I legitimately, non-ironically, love that we have to deal with the "evil clone" thing. It's such a goddamn cliche, I'm actually chuckling about it. If the "shoot us both, it's the only way to be sure" thing happens, I'm going to laugh like a madman.
"Shoot us both! It's the only way to be sure!"

"'Kay!" *Tsew tsew!*

"Ahh! What the hell, Sabrina?!"

"I mean, I'll heal them back..."

*nodding in approval*

Calm down. We don't know if it's Hijiri yet. It'd be odd for her to be active this early anyway.
We don't know that it's not her, and she's the most likely candidate anyway. Remember, our knowledge isn't perfect. It doesn't always match up. Which means that there is no reason to believe Hijiri wouldn't be active this early, especially when she's the most likely suspect.

This is definitely an emergency, and we need to treat it as such. Which means timestop, flying to Asunaro, and definitively dealing with the situation.

I'm not suggesting that we panic, just that we treat this very seriously, which we must. Before things have a chance to spiral out of control.

The response you are advocating implies to me significant panic. What happened based on the information we have right now tells me, someone was observing Sabrina giving the pleides a clear seed though admittedly Kyubey may have also intervened. While Hijiri is a possible culprit, there's no proof to suggest it was her. Based on what information I have on her character, the MO does not match Hijiri. She wouldn't act this openly. Not this soon. I'm inclined to believe Yuri or the Souju's may have attacked.

Regardless we need information first. A severe and potentially unwarranted reaction has it's own brand of consequences.

The password thing was probably pointless anyway. We should be able to tell Niko and her evil twin apart with our grief senses.
Just use a Grief-construct lie detector. That way, we can question Niko as to whether or not she's the Niko the rest of the Pleiades have always known.

If it was Yuri or the Soujos, we need to act decisively anyway. But we have the ability to at least rule out Hijiri easily, so we should do so.

Wordcount limit is at 200 words again I see.

Questions to resolve:

Is Niko okay?
When did it happen?
What was taken?
Who broke in?

Has Niko been replaced? (Does not necessarily dictate whether or not Niko is okay, should be tested and not asked. Unless I'm wrong, it should be as simple as contacting her by telepathy.)
What do the Saints want to do about this?

Do we have the time to handle this personally?
- If not, how to do we make it? (Let's face it, even if we weren't inclined to anyways, someone stole a clear seed. The politics of the situation demand we come down like the Wrath of God anyways.)
-- If we must make time, how do we ensure our other obligations are fulfilled?
- What time is it anyways?
Who can we call on to help solve this?
Is now the time to tell them we foresaw an incident? (Preference: pin it on Oriko, for the moment, via noting "a precog told us")

First iteration, basic starting questions:

[X] Start off by getting the details from the Pleiades in ordinary conversation.
-[X] When did it happen?
-[X] Is Niko okay?
-[X] What was taken?
-[X] What can they tell us about who broke in?
[X] Patch through to Niko yourself. Conference after you get through is fine, but only accept aid if you fail. (Test for replacement)
-[X] Clear up anything the others couldn't.

Unless there's been a drastic change in Kazumi's timeline, Hijiri should be completely oblivious to the clone thing and shouldn't even be a magical girl at this point. If I'm reading the wiki right it was comments from Jyubey that made her go off the deep end. Jyubey doesn't exist here.
Honestly, between early notes from Oriko that she didn't foresee anything happening to Kazumi out, and her saying that she did see the other threats, it implies to me that there have indeed been drastic changes. Plus the changes we've already seen via Mami personally knowing Kazumi.

As for the Manga, Hijiri's contracting is... messy, there. There's some indication that a lot of what is attributed to Jyuubey is actually the fault of Kyuubey. IIRC, Jyuubey should not have been able to contract her with the timeline given? But he's shown doing so anyways. (and IIRC, Anri contracts after the same incident by something who's shadow notes they are is very definitely Kyuubey.)

We definitely can't leave Homura alone for an extended period or she'll be potentialbombed. So she's a must if we're going on an extended mission. That being said convincing her to leave Madoka will be an issue.
Note that today's "extended period" is mostly made up of being in school with Madoka and Sayaka. And she's on better terms with them. Don't think it dictates anything, but her schedule and proximity to the rest of our friends bears consideration.

A lie detector would accomplish the same problem that a password would, but be far more overt and have a wider window for failure (as it's both untested and may understand Niko to refer to anyone possessing the right genetics or some other oddness). I think we should use the password.

As far as an overreaction, it's definitely not. Anyone in Asunaro with the inclination to steal the seed is not someone we want to allow to have it for any longer than we absolutely have to. We may not need to gem her on arrival, but we need to be ready to bring down the hammer lest word get out that stealing is a viable way to obtain a Clear Seed.

We should check everyone's witch names. That way we'll be able to easily detect shape-shifters. Honestly we probably shoulda checked Niko's witch name when we met her too.

We absolutely need to Timestop Griefplane to Asunaro immediately. Team should be Sabrina, the Pleaides, and Homura at absolute minimum. Put Sayaka and Mami on Madoka duty so that Homura can feel safe to come with us. With Homura and Kazumi we should be OP enough that we don't need to rock the boat asking for Kirika.

Homura, however, is absolutely mandatory and we need to explain that to her.

I doubt Homura would leave Mitakihara for this.

And we need to receive the Shiogama girls at 10. As long as nothing is currently happening, I think we'll have to wait until after the Shiogama girls get settled, before we fly to Asunaro.

We do need to leave somebody with Madoka to ensure that Kyubey doesn't try to take advantage of the situation. If he can pressure her into contracting, that's checkmate for the human race.

It seems unlikely that Mami would agree to stay behind if Sabrina and Kazumi are going.

Leaving Sayaka behind to babysit might exacerbate her self-esteem issues. If we do that, we'll probably have to explain to her what the true stakes are.

Homura will probably want to stay behind, because Madoka, but that means not having access to timestop. It sure would be nice if Homura would let Sayaka copy her power so we could have our cake and eat it, too.

I got the impression that we were woken up in the middle of the night. We could go there, at least do some triage and damage control, then be back to meet them. And if not... then we should go anyway. This is a pretty serious development that is going to get worse the longer we put it off. Hijiri could make a lot of evil shit in twelve hours with unlimited cleansing.

My teams would be:

Asunaro Team:

Sabrina: Self explanatory.

Kazumi, Umika and Kaoru: Even more self explanatory.

Oriko and Kirika: Argue to Homura that since we're splitting the team, we need to keep enough meguca at home, so O&K need to pull their weight. Oriko really needs to start going out there and doing shit, to counter her very bad cases of 'waiting wife at home' syndrome, and being isolated with only her special one as company most of the time.

Plus, we might want Kirika along anyway, and since this will actually be dangerous, I want to give Oriko the chance to protect Kirika, rather than wait at home and hope.

Sayaka: If she wants to.

Home Team:

Homura: Because she's Madoka's protector.

Sayaka: If she wants to. Also, she's got school.

Mami: She already skipped school yesterday. Missing school again will cause trouble for her at school, and school is important to her.

All that really needs to go is Sabrina, given a good way to verify Hijiri from Niko.

The big issue here is dealing with it quickly. We're not underpowered to fight the Asunaro villains.

Timestop would be very nice, but isn't quite neccessary. We can get there in minutes without it if we don't worry about physical comfort. Just tell Kazumi to hold onto her hat and push it to the limits of safe human endurance, like a shuttle launch. The major issue there would be property damage if we break the sound barrier near Mitakihara, which isn't necessary.

Traveling there supersonic took about 15 minutes each way last time, right? That's a pretty quick response, and we could beat our time if we pushed things a bit farther.
