On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Is there any other choice? You aren't sure frankly. For all you know, that explosion was the ritual blowing up in the sorcerer's face but was that a gamble you were willing to make? Few were more durable and none as good at dispelling enemy magic as you are thats for certain. If the worst came to pass down there you'd be in the best position to intervene. But you'd have to leave the Throng to its own devices and hope they can hold out long enough.

Then there was the question of your Hearth Guard and where to send them. They would be a boon regardless of where they went, but it would certainly affect their reputation, and say much to both those around them and themselves about their purpose.future.

And that is my vote, besides, as an esteemed Elder and Living Ancestor, he should give the beardlings the chance to prove thrmselves (to you, a grumbling Ancestor) that they ill not falter in there honor and will, to hold, just as Grimnir showed his approval that Karak Drak has hold during the Incursion. And just like Grimnir, he holds the gates for the sake of the Dawi, so Snorri will destroy the ritual for the sake of the Throng and Surviving Dawi of Karag Dum.

And on the basis of reputation, his retainers guards the Dawi, injured, dead, and so on, they must characterized the whole of the Amcestors teaching, the only gurmbling directed at them will be them not joining he frontlines as much

Wow Soulcake, I just want to say I'm absolutly loving this arc. I've been a fervent reader for a long time now, and I think this arc is among your best so far. The length, the suspense, our walking mountain flexing his gear and all we have learnt in the quest so far, the emotional layer of both anger and sadness fighting corrupted dawii who lost their way and betrayed everything that it means to be dawii yet are still recognisable as former dawii. It's epic and fantastic and tragic all in once, and it is great! Thank you so much for taking the time to write and share this with us!

as for the mystery: I look at the following clues and I think dragon
- "Its soul senses the echoing pain .... the dark enchantments wrought on the bindings to suppress its magic"
- "ancient ears and an equally ancient mind
- "the old fire-breather"
- "tremendous bulk"
- "it remembers"

and then there is this:
- "its captors have come for the Daemon just as they came for the old fire-breather."

it made me think it might be this guy, Galrauch, first of the Chaos Dragons. Galrauch was the second-mightiest dragon that fought with the elves against the Chaos Invasion, brother to the mount of Aenarion. In one of these battles, it's rider was slain in a duel against a Greater Deamon of Tzeentch. While trying to slay the Lord of Change in vengeance, the deamon instead of dying somehow took over it's body and Galrauch became the first of the Chaos Dragons, a 2-headed monster possed by the Deamon. When the Deamon turned against the Elven army closeby, the remains of the spirit of the ancient drake remembered those were allies and gained enough control to have 1 head fight the other and Galrauch flew of north. I think a being such as the Evil Bull might be interested in extracting the Deamon and binding it to it's will and then taking over the body of Galrauch himself. After all, is possessing a dragon not a great way to show the power of the God of Fire and Tiranny?

Good lord this is absolutely top-tier stuff. The sheer flex of Snorri just Kool-Aid Manning his way through everything the enemy throws at us. The insidious cunning and treachery of Hashut's minions. The heights of rage that the dawi have come to (Snorri passing up ale? This is serious business).

Seriously well done, @soulcake.

interestingly this timeline's version of Hashut and the Eastern Dawi really opens them up to understanding the Druchii situation later on, should that come to pass.

"there was a big civil war engineered by a shadowy cabal of ABSOLUTE WRONG and-"
"Ah, say no more. We remember when we had that. And then your ancestor came by and shattered it literally to pieces right?"
"Shattered what to pieces?"
"The deity-tier entity that caused the civil war?"
". . ."
"it was just a natural elgi mucking around wasn't it. Hmph. Well, at least your ancestor still came in and slayed them in person right?"
" . . . "
"Did your ancestors even show up?! Gah. Why you'd pray to such fickle beings is beyond me. Not sturdy like the Ancestors. Well. You killed them anyway right? It's not like they're a deity, they're just one elgi."
". . ."
"They survived didn't they. Great. Well, at least that scumsucker isn't anyone we dawi care about. If we liked them it'd be hard to convince us that we'd been duped for so long"
". . . "

". . . sometimes I wonder how you lot survived the invasion"

i just want to point out. the old fire breather they mention was a different captive that the Dawi Zhar had alreaddy taken, like they were now taking the captive deamon away. likely they had a chained up magma dragon since they were taking it's blood.
and no dragon would refer to any other dragon as 1 old if he is older and 2 as "the old fire breather" since that is very much an insulting and improper way to address another of it's kind
