like a member of the Burudin for instance.

[X] Plan Defense and Request
Most likely Grudges because at the moment we don't appear to have any.
Seems more likely that at the peak of Dwarf civilization theres no rush to resolve grudges. Either you talk it out, you bargain it out, or if its an external force or unreasonable fool you apply the weight of your civilization to the problem and smoosh it.

Grudges wouldn't be a big problem if they could be confident in resolving them!
