On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

If we can impart upon a Super Prodigy all three of Snorris personal traits as a Smith, she'd potentially be one of a kind

A legendary masterwork on every level

[X] Yes: You will take her, devoting the effort necessary to train this young prodigy into a proper runesmith. [Cost: Lock 1 action for minimum 6 turns] [Gain: Snerra Magnasdottir, 18-year-old Prodigy would-be Runesmith]

I say we take her on but have our apprentices play a part in her education.

pretty much. Well someone will always be frowning but compared to spamming Master Runes there'll be less frowny faces. This, of course, relying on the combos not containing Master Runes as well.
Hmm. A mundane combo.
Perhaps Rune of Animation + Rune of Reloading + Rune of Forging

Or Rune of Burning + Rune of Impact + Rune of Might

Or Rune of Striking + Rune of Penetration + Rune of Speed
He runed over a hundred. He probably tried every combo atleast 6-7 times.

So, pick the one that uses the apprentice actions as the cost. And then spend the next two turns finishing the Rune Metal research? And after that make a pair of weapons for our apprentices for their journey?

If we're doing something, we've got to do it right. It also does not seem fair to the other apprentices to have them teach, when they could be building their own reputation.
They won't be needing to actually teach until they are masters which might not be for century or two.

I want to prepare our older apprentices to take more apprentices, and possibly work to a culture where our line of apprentices regard each other as part of a community that ensures that our Knowledge is passed down and built upon the ages. What better way to begin, than to have our older apprentices mentor the early progress of our youngest under our watch? It would also help us access their skills as a teacher, since I don't want to see our Runelore insights end with just us.

Teaching, in my view is a fundamental skill our Apprentices ought to develop. Without it, skills are lost to the Karaz Ankor over time. Our apprentices should not wait till their Masterships to learn these crucial lessons. Is it not proper, that we have sent our apprentice before us to prepare the way for us over the past century in many of our jobs? Should they not prepare the way of this living Masterwork too?

Let be honest, we're going to spend a lot of time working on our metal rune, plus teaching is good for your own learning. Also I think watching a little girl who just started out do the ones about to become journeymen hilarious

Not-Santa will be surrounded by little people helping him in his workshop. All is right with the world.

I don't think the idea that the apprentices doing a bit of the work is not doing things properly is particularly founded in what we know.

Well, this alters some future planning's action investment significantly. Either way, I think that investing in the future is one of the greatest gifts we can give. We don't want her to think that she is anything super special, and although our other apprentices are not as gifted they are still head and shoulders above other runesmith apprentices. I want to make sure that we give her the same experience regardless of her talents. That and it may ease tensions between our older apprentices if they know we are treating her the same as we treat them.

You stand across from the guildmaster of the engineer's guild.

With a gruff nod, you beckon your apprentices to bring in the carts.

Slowly, achingly slowly, your charges manage to push the carts, all laden with gold, silver, jewels and other precious metals into the guildhall where apprentice engineers pick up after them.

Only when the last cart is brought in do you enter, hauling the cart of reagents yourself. You are escorted by the guildmaster himself, a dwarf of some three hundred years, into the main storage hall where they have been patiently keeping the warmachines they originally commissioned, and as per your request, every machine they've built since then.

Well over a hundred Mastercrafted Bolt and Grudge Throwers gleam in the Runelit warehouse, fine wutroth and good solid steel constructions made with the precision and uniformity only the adherents of Morgrim can manage.

You know full well that the engineer's guildmaster holds you know ill will, but it rankles you deeply that you let this be pushed off for so long.

Downright Beardling level foolishness.

Bah!

This endeavour has actually ended up costing you more than the original commission paid many times over. Having had to invoke the clause so many times finally coming back to bite you. Not enough to cripple you, not even enough to make a divot in your personal wealth, but a loss nonetheless. The fact that decades have passed meaning that there are now over a hundred different artillery pieces for you to inscribe is frankly a quibble, a penance to the blow your pride as a craftsdwarf has suffered.

Well no more! This stain against your honour will not stand!

You heft your hammer with conviction, and walk over to the oldest machine here.
*pat pat*

You sniff, looking at your young niece, anxiously twirling her little plaits.

Only eighteen.

Just a child, younger than even Fjolla when she started.
Seven Years younger.

Seven. Years. Younger.

*tugs on metaphorical beard*

Sweet christ on a bike smol child! BAH!

BAAAAAAAAAAAH!

This family is insane. Completely off their rocker cookoo.

So some clarification @soulcake. Putting the Apprentices we already have on her will still take 6 turns to train her up, right. That's what I'm getting from your note at the bottom.

Any of these I'd be fine with no or yes, Snorri isn't dumb enough to fuck up any of them. Personally them getting some teaching experience I think is good? I've been in support for them gettin a holistic education this whole time. Also! We should start a Difficult Request to make Fjolla and Dolgi a pair of weapons for their Journeying on turn 11 so that the weapons can be completed on Turn 12 and they can take them with them when they leave at the end of Turn 12.

Pretty sure you meant "no" rather than "know".

Right now, my funny bone is compelling me to imagine a death grudge from the Guildmaster, with him and Snorri competing over everything.
