On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

The Brynna section seems to imply developing romance between her and Snorri. I sincerely hope that isn't going to come into fruition, but I'll admit that's mostly because I dislike romance plots/subplots in general.

Loved the update. There's much to unpack but one of my favorite segment was Otrek Jr. It's good to see things are going relatively well for him.

For the vision I'm more inclined towards heat. Dark vision is obviously a great choice even without all the tunnel fighting but I think in the short term heat may be more useful. Against Fimir who regulary use swamps and fogs to hide heat vision can tip the scales even further for us.

It's got to be thermal, no doubt. We live in a frozen wasteland. Enemy scouts and spies will stand out like a literal lightbulb even in the dead of night.
I wonder how Daemons will show up.
Also, don't dwarves already have limited Dark Vision?
Skaven fuckers will be easier to target through this method.

Wow this was a wonderful update. So many cool individual bits. It's sad what the fimir did to the dragons but it solved our elder wyrm blood problem in one go basically.

The banner is cool, and Empowered Waking makes it more likely we actually manage to make the dragon sapient if we storm forge it.

Kastah out of nowhere with the ZonDum is hilarous. She really does have a one track mind and it's thinking DRAGONS. Understood ZonDum and turned it into a talisman for us which is so much easier for Snorri to work with than armor. That'll be fun.

Mostly because you aren't an idiot, and because Magda and Modi, your Brotherhood colleagues from the Hold, moved to Dron in the medium term to not deal with the social fallout of being known associates with you.
Uff. we are buing them a keg of ale at the least, for that. More likely we would offer them a rune trade for the inconvinience. To be fair, this is gonna affect everyone. the Winterheart that stayed behing esspecially.

Besides, going by everything so far, you're fairly sure you would have killed multiple Dawi from the rage-induced strokes if you had claimed the title of Thungni's Heir.
This is funny to me. Imagine if an elf have accived such a thing. the next assembly is gonna be LOUD. good thing we working on sensory altering things.

[ ] [Light] Rune of Heat Vision
GOing with that. Even in Total darkenss, heat vision works. Esspecially when you can see things but not heat, like say goblins sneaking about...
Yeah, wa want the git finder one first.

Otrek Gimlisson is not a fighter. He has spent most of his adult life in diplomatic talks, settling disputes and using his charisma to the benefit of his people.
Love him already.

Also, funny we did not forge anything with the hammer for the first decade we had it. :p

I do like how the Brilliant Hall represents a cogent response by those who object to doing things Snorri's way.

It's explicitly a council of elders deciding If You Are Worthy and rewarding that with one off secret lessons. As opposed to classes and seminars.

But it's also a way for them to put new stuff out into the world so they can make their own points, and thereby remain a live opponent to Snorrism politically.

So it's the product of someone who recognized they were actually losing the fight for legitimacy because Snorri was delivering results and their philosophy was just incoherent negation. But they also waited to see where the other projects were going, and made their move only after seeing philosophy, style, and facilities that they were in dialogue with. I hope we meet them!

This part right here is actually treading closer to a guild structure than anything Khazagar did. They're consolidating power in a clearly structured manner.

The part about it being a power-share between runelords with clear term limits potentially gives it greater institutional stability than the crazy project of That One Weirdo Up North, which is potentially troublesome from the perspective of answering the "is this a guild?" question.

Rune-themed community center, in the other hand, is an interesting approach.

Also, I am voting Heat Vision, if only in the hopes of eventually finding the rune that lets you fire actual heat vision.

Right? But only after enough radical or radical adjacent centers of power were created that they couldn't be accused of actually doing it.

And now they get to pitch all the conservative dwarves who were grumbling on something that has Traditional vibes borrowed from the old guilds, while sneakily being something new. It's a reactionary move, to recognize that they need to pick up the tools the radicals are using against them and innovate on defense of the status quo.

Yeah Brynduraz's version is alright but Izril's Council of 7 has no term limits. And Izril is already the Runesmith version of Zorn which makes it even sketchier.

With Queen Valka's blessing, the rune sigil of lost Karag Dum was placed below the symbol of the Hearth Guard both branded onto the leather then gilded in gold so pale it was almost silver.
On the skin the Runic symbol for fallen Karag Dum has been given a place of prominence, and beneath it the symbol of the Hearth Guard
So, is the Karag Dum place above or below that of the Hearth Guard symbol? I'm guessing bellow is the intended placement?

On the Eye, do you think it's a higher/lower bandwidth split of light?

I love the way this differs from our college. It's more of a gatekept but open Library/Vault split. Not one where you learn to be better technically, but somewhere you can go to check your roots and see where you fare in comparison. Not of much use to those already well off and well connected dawi who have complete learning and solid ways, but to the orphans and the dispossessed, to the depressed and the ones who fear they have strayed, this place could be a brilliant source of comfort and learning. A place of comfort that reminds those dawi that the ways of your people are kept and will carry on to those that pass through it's halls.

I imagine adding to it's record to also be one of those feats that will be as legend. Only the most dwarf-like of dwarf acts of dwarf life. Record par excellence worthy of being a guidepost to the next generation. And anything Snorri related will be likely barred from the place which I assume will only add to the mythologized non-existence of the Gift Giver.

Great is the recrimation, or the reward, for those who test themselves against the judging gaze and implacable wisdom of these vaunted elders. Treasures without equal or Runes of great might shall be given to those who pass the tests of the Council, and burning shame or trial for those unworthy or not yet proven.

Snorri should totally pull the rug out from under them by going there himself, passing all the tests, learning all their runes and then just leave.
