On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

IIRC that kind of thing is below our level of abstraction. And soul has put similarly difficult things in our "Snorri just does it in the background" pocket. And finally, "Oh you made this super cool sword, but gotcha you can't use it very well" is lame and Soul doesn't write this quest for lameitude or gotchas.

I get where you are coming from, but that is kind of a base assumption about dwarfs. Most of them outside the Cult of Gazul are not trained in the use of swords. I mean if Snori made a giant runned pizza cutter would we just assume he knows how to fight with it? More reasonably the GM would tell us as soon as we put it in a plan that our character is not that good at using the weapon.

Honestly, it may just be ordinary underground horrible monsters beyond all reason.

Too early for anything else.

Maybe, even... random tectonics!

Runesmith Wulrik Rivenstone: Knowin mya luck, if I went dere. It'll be a horrible mahnster beyond all reasahn, that is made out av magma and pyroclastic rock.

Be better if somewan else handled it, but w'en has dat ever let mysa avoid danger.

[X] [Dron:] Accept. Go to Karag Dron after the Conclave. +1 Pt. to Coronation of 404.

I think the base assumption about sword usage is quite challenge-able in Snorri's case as I laid out in my post; weapon form is inherently somewhat below our level of abstraction to begin with, Snorri does a variety of difficult tasks like reading complex technical magic books + rune maintenance + training and teaching Karstah all without eating into actions, and as I said it would be lame if Soul said "So if you do this, you gotta train in it". This quest is about building Cool Shit and then Using The Cool Shit - that is the flow of things.

So either it won't be an issue right off the bat or Snorri will take time to learn how to use a sword to his satisfaction without costing actions.

And a sword and a giant pizza cutter are not very comparable. Not in foreignness or structure, so using it as you are doesn't work.

If you want to continue this convo please engage with my actual points instead of this comparison.

The easy solution is to make a self mobile ballista Gronti or something that can aim/fire on its own and maybe absorb rock and stone to make its own ammo. At that point you can just have the elemental thing pick it up for better firing angles. Make it a repeater for extra speed reloading. Of course you could just have another Gronti wield it and solve the problem.

Note I said easy, not simple.

Master Rune of Thungni's Endurance: Deep, deep into the darkest places of the world wandered wise wonderful Thungni; and he returned with the secrets of the Runes, having endured, stonelike, all the magic released with. This Rune channels that portion of his story by allowing the bearer to withstand any magic and then use it to heal. Notably it comes in at least two forms: a passive form on armor, that is certain to work for the bearer but can only do so against spells cast against them (hexes, vortexes, magic missiles and so on) and an active form on talismans (ideally, though not necessarily, Runestaffs) that can crush any magic, including that strengthening the opponent, but can, in turn, fail to disspell it and in turn to heal, if the Wizard is very good or very lucky.

Valka still seeks to refine this Rune to an absolutely perfect state, one where it will both be as sure as the Armor form and as broad as the Talisman form; but even without that, she is satisfied enough about it to teach it to her students.

Snori had trained in the use of axe and hammer for all his life, we have seen no indication that he has ever even picked up a sword. It feels reasonable to assume that the more exotic the 'cool shit' is to his experience the harder it is to use it. Something like teaching Karstah is a normal part of a Runesmith having an heir, suddenly deciding to use a sword is not.

@soulcake I am not sure I understood the vote. There seemed to be no negative consequence to us selecting the Karag Dron option. From that alone, of course we would all vote to go there. It was another way we could attempt to shake out anything of value.

Its about if we want more interlude kinda stuff or getting back to work turns. Only reason it was up to vote, Soulcake literally says so in the update. Reading author notes is useful :V

"Spongebob Squarepants!~"

...I blame sleep deprivation for that being where my brain went.
Specialties: armor runes and elemental runes. Known for developing a variant of the Rune of Storage that massively increases the effective volume of a container but works only for water and other liquids. Signature style is the incorporation of right angles into as many places as possible, the power of rigid dwarf geometry breaking the flowing shapes of nature.

"This is an ancient artifact handed down from the Golden Age, armor that has protected our clan since time immemorial. Now son it is your turn to don them, these squarest of pants."
