Apropos of nothing, if we hatched Aurora's seed, would her barrier still be lagging or would it have changed to reflect the now upgraded Spacebattles?

Ask Mami (telepathically) to enchant her teacup. See if we can detect the differences in it. If so, look for similar modifications in Rin's glasses.
Extract a grief marble and move it in Akiko's direction (though out of sight), to the limits of our control range. Determine if it can act as a relay for our grief senses. Possibly reshape as film or antenna, and grief-pulse echolocation.
Not the time, but we should try these next time we do Science. I doubt the grief relay would work, though.

Firn might've changed it, but canonically, they need to transform to use the majority of their powers.

It really depends on the nature of their powers. Oriko's futuresight, for instance, remains active both in and outside of her transformed state, while Homura's time stop, due to bring a property of her weapon, can only be used when she is transformed. Both antimagic and grief manipulation are not weapon linked powers, and as such should still function even while untransformed, though presumably stuff like Chouko's flight is not accessable.

Also, transformed or untransformed, it doesn't change the nature of a meguca's body, so they still have access to the durability and pain tolerance being a lich grants them. In PMAS, they also retain access to their heightened strength, see the time we picked up Nagisa.

Hell, we've been playing music without transforming every morning since we figured out how to do it. That proves fairly conclusively that our grief powers can be used when untransformed, even if you disregard all the other times we've played with grief.

You guys think it'd be too much to try and make some sort of sensory variant out of the roof Grief while they answer our questions?

Also, a thought - how about we meet Akiko privately before negotiations begin in earnest, and ask to open a telepathic link between her, us, and one of our Grief Seeds? It'd be informative for her, definitely put her off balance, make our position make considerably more sense from her perspective - and her reaction will provide valuable information about her.
I'm confused (and intrigued) by this part. You mean like, "Mind if one of my pet witches listens in on our chat"? I can see how that'd put her off balance, and it might make sense from Sabrina's perspective (we're trying to figure out the rules of naturenature of witches after all) but how would it make our actions make more sense to Akiko? Beyond her going 'Oh shit Sakura was right, she is one of them!"

Also the one problem with the Decibels of Doom idea (that should be a name for something) is collateral damage. Normal people can't heal up their eardrums like meguca can. :o

Edit: On the meme above, maybe "Watching you negotiate?" In case that crosses a line (not sure if it does just shadowderping).

Uh...I don't think that's a well-advised idea. At best it doesn't do anything...at worst it works, and we have to deal with Akiko taking SAN loss.

We can deal with a manipulative Akiko.

I don't think we would be able to deal with a manipulative akiko who's getting a freakout. :\

If we can randomly patch in Grief Seeds, it'd be neat to have some sort of telepathy bomb. Agree that now's a bad time for that, but still neat.

We can keep it in reserve for when we decide we've really had enough of her. :p

:V
This is both amusing and incrediably uncomfortable.

Well-done.

...that actually remains to be seen.

We'll be fine as long as we're careful, not needlessly antagonistic, and are consistently diplomatic.

...

We're doomed. :(:p

Seriously though, as long as we don't act like we did when we first met Oriko or throw a temper tantrum like we nearly did when Akiko was acting condescending earlier, we can probably handle it or at least adapt.

:V Basically sticking to the middle road.

You know, with how often we make fun of ourselves and Sabrina, I'm mildly surprised that she doesn't have some serious self-depreciation issues. Then again...

The way we sell it to her is that it fills in a critical gap in her knowledge - which it almost certainly will, but it also serves a couple of other functions.
As it stands, she can almost certainly plead ignorance as to exactly what witching entails, and it's almost certainly worse than she thinks. This'd mean that she actually finds out exactly what she was condemning four people to. The realization that witches aren't unconscious entities, and that Grief Seeds aren't dead witches, or even sleeping, but effectively never stop screaming should resolve the whole 'and why do you care?' issue with our actions up to this point, and provide a rationale for us continuing to be protective of UG.
It should make her take (limited) SAN loss. The realization that your business practices involve a certain amount of perpetual psychological torture should affect a person. If nothing else, it stands a reasonable chance of making her more sympathetic to UG's plight and more willing to grant them favorable terms.
And if it doesn't work - that is to say, if she does go brain-to-brain with a witch, and reacts to what she hears with anything other than abject horror - we have confirmation that she's an outright monster. That'd obviously be a bad thing, but it'd also expand our options no end.

Uhhhh. No, we're not doing that because....we're not trying to trick someone into being witchbombed and attempting to psychologically torture them, especially when the person we're trying hardest to save goes crazy when she learns about the witchbomb. o_O
