Entanglement pt. 1
You stare at Mami's hand, holding the Grief Seed.

"Buh," you say eloquently, waving your left hand. "Cup? Tea? Wha-? I don't even-"

You get some odd looks from Madoka and Sayaka, and a knowing grin from Mami, who simply replies, corner of her mouth tugging up, "Yes, Sabrina?"

"But. Cup?" you stutter, brow furrowed. You raise one shaking finger. "Wh-where did the cup go? Where'd you even get it from?"

Mami winks at you, smirk blossoming into a full grin. "Maybe I'll teach you some day. I have to keep a few secrets for myself!"

Sayaka shakes her head with a laugh. "You have magic and wings and stuff, and what you're most bothered about is a teacup? You're weird, Sabrina." She punches you lightly on the shoulder.

You shake your head, trying to put the thought aside. "But magic doesn- Ahem. Yes. Magic. Anyway, Mami, cleansing?"

"Ah... I suppose so," Mami glances down at the Grief Seed she's still holding in her hand. In the now-familiar burst of light, she untransforms, and holds out her Soul Gem. It's slightly dimmer than it was earlier.

You pull on the Grief clouding her Soul Gem, and it comes free as a mist that drifts over to hang before you. After a moment's thought, you cleanse your own gem, siphoning out the Grief to join the small cloud hovering before you.

"Thank you, Sabrina," Mami says with a smile. She looks down at the Grief Seed again, before clearly coming to a decision. She pivots and tosses the little spiked ball into a shadowed corner of the building. Madoka and Sayaka's eyes follow the motion.

There's a sharp smack of someone catching it in their bare hands.

"I won't be needing this one, so you may have it," Mami calls, smiling pleasantly. Only the slight tension around her eyes betrays her thoughts.

"Homura!" you telepath urgently. "Accept it, please!"

Homura stalks out of the shadows, one hand holding up the Grief Seed.

A long, pregnant pause, as she stares at Mami, and then looks at you. Very slowly, she lowers her hand, and slips the Grief Seed into her pocket.

You let out a breath you didn't know you'd been holding.

"... thank you, Mami," Homura says, rolling the words as if they're unfamiliar to her.

"You're welcome, Akemi Homura," Mami says. Her stance eases, very slightly.

Homura turns and stalks off into the shadows, quickly disappearing from sight.

Sayaka growls softly. "Gah! Yeah, she better be grateful! That was all your hard work!"

Madoka sighs and looks down, twiddling her fingers. "If only we could get along."

"I'm not sure that's out of the question, Madoka," you say. "As you said, I don't think she's a bad person."

"I hope so," Madoka replies.

You're all quiet for a moment.

"Shall we go for dinner, then?" Mami says, finally. She turns to walk away.

"That sounds great! I'm starved," Sayaka agrees.

You nod in agreement. "Yeah. Let's." You untransform as you follow Mami, allowing the small cloud of Grief to trail along behind you like a malevolent helium balloon.

Mami leads the way unerringly out of the old industrial district, and you quickly find yourselves in a fast food restaurant, digging hungrily into a simple burger and fries.

"Sabrina?" Madoka asks as you bite into the burger again. She sounds preoccupied. "I had an idea... maybe you should check with the school whether you're enrolled with them?"

You chew and swallow the mouthful of burger. "That's... a good idea," you say, slowly. "What schools are in this area?"

"Mitakihara Middle School, where we go to, and Shirome," Mami supplies, looking thoughtful. "To start with, anyway. They're near where you were found," she adds, glancing at Madoka for confirmation and receiving a nod in response. "I can ask at Mitakihara School tomorrow for you, and maybe you could go and ask at Shirome?"

[x] That sounds good. We can also check at the hospital tomorrow afternoon (with Sayaka, if she goes)
-[x] with the intent of checking for Charlotte's magical girl or grief seed before she dies/hatches, and to subtly hint that Sayaka doesn't need to contract to heal Kyousuke when Mami could heal QB.
[x]For now just chat with the others.

Damnit, you beat me. The mention of the grief cloud following her made me think of Youmu as well. :p

Actually, that now has me wondering what/how we can possibly experiment with and use this thing, especially since there's possibly almost no cost to just carting it around with us (any corruption Sabrina's Soul Gem builds up holding/pulling around the grief cloud is probably negligible and can simply be "cleansed"/added to the cloud)

Entanglement pt. 2
You nod in agreement. "Yeah, guess I'll do that tomorrow while you're in school?"

"Sounds good," Mami confirms. "Remind me to pass you a spare key, later."

"I- thanks, Mami," you say.

"It's nothing," the blonde deflects. "It's the least I can do after that Witch hunt!"

"Yeah, that was really something!" Sayaka injects. "You two were moving so fast! And destroying those things-" she shudders theatrically "-so easily!"

"It was amazing to watch," Madoka adds shyly. "That Witch, though... it really didn't seem to like you, Sabrina."

"Maybe because she ripped a hole out of its home?" Sayaka says with a grin. "I know I'd be mad if someone punched a hole through my living room wall."

Laughs all around the table, and you all lapse into a companiable silence filled with the sounds of eating. A thought strikes you as you chew through the last mouthful.

"Will we be doing anything after school tomorrow?" you ask.

Madoka glances at Sayaka, who blushes slightly and looks away. "Um... Well, I'll be visiting the hospital after school tomorrow, so..."

"Uh? Are you sick, Sayaka?" you ask, carefully faking surprise.

The bluenette blushes a little more. "No... I'm just visiting someone there."

"Oh, I see," you respond. "Hm... hey, do you think there's any chance I might be in the hospital records?"

"Eh... I wouldn't think so. You did say this was your first time in Mitakihara, didn't you?" Sayaka says, blush fading. "Worth a try, though?" She says with a shrug.

"Might be," you echo.

Mami leans forward, smile turning slightly devious. "So, Sayaka. Who is this you're visiting?"

The blush returns full force. "I- ah- a childhood friend of mine."

You lean forward too, a smile mirroring Mami's blossoming across your face. "Oh? Would this happen to be a boy?"

"I- uh- Madoka we've got an assignment due tomorrow don't we let's go," Sayaka blurts, shooting to her feet. Madoka puts a finger to her lips, looking up as she thinks. "No, I think it's due the day after, actually," she says, and winks at you and Mami.

Sayaka shoots her a look of mixed betrayal and mortification. "You too, Madoka?"

You burst out laughing. "So a boy, then?"

"I'm done here. Madoka, let's go home," the bluenette declares, and turns as if to walk out of the restaurant.

Madoka giggles. "Alright, Sayaka. Don't forget your bag."

Sayaka grumbles, but turns back to pick up her school bag. "See you tomorrow?"

"Yeah, see you," you nod back.

Mami gazes at the leaving duo, gentle smile on her face, before she looks at you, with the same gentle smile. "I suppose we should be going home as well, too."

"Yeah, let's," you agree, standing.

As you walk out of the restaurant, Mami coughs lightly, and says, "Sabrina?"

"Hm?" you glance over at her.

"Just so you know, I can sense the Grief you cleaned off," Mami says, pointing at a spot behind and above your head, where the Grief cloud is hovering. "It's nothing bothersome," she hastens to reassure you. "It's just... there, and I thought you should know. Maybe you can see if Kyuubey knows if there's anything you can do with it?"

"He's attending to something else, though, isn't he? Maybe when he shows up again," you reply, noncommitally. Now that she mentions it, though, you can sense it, both with your other senses, and what you recognize as a puella magi's more standard Witch-sense. It shows up as an ephemeral presence that's hardly noticeable, just present, as Mami said. You're not particularly enthused about talking to the Incubator again, though.

Mami nods, accepting that.

"So, ah," you begin, looking for an opening. "You go to Mitakihara Middle School?"

The blonde looks at you and smiles, understanding. "Yes, I'm a senior there..."

The two of you walk home, while Mami regales you with simple stories of her life to help fill the holes in yours.

...

It is the next morning. You'd had a good night's sleep in Mami's guest bedroom, after Mami again lent you some of her older clothes. You're muzzy, and barely awake, but you can hear the clinks of Mami bustling about the kitchen.

How'm I doing on the character interactions?

This vote will cover past breakfast and to your first activity of the day.

[x]Get up.
[x]Check for the grief cloud. You're going to have to do something about it eventually. Maybe try storing it in your gem for now if you can do it without...taking risks.
[x]Go and offer to help. It's not as though you have anything else to do right now, and it's the least you can do. Are those pancakes?
[x]Talk to the Mami.
-[x]Tag along with yellow for the moment.
-[x]Go through with the plan from yesterday...but if nothing else happens, we are getting to the hospital before the events of E3 in the evening. Try tagging along with Sayaka later using the "ask for our name" excuse.

Vote ideas for later, took these out of this vote:
--[]On the way with Sayaka, change the conversation to Mami. Try and get the topic around to when Mami healed Kyubey by asking what exactly happened when they first met her.
- if we can ask away from earshot of Sayaka, check for a "Nagisa Whatshernameagain" too
[]Keep an eye out for Homura. If we get the chance, we need to talk to her.
-[]Try and see what her plans for Charlotte are if we can ask privately. See if we can ask her to help deal with it before...certain events.

Current game plan: Charlotte needs an intervention, be it saving Nagisa prewish/witchout, finding her grief seed and trying to drain it before it hatches, setting things up so that Sabrina and Homura are in the area when Sayaka and Madoka spot it...(This has the bonus of Homura being seen by Sayaka as taking care of the Witch which can only be a good thing.)

Oh, and generally getting them used to the idea of Homura showing up not equaling "please look for a reason to shoot me, I am ominous and vaguely threatening for no explicable reason".

Walking around with a growing cloud of semi-aware despair seems like a bad idea in the long-term if only because it sets off Meguca witchdar constantly.

Momoe

I know this isn't the case, but if Sayaka sees Homura fighting, she might react negatively, with Homura obviously using stolen weaponry and all that.
Stolen weaponry's a bit lower on her list of reasons to dislike Homura than "she's a lunatic stalker who tried to kill Kyubey, threatened Madoka, and Mami dislikes her for good reason" as well as "SAYAKA HATES HOMURA" on general principle. She probably hasn't even thought about where those guns from beyond "it's magic".

... I don't think that Sayaka has actually seen Homura using guns. She sees Homura fighting Charlotte, but that's with bombs and totally unrelated to situation now.

Mami already said it wasn't a big deal right now and we do have to talk to Kyubey about it. If it's that pressing, we should release some of it.

First we should just be able to sense Nagisa if she's at the hospital. Second just how much meta are you willing to share with Homu right now? Because the amount of foreknowledge you want to discuss with her is going to raise a lot of questions if not a gun in the face.
