How about the Mikuru strategy?

"And then I threatened to classified information Kirika. I'm not proud of it, but nothing else was working and I wouldn't really have classified information her."
"What are you... wait a second..."

*Circles around Sabrina*

"I'm really sorry I can't explain classified information any further Sayaka, but- what are you doing?"

"You've got somethign here. A switch?"

"What?"

"Yeah, it says 'Safe Mode'."

"Wait don't touch that-"

*Flips the switch*

*Tackle hugs Sayaka*

"Eek-"

"Please don't turn into a Witch Sayaka please don't die just like you always do you silly mermaid can't you see Kwyjibo's too busy playing Violin-chan to notice y-"

*Flips switch again*

"..."

*Steps back*

"..."

*Wide eyed*

[Q] When you get to Oriko's, hug Kirika very tightly and promise to never forcefully turn her into an eternally suffering abomination against nature.

How do you imagine this happening? I mean, even if she flew into a rage and demanded to know what we did with them, I think Sabrina's theoretical stone-cold response of 'we beat her to death, revived her, threatened her girlfriend, then arrested her. Then she went through severe magical pain on par with torture for an extended period of tme, and has since accepted her inevitable death' might be enough to placate her.
I'm saying that way of phrasing it results in Sayaka not listening because we open with the part that would make her lose her shit, then get to the part that would calm her down. Might work with some people, but it isn't hard to piss Sayaka off to the point where she won't listen.

And most of those books were written before word processors and some before typewriters, so a straight wordcount is only relevant from the reader's perspective. Quality of writing aside, Les Mis almost certainly took more physical effort to write than that Smash Bros. fanfic.
Les Miserables took 17 years to write. While Hugo was working on it, the government changed twice, he went into exile, and the book was rewritten to add a new political theme based on it. A lot of fanfic writers aren't even 17 years old. :D

But he was also writing for a living, not in his spare time like most fanfic writers are. I'm impressed as hell with Firn for being able to churn out such a massive amount of quality text while also, if memory serves, doing hard science postgraduate degree work.

To be fair, Oriko's objective wasn't to force Sayaka's family to leave their apartment, but to instill Sayaka with a deep sense of debt to Hitomi and others she can never pay off so that she'd contract and be able to defend herself/contribute.

Or atleast, that's my probable interpretation.
All she says is that she saw that if Sayaka wasn't made to move, she'd be dead in two weeks. And really, what seems to have finally driven Sayaka to contract was the sense of obligation she felt to us for saving her life.

But even if your theory is correct, destroying Sayaka's apartment while it was empty would still have left the family nowhere to stay, causing Hitomi to step in and help her, resulting in Sayaka having the same sense of obligation towards her. Hell, if she blew out the walls she could have left the Miki family homeless without them even losing most of their personal possessions, or rendering their neighbors homeless in the process. So yeah, there were less-harmful ways she could have done this if she had been thinking more clearly and not been borderline suicidal.

Hm.
Actually, on rereading, it seems that we had an option to prevent Sayaka's house burning by being proactive.
Maybe it's just my sleep deprivation speaking, but I think that if we went to hunt Oriko the night before the fire, things would be much better for everyone. Seeing as she made the threat to Tomoe household the day before, Mami would be on board with the hunt, and Homura wouldn't need any persuading.

Especially sine Firn is so insistent on his "'villains act, heroes react' is utter rubbish". It's like he is trying to tell us something.

Um, yes, exactly. People don't sell their souls over property damage. Sayaka feels personally endebted to magical girls who saved her life, and she feels endebted to Hitomi enough that it pretty much nips the Kyousuke drama in the bud. I'm not sure if Oriko predicted us healing his hand, but she probably did, and if so needed another impetus for Sayaka to contract and to Wish Good.

Hmm...have we thought about telling Blueberry about Oriko in metaphors and without referring to the whole "She burned your house down" thing?
Or maybe even questioned her sense of justice with impossible-to-win scenarios that present a similar situation to Oriko's?

I mean, why not try to pull off what happened at the end of Fate/Zero with Kiritsugu? Did we ever try that?

The thought was raised. It was then dismissed, because people who had all their belongings burnt to the ground and their family hospitalized tend not to take cheeky 'hypothetical examples' particularly well.

It's condescending, too. Treating someone like they can't deal with a situation unless they let you very carefully guide their thoughts into whatever you think is the correct way of thinking.

Sayaka would tell us to cut the crap five seconds into the 'explanation/theoretical scenario/whatever'.

Just checking if the possibility had been discussed.
I'm almost sure this will end badly. Regardless of how much we try to lighten the blow or even how.

We can't win them all, I guess.
EDIT: Not with the attitude and values we gave Sabrina, at least.

There really isn't a easy way to introduce someone to the person that burned their house down. Especially not with Sayaka.

I stand by the thought that it would have been best to keep her in the dark.
But Sabrina is not like that, so that'd never happen.
