On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Kinda sad because Heat Vision feels like the better option on the face of it, but Dark Vision's focus on Hysh probably means it's the better path for pure light, which is what would be best for my idea of open-air light-based communication for that Challenge.

We can likely develop the other rune using the Utility branch of the research path.

You had the basis for two very practical Runes. One that allowed a Dwarf to see in very low light conditions, and another to let a Dwarf see heat sources. Both had applications, and a part of you wants to combine both into one Rune at some point, but for now you only managed to complete the—

This meme's been rattling around in my brain since I saw this, so even if if doesn't win, here:

Stats:
[Supreme+ Morale, Supreme Endurance, High+ Attack, Incredible Defence, Below Average Movement]
I know you're prepping for turn 58 @soulcake but some folks were wondering if Azrilzhufgotten should improve these stats, especially movement. If you're saving that till turn 58 lands, don't mind me.

[X] [Light] Rune of Heat Vision

I imagine that in the future, when we have several types of vision runes, we'll be making something to switch between a bunch of rune-etched lenses. Not everyone can have an eye that they can switch out, and rangers would love goggles/binoculars with that ability.

My thinking was that it'll be a small handheld telescope with individually runed lens attachments that can be swapped in and out depending on need/use for Master Rangers.

Binoculars might be better on the higher end of functionality, but it'll be bulkier, at higher risks of damage, and double the lenses needed too (in material size, if nothing else). Better to keep it at the lower end of cost as a telescope both for ease of access and use.

Could also do the classic of a snow-visor with lens plates that can be pulled out and interchanged.

Snow visors could work. It'd take much less material and if the basic zoom function is provided by a runic lens too, no need to have it be telescopic (they'll still likely bring a telescope though, because redundancy).

The main hurdle I see would be the issue of if runesmiths would agree to create such modular lenses and not just have it all be a single piece.

Rorek: Did you really make a giant super gronti dragon cause I threatened to sic my dragon gronti on you!?
Snorri: Maybe?

An aside that caught my attention yesterday.

"I trust my gut on this one, but you don't have to trust me so take my words with however much salt you'd like. After studying everyone's work I've come to a similar conclusion as some of you already have, that purifying Adamant further isn't the right path forward. Steel, after all, is better than iron. To me it's just a question of finding our proverbial charcoal, and it's there that things get difficult for me to offer as freely."
It turns out Snorri was a bit more right than he thought using a metaphor of Steel with how Glimril finally turned out.

What I'm talking about is that there's an amusing visual quirk about the progression of Gromril's states: Ore. Untempered. White. Tempered.

Basically, Adamant's white color reminds me of white-hot metal. This is an incredibly tiny and kinda irrelevant visual detail, but its neat.

What's the plan regarding ESP, Rune Metal and Alchemy? I'm aware the next few turns focus is on The Big Boi, but what's floating around regarding those three?

@MrRageQuit has a plan set up for turn 58. In that plan Snorri is finishing the current part of ESP this turn, as well as finishing the current part of Monolith Mastery, and examining the Godhammer.

The current Akazit part will probably finish on its own as autopsies continue. Rune Metal will take time to unlock - probably going to take Akazit part 5 or 6 before we break the lock on The Rune Metal.

Hey putting together a post collecting the theories we have around the rule of three and how to break it. Is anyone available to come in and suggest where I've presented something incorrectly or unfairly *cough* balance theory *cough*

For folks wondering how far we have to go into Akazit, and those wondering why I'm so sure its very deep into it is because of these quotes.

The best theory you have when it comes to creating the metal in your mind, requires both the means to not only isolate and extract the essence of a Runesmith, but to then infuse that essence into Adamant.
The next step you had to take to prove your theory wasn't completely baseless requires a level of finesse you did not possess. Firstly, a means to isolate and capture the essence of a Runesmith, then a way to actually instill it into Adamant.
isolate, distill then imbue Adamant with the proper energy.

We have three goals to achieve before we can open the Akazit lock on Rune Metal, outlined in the quotes above.

The current part we're working on is the stable storage of the Winds, which will have future impacts down the line for storing essences. However, we cannot easily identify or isolate Essence, see the Dragon Essence and Snorri's troubles finding what makes it Essence. Identification/Isolation of Essence should be Akazit part 3 and tied up in ESP part 1.

Then the Extraction of it from materials or beings, including the safe extraction of Rune Essence from Runesmiths or Runeworks. Part 4 could be this, or an iterative step towards that goal.

Then finally we get to the Infusion, the reunification of parts. Based on the Ingot we saw in the Trial of Fire, there is something that must be done to Adamant to prepare it for infusion. This will make it Silver, but unready still. And then Snorri used his blood and the forge to infuse it with essence.

A new forge set up which renders the Adamant "Open" and ready. Then we sacrifice something bearing the Essence of the Runes. And its quite possible we'll hit locks in this process that require us to advance ESP beyond part 1.

E: Put another way we have to invent most of the field of Akazit first before we can use it for the Rune Metal.

On the topic of Glimiril, while we obviously have a theoretical idea that it exists, does like... literally anyone else even think it does? Snorri has been chasing this dragon for centuries before we were provided that hint by Thungi in the trial. And actually, it's very funny that if we'd taken the riddle ASAP, we would have seen that before we made any Adamant.

In the wider Runesmith community, would anyone even recognise Glimiril for what it is?

Incidentally, Glimiril is probably some kind of Old One super metal or metamaterial, so we're trying to cook up literal reality bending space magic in a hole in the ground.

Depends honestly. Runelords would probably recognize an unmarked bar as a strange gromril derivative. But I expect only the Brotherhood would recognize an unmarked bar on sight for what it is.
