"First off," Hazō said, "we've had a messenger from the Tower. Turns out before we left for Mist, Jiraiya sent in an application for an extended sealing license. In addition to the existing broad license, we can sell to the Tower, and only to the Tower…"

He took a deep breath.

"Banshee Slayers Earbusters Earth Domes Five Seal Barriers Force Walls Goo Bombs Lesser Barrier Formations Variant Storage Scrolls to be Evaluated on an Individual Basis at the Time of Submission Silence Mines Tunneller's Friends! Also Vibrator Seals, listed under that name because Jiraiya.

"The list is to be kept confidential on both Gōketsu and Tower sides so no one automatically knows what seals we can make. He's also personally signed off on our certification as Leaf's head sealmaster, skipping the need for an inspection to validate that we're good enough to safely mass-produce advanced seals. Not that there would be any risk of such an inspector failing us for any reason coughHyūgacough, but this way we're the most certified sealmasters in all of Leaf."

Kei nodded. "In other words, you will continue to risk unimaginable death and destruction to us all, as triggered by some combination of ill fortune and personal incompetence, but now you will be consistently remunerated for it. I approve.

"I do also note that Kagome's personal seals are not listed."

"I noticed that. Anyway, it's money. Without knowing the state of the market, I have no idea how much it'll get us—Keiko, get on that when you have the chance—but it's a stable income stream for as long as Leaf needs seals."
@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail Does Hazou have this information now (specifically, how much each seal is worth)? Alternatively (and to save on your spoons), could we get the money we'd be making for selling seals to the tower, assuming we only made seals that were worth the most per unit time?

... You know what Clan Gouketsu seriously needs? Civilians.

I'm not even kidding. Even the Hyuuga have a ton of civilian lackeys, and frankly that just makes us look bad. Mari is going down the right path by acquiring more trade connections with civilian merchants, but we ought to be doing more to acquire loyal people who aren't ninja.

Seriously. If anti-civilian discrimination is as strong as it looks like, there are going to be market failures happening where extremely competent civilian experts have exactly zero Clan backing. This is the same situation that created the stereotype of "black people are good at basketball" - they aren't particularly, it's just that nobody was willing to recruit black people to play basketball. When someone finally considered the option, they got an amazingly good team practically free.

Yeah, I strongly agree with this. You had me at "market failure".

I have a friend who did econ who could help look over our plans if we decide to do this :)

What level of econ? I'm far from an economist but I AM in my senior year of being an econ major.

Please note edit to infopost above. We may have made a conversion error. That means the numbers listed might be accurate or might be off by a factor of 10 in either direction. Apologies for the mistake, we're sorting it out now.

Obligatory: Yes.

Less memey: So far as I'm aware, there is no impetus among the QMs to fiat prevent getting around the antimeme.

First: thank you for allowing us to perhaps get around the antimeme if we can manage it. Fun spooky stuff! :)

Second (fielding to @OliWhail as well): how much of our ~400k ryo gambling winnings did we retain? Was that factored into things?

@OliWhail @eaglejarl @Velorien Could you clarify how the marriage contract works? I was under the impression at first that Keiko was given two options -- one that led to her favoring the Nara strongly and no longer being Goketsu, and one that led to her being an equal member of each, and chose the latter.

*400,000. We literally have 2.5 months payment saved up, after that...welp.

.....God damn it Keiko

Ok so we're starting to build up a market for our seals so that's good, and Kagome will probably do a good job taking Keiko's place with watching our money since he's a really smart guy. He'll just need some time to study up but that's fine.

How fast could we feasibly get Noburi ready if we had him drop his other tasks and focused fully on learning summoning? Ideally he becomes the toad summoner and they accept the same deal Keiko made with the pangolins, but even if that all worked out fine it will still take quite a bit of time right?

We could also pick up some missions but I'm not sure if some missions between three chunin will be enough to keep an entire compound afloat.

Without the pangolin gold, will the Goketsu to be able to act as a patron to the growing merchant network Hazo wanted? That's something that needs looking into.

For reference:
"If you marry into the clan, you will formally hold the same rights, but in practice you will be forced to work harder to prove your trustworthiness, and this will delay your advancement, as well as your acceptance by the less welcoming elements.

"Legally you will be deemed to belong to both Jiraiya's clan and the Nara Clan. This is a stressful position to occupy, and failure will lead to dire consequences. Since you will be adopted into Jiraiya's clan first, your Mori affiliation will be revoked at that stage."

We did a hunting mission that netted us enough income to pay expenses for one week?

We once played in a casino, which netted us enough income to pay expenses for two and a half months — equivalent to our entire current savings, in fact.

@Lailoken is once again proven right: we should have ignored the tournament altogether and just gambled our entire stay in Mist. It's not like the political points we earned Jiraiya even matter now that he's dead.

Balls.

Okay, guys I have the solution: Ask the Oracle.

@Lailoken how do we fix the Great Gouketsu Finance crisis? Save us!

No? I believe we earned something like 200K ryo?

"Nine hundred and sixteen thousand, four hundred and thirty-six ryō,"
@Lailoken how do we fix the Great Gouketsu Finance crisis? Save us!
Nah, it's no use. We can't even break the antimeme around Henge yet, and you're already trying to take on the Lailoken one? We need to practice on the small fry first.

We gambled the one night and got 900k ryo. Go check the chapter. We had to pay half that to the Yakuza and give whatshisface a cut, otherwise we would've gotten more.

After the yak cut:

"That's after his cut, obviously. Before the fifty percent we owe to the Yakuza, though. That leaves us four hundred and fifty-eight thousand, two hundred and eighteen ryō."

So, one month of runway.

Sure the point is that we made a fuckton of money in one night and we should have listened to Lailoken.

Our total income there was >900k , as stated.

Our final net take home was over 400k, not 200k, as you stated.

Alright, that's our financial situation solved if we can just make bank by taking an extended mission and stopping by Tanzaku Gai or Otafuki Gai to gamble shit.

This was gambling during the chunin exams though.

If the Olympics were held in Vegas, thats the sort of traffic boost you'd get comparatively speaking.
