[X] The Sensible Approach

Asking J for info, some Team bonding, yeah this works too.

Started this plan then realized @Roomba already did something like it, so I stole his Keiko/Noburi section after writing what I think is a more sensible approach to the whole Jounin aura / KI buisiness.

@Roomba I'm onboard with Ami shenanigans but I think approaching Keiko as you have in your plan is ill-advised. I don't have too much time to go into this atm but the short version is I think this is both the wrong time and wrong approach with Keiko specifically.

[X] The Sensible Approach
  • Ask Jiraiya specifically about the Jounin aura
  • In his experience specifically, under what conditions do people start developing this?
  • Is this something that could be intentionally cultivated?
    • It'd be neat if Hazou could learn to project something that's almost exactly opposite of Killing Intent. A desire to protect, defend, support, and keep safe.
    • Don't laugh! This is serious. Remind him of how we first felt met Sarutobi. He was the ideals of Leaf personified.
  • Would he be willing to help us train resistence to killing intent via exposure therapy? Would this even help?
    • If we could manage to resist the full force of a Kage on this front, some random jounin would be small beans, and we'd have nothing to fear from Keiko our peers.
    • MAYBE ADD FUZZY FEELGOOD STUFF HERE
  • Bond with Keiko and Noburi:
  • It is readily apparent that Hazou has less skill with relationships than a fish.
  • To rectify this, we would like to create a post-interaction survey to have individuals fill out, to get feedback on the quality of social interaction.
  • Hazou makes the above suggestion in his most serious tone, and attempts to argue in favor of it seriously.
  • He uses all of his Deceit to push this joke as far as he can.
  • With any downtime, scribe more seals.

How about this mostly rewording:?

  • Ask Jiraiya about the Jounin aura
  • Under what conditions do people start developing this?
  • Is this something that could be intentionally cultivated?
    • In particular, we know it's not always fear based, like Sarutobi. How do we achieve that?
  • Would he be willing to help us train resistence to killing intent via exposure therapy? Would this even help?
    • It if helps, could he help us by unveiling part of his Killing Intent, to see how much we can bear?

We really should not even suggest full KI of a kage could be used on us. At best it gives J a laugh. Also more conceretly ask for his help by exposure. And shorter!

Also do we skip to tournament after this?

Tournament skipping is probably happening regardless. I dont think we can fit anything but one night in on the way there before we get back to Mist.

@Vecht I'm not sure how many words you have, but could you ask Jiraiya about our competitors in the tournament? I can help with word count if needed.

I will have time to implement any feedback tonight, in about 5-6 hours. Wordcount optimizations are appreciated. If someone else has more time/availability feel free to fork and I'll also vote for it later.

Suggestions/adendums to the fuzzyfeelgood section also appreciated.

@Roomba I am on board in general as well with regards to meeting and talking to Ami but there are two points that I see as issues:

The first is that we have little privacy while traveling due to the Hyuuga, since it's a reasonable guess that we are staying close to each other for protection. Asking Jiraiya to use his KI on route is similarly iffy but has the safeguard of him being able to just shut us down and tell us to do it later if it's an issue.

The second point is that, timing aside, asking Keiko directly probably wouldn't work. I'd be open to do so as part of another plan with better timing/privacy just to try it but I think there is a better way to get a foot in with regards to meeting Ami, one that I had wanted to see before we left Mist: spending time as a group with our ex-clans. If we can somehow manage to get a dinner invite to the Mori compound we are bound to run into Ami because she, too, has to be curious about our group and would likely want to see if we are capable of supporting Keiko.

But again, asking Keiko to get us an invite or even accept it by herself is likely not going to work. However if this were part of meeting the Kurosawa, Wakahisa and then Mori in subsequent nights it could work. We could have Hazou act like he doesn't want to see the Kurosawa himself (probably not much acting required) but that he is making the sacrifice so Noburi won't feel bad for wanting to see his sisters and Keiko might not be immune to social cues like reciprocity.

And if that doesn't work, maybe we can bring up the point to Jiraiya and argue that it might be a good thing for our clan/Leaf if we are good in standing with our old clans to help the alliance along so he accepts/organizes these dinners himself with the respective clan heads.

Cool, I'm very interested in your proposed alternative.

Just FYI, the fuzzy feelgood stuff I wrote wasn't really for the purpose of actually resisting Jiraiya's presence. It was a way for Hazou to better understand his own beliefs. I know you think epiphanies count for little, and consistent action wins the game, but Hazou has the opposite problem. He already spends a lot of time daily working towards his goals; but his understanding of said goals is fairly shallow and consists of a bunch of platitudes about civilians and peace. I was hoping to focus and drill down to the core of what keeps Hazou going, and continue building on that later.

My point is, the fuzzy feelgood stuff should be an opportunity for character development first and foremost if you do include it.

That sounds like it could work. The main issue I have with it is that there's a lot of steps between where we are now and where we'd maybe get an opportunity to talk to Ami in private. And for each of these steps, we'd need to convince both Keiko and the hivemind to go along with it. Sounds pretty tough. I tend to prefer simple plans with few moving parts, but maybe that's not an option here.

YES.
OH GOD YES.
It was funny at first, this stuff about beating Keiko up.
But it started being less and less funny.

I am open to collussion on this front if concessions can be made as far as devoting effort/votes/time to things I'd like to do. Likewise, I believe the same is true for many others.

@Vecht

Maybe sneak in a probing question to Jiraiya about whether it's a good idea to push for closer bonds between us and our ex-clans via clan dinners (to help the Leaf-Mist Alliance along)? Gotta make sure we ask him in private though, out of earshot of Nobby, Keiko and the other clan heads.

I leave you people alone for two hours, and what do I come back to find? Everyone voting for a plan titled "The Sensible Approach". Why would you do this to me?

Maybe include something like 'If Jiraiya approves, give it a try now? Be strong, Hazou.' I think the QMs would enjoy writing that scene, and I would enjoy reading it, and even without going full memetic shounen it would still be productive towards our goals on that front.

Side Project Order of Operations: Because we have way too many to easily keep track of.
  1. Collaborate with Mist Yakuza to cheat foreigners.
  2. Kabuto Research Proposal
  3. Create (Expand? Codify?) till'n'fill/chakra beast extermination mission fund.
  4. Get other combat seals approved
  5. Get a secretary

I'll keep a link to this handy so I can keep track of what we should be doing next when we have spare time. If anyone has anything that we've been meaning to do but I forgot to list, or if you disagree with the priority I've placed them in, please speak up!

We don't have a business project to generate revenue. I believe one of our proposal is to generate salt.

Also, I would like to see effort to expand the glassworking industry and telescopes. Every clan has one (apparently), but it's not cheap enough to bring down its cost. We probably want to help glassworkers and telescope makers migrate.

While I like the added detail in asking Jiraiya questions, this is boring. Projecting love and reassurance at Keiko would make for a much more interesting update, and is basically harmless. It's not going to backfire horribly, just be entertaining.

In any event we /NEED/ to ask Jiraiya for intelligence on the competition. Now, before things start while we still have a small time to make any necessary special preparations for dealing with specific enemy powers. If you really want to be boring and sensible at least add that much.
