Now I find myself wondering what happens if you take away a witch's barrier.

Well, AFAIK, it's a matter of strenght. Walpurgis doesn't hide in a Barrier because she doesn't need to hide.

And we're overpowered as fuck. :)

Mmm, I'm not quite sure that's it. While it's definitely true that Witches use Labyrinths to hide and protect themselves, part of that is emotional rather than tactical. Witches need the false worlds of their Labyrinths. They can't cope with the real world or with their memories, so they're basically magical schizophrenics having an unending delusional trip.

Walpurgis not needing a barrier seems to be that she's strong enough to force her way onto reality itself, demonstrated by the Labyrinth traits of her arrival, as well as the implication that she wants to turn the real world into her stage. She wants to 'cover the world in magic', and turn things into a play so that no more sad things happen.

Essentially, she's like Gretchen. She can't be satisfied with her pocket paradise because she's egotistic enough to want all reality to conform to her views ,and she has the weight of force to pursue it without getting insta-pwned by nearby meguca.

Hm. Stupid ideas time.
Firn wants people to be proactive.
Players want to save Mitakihara.

Is there a way to go and hunt Walpurgisnacht before she arrives? Given that Homura would be totally on board with fighting her as far from Madoka as possible, it would take no time at all.

Not really, I don't think so. Walpurgis is a mystery. Its real name, where it comes from, why... nobody knows those things for real, except maybe KB.

We should probably ask around at some point. It still beats sitting back and waiting for it to come wipe out all those nice houses and parks.
There will be traveling soulguca who might know something, for example. Or that Tokyo girl may or may not have heard rumors. And Homura probably did some research...point is, do we have any statement to the effect of "no, you have to wait for Walpurgis attack"? If not, I suspect that Firn's stated position of "heroes must act" holds true.

At the very least, it's a topic we should raise with Homura. She'd know better then anyone how "trackable" Walpurgis is.

Sure.
"I, I- The stage-constructing witch (alias: Walpurgis Night/real name: unknown); her nature is helplessness. She symbolizes the fool who continuously spins in circles. The witch's mysteries have been handed down through the course of history; her appellation is 'Walpurgis Night.' She will continue to rotate aimlessly throughout the world until she completely changes the whole of this age into a drama. When the doll's usual upside-down position reaches the top part of the witch, she completely roils the civilization on the ground in a flash through her gale-like flight," you intone, as if reading off a book. The punctuation, the parentheses, are practically audible.

Homura actually blinks in surprise, head jerking backwards slightly.

A long, awkward pause ensues.

"I... I'm not sure how I know that," you say, finally. You brush your hair back again, and continue, "I- yes. Yes, I know of Walpurgisnacht, and what it can and will do."

"I have only been able to find out what I know about Walpurgisnacht through extensive research," Homura pronounces, now glaring at you with... what? Anger? Curiosity? "I am interested to know how you know that."

I think it might be worth talking about it just to show Homu we're taking Walpy seriously, but it's gonna be really hard to find anything about her.

I'm a thousand percent down with hunting Walpy and obliterating her ass like, yesterday. The sooner Walpurgis is dead the sooner Homura can start piecing her shattered life back together.

Exactly. Sitting back and letting Homura drown in her PTSD when Sabrina can, in all possibility, walk up to Walpurgisnacht and say "Hey, all your Grief are belong to me now" is...not really what friends do.
Of course, expecting fight to go easy is quite naive, but not even trying to is, uh, not how things should be done. Especially since with Empty Seeds as bargaining chip Sabrina can buy quite a lot of information on such ultra-Witches and support from wherever.

I generally agree with hunting Walpy down, but, to be contrary, if Walpy death is a narrative trigger for some other time pressure or calamity, pushing it off might give us more time to get the everything in line (recruiting, training, meeting/greeting, people arriving, etc).

That's not how Firn operates. If proactively destroying a problem just bumps up Problem Schedules (beyond things that make sense, like 'taking care of X problem that Villain Y was afraid of lets then do Z without fear'), then he'd be actively punishing us for doing what he's baiting us to do.

If we defeat Wally ahead of schedule, then aside from shit like Kyubey getting worried over his Golden Goose, we'll have actually earned ourselves 'free time'.

I'm kind of expecting Feathers to come riding Walpurgisnacht to make the Final Boss battle hella harder.

Should we show Bennouna the feather and ask her if it means anything to her? Long shot, but maybe?

(Also, reminder we still don't know anything about the other meguca that's supposed to kill Oriko aside from that she's blonde and has green eyes.)

Naw, it's Rin. Now that she's leader of the Sendai group, she's about to go on a power trip, and when she finds out it was Oriko who got Sabrina involved in the whole Sendai mess -which lead to Akiko's, now Rin's group getting kicked out being top dog.

So she's gonna rage and, since Sabrina's too strong to attack direcly, she's gonna go after Oriko and stab her in the back, metaphorically and literally.

Case Closed.

Wait wait wait. Blonde? Green Eyes? I've heard that description before...

But where...?

The whole story up to this point has been nothing but Firn's buildup to an incredibly convoluted F/SN crossover! It explains so much. :V

It isn't a F/SN crossover, it's a F/Z crossover for extra Urobutcher. :V

Well, there was that datamining a long time ago that suggested that F/GO had a plan to do a collab event with PMMM..........

Walpurgisnacht became Sabrina.

Feathers is Dedolere which is just Sabrina after she turns into a Witch again.

So Feathers is just Walpurgisnacht with wings.

It is actually Homura wearing a blonde wig and green contacts. :V
It's actually Sayaka wearing an Homura costume wearing a blonde wig and green contacts.

But you know, we have never hugged Oriko, and I think we totally should take the chance to do it when we get to her place later, before discussing the whole house burning thing with her and Sayaka.

"So it's you. You're Mikuni."

"I am Mikuni Oriko, yes."

"You burned down m-"

"Wait! Before we get into this, can I do something I've been waiting on for a while?"

*Gapes*

"Thanks! Hey Kirika, wanna be best buddies?"

"Uh, OK?"

"Great!"

*Hugs Kirika*

"Can I hug your Ojou, just once?"

"Hmm..."

*Crosses arms*

"Please?"

"Well, OK."

"Neat!"

*Hugs Oriko*

*Sighs while getting Brinahugged*

"OK, now that that's out of the way..."

"W-w-w... Did you- you..."

"Yes, Sayaka?"

"DID YOU JUST HUG THE GIRL WHO BURNED DOWN MY HOME?"

"Hey!"

"WHAT!"

"..."

*Smiles*

"I helped!"

"... Yes you did."

"Is that supposed to... to..."

"Come on, Sayaka, don't mind Kirika, she's not all right there in the head, you know?"

"Best buddy high five!"

*High fives Kirika*

*Glares at Sabrina and Kirika alternatively*

"This explains so much."
