Then what do you suggest Kinematics? Casting blame does nothing but rile everyone else up.
The suggestion I made was a different approach in explaining ourselves to her. Unfortunately, it didn't pass muster. At this point in time, however, I'm not sure if the situation is salvageable. Sabrina has already dug herself a pretty deep hole.

Also, to be clear, this is not just hindsight; what I wrote in the above post are all arguments I would have made yesterday, before the update (I actually had most of them written up; just didn't post). I was just (as always) trying to avoid arguing directly against the existing votes when I made my own proposal, as I feel it gets too much into sniping territory, even when it feels justified.

As for what we can do now? I'm just not sure. All the paths that I would normally use have already been closed because of Sabrina's actions. I will try to come up with some other approach, but for now I'm just at sort of loose ends.

Fuck this nonsense. We are in the right here.
Ah, no. We may have correct (if not complete) information, but that is very far from being able to say that you are "in the right" with respect to how you interact with another person.

Dunno if it's autocorrect or something, but you made this typo a few times. Should be "insight".

Judging from her reaction, I kind of doubt if any explaining would have been enough. Especially since yours seemed really passive aggressive. At least that's how I read it.

Still, the reasoning for why the vote wouldn't work was valid. Kind of wished that you did post it. Although, who knows what would have happened, really.

...tell us what? I honestly have no idea what you're thinking. Please fill us in, if you would.

Doesn't matter if you only have a vague suspicion. Again, I have NO idea what your line of thought here is.
It's hard to put into words.

Our opinion of Ono wasn't ever exactly high, and judging for her apparent chosen powerset, neither is hers. I got the idea that maybe Ono is like something society spits out, unwanted like trash, or residue.

We are trying to take that and make it less... dangerous? Toxic?

Honestly, it's not much of an idea. Sorry if it bothers you, I could refrain from posting things like that.

Look, how about we just check her current state (from afar if possible), cleanse her soul gem as remotely and non-intrusively as possible, and then head back home?

That way, we know what her current state is, we ensure that she is in no immediate danger, and we can give her time to cool off. It also gives us the chance to take the whole matter from a different angle tomorrow or the day after.

Win-win.

Because the terrible-at-socialization part of the thread wants to punish Ono for whatever reasons.

That's definitely one way of doing it. Problem is all our options will likely really piss her off and burn bridges making any future attempts at helping her more difficult. We suck at social-fu and this girl is really prickly. This whole thing is a little complicated and that we kind of screwed ourselves here doesn't exactly help matters.

Look, if we show up and only cleanse her, that means she's still in danger. It also means we have to go through all this wholly unrewarding bullshit again tomorrow, when we could just drop her a few pointers on not dying of idiot - whether she wants them or not - and then forget she exists for the foreseeable future.
This is a highly attractive possibility.

If Megane really is highly corrupted I'm more than a little tempted to openly cleanse her gem and show her just how much of that shit was really in there this whole time.

Then we can stress that too much of that stuff in her gem will absolutely kill her.

@Kinematics

Nah, I flat out misspelled it. Thanks for the correction.

Heh. Actually doing the minimum necessary and trusting Ono to not kill herself and everybody around her does sound nice.

How about we do that idea of timestopping, cleansing her Seed and leaving her a note with pointers about the meguca life?

She'll know. She'll be pissed. As long as she doesn't accumulate too much grief...

We kind of already did this the first time? Would we need to let her grief accumulate close to full before cleansing, in order for it to stick?

No we didnt. We cleansed her in timestop. She was completely oblivious to all of it.

If you meant the refreshing of the grief seed, that was subtle and went straight to our bag. She didn't get a good look at that.

Ono is pissed off at us, but we do have valuable information/services that she will need to use regularly. Ideally, in a situation like this, we could get a neutral third party to act as a go-between to resolve the situation. Unfortunately, we don't know anybody that Ono might trust (apart from Kyuubey). Maybe we could bring in Masami & Hiroko? If Ono's gem is as dark as we think it is, then there's no time for anything like that at the moment, but we might be able to bring them in to smooth things over tomorrow or something like that.

She was surprised, but cleasing her Gem included her in timestop.

EDIT: I see what you mean now. I guess seeing the disgusting mass of corruption that was in her Soul would scare her some.
One last bound, and you land on the same roof, your friends a step behind. An effort of will tugs at the Grief, pulling the corruption free in a billowing torrent. Brief colour washes over the girl, her dress revealed to be a sparkling sky blue to match her eyes, though those are currently red and puffy from crying.

The timestop reclaims her as the last of the Grief comes free,
Mami raises a hand, and a length of golden ribbons spools forth, winding through her fingers before snaking through the air to touch the girl lightly.

The girl gasps, stumbling to the floor, catching herself on her hands and knees. Mami steps forward boldly, a smile fixed on her face and hand extended.

The girl looks up, eyes widening, and then darting around in confusion before settling on Mami's outstretched hand. "Who, what-" she rocks back on her heels, scrubbing at her eyes.

"Hello," Mami says, welcoming smile firmly affixed to her face. "I'm Tomoe Mami, and this is Sabrina. Welcome to Mitakihara."
We're masters at first impressions.

We've already added Ono to the Mitakihara team. Kind of late for third parties.

Depending on how much grief she has accumulated, just leaving and trying again tomorrow, when she had time to calm down a little might actually be the best call. After thinking about it and reading the other comments, Ono probably doesn't ahve a very good opinion about us. Every interaction we had with her, could be seen as kind of pushy from her side. Her stupid powers didn't help in that regard and made things even worse.

She said that she used the grief seed in the morning to cleanse her gem, so the amount of grief in her gem right now would be a good indicator of ho much grief she acumulates through her power usage and if it is save to leave her to her own devices for the night or if we have to intervene.

Maybe we can let Mami and Homura in on our thoughts? We're out here because we didn't trust Ono with her own life. Homura knows how it is, really, but Mami could use hearing it.

It might be a step towards just checking on Ono and leaving if she's fine.

[x] Speak to Homura and Mami
-[x] "She's not being cooperative and she's not accepting my apology. I think I've offended her and she's refusing to believe me or take me seriously."
-[x] "I'm really worried that she's going to get herself killed unless we do something to stop her."
-[x]"I really don't want that to happen."
-[x] "What I feel like doing is flying over there in timestop, bringing her into timestop, telling her that we have graciously made sure not to interfere with her 'busy schedule' by doing so, demonstrating to her how low on the powerlevel scale she is, informing her that she's privileged to live in a city controlled by magical girls who are willing to help her despite how abrasive she's being, rather than just about every other city on the planet where she'd be kicked out or murdered simply for being competition, that unless she takes care of her gem, grief will accumulate exponentially, leading to her risking herself and those around her, whom I'm currently more concerned about, until she dies, that this is why most magical girls have a minute life span and that until she gets over her own ego and accepts our help, we're going to hunt her down and forcefully help her to keep the civilians around her safe."
-[x] "But that's probably spite and annoyance talking and I'm trying to be less pushy. For all I know, she may really be busy and I don't want to sabotage people's private lives."
-[x] "Do you have any thoughts?"

Sometimes I suspect that everyone we deal with is secretly another quest protagonist.
Well, sure. Everyone's the protagonist of their own story and all that. Nakazawa Quest just has a very different tone.

Fuck this nonsense. We are in the right here. She will listen to us or we will make her listen to us. We're not going to let her throw herself into a fate worse than death and drag her friends and family with her. We will beat her into compliance if need be. Sometimes you have to be the over authoritarian asshole to save lives.
The fact that we are right about the dangers of the meguca life in no way precludes us from having fucked up at Onoplomacy.

[X] Resume normal speed, travel until you can feel Ono in your sensing range.
-[X] On the way, share your thoughts with Mami and Homura: You can't but feel Ono can't be trusted with her own life; we might be pushy and impolite, but this is beyond obnoxious and into suicidally amounts of obnoxiousness for Magical Girls.
-[X] Unless they have any suggestions, plan is to sense Ono's current grief levels (Gem and Seed) and, if they're fine, leave. And apologize for wasting their (Mami's and Homura's) time.
--[X] If we can't clearly tell Ono's grief levels are low, we ask Homura to use time stop, so we can check up on her from up close; if she really is deep into a grief spiral, we'll cleanse her and let her see just how much grief we're pulling out of her Gem. Also take the time to explain the harsh truths of Magical Girl life.
---[X] If she's not grief spiralling, but is still corrupted, we'll refresh her Seed and leave.
---[X] If we do check up on her, we could... check further into her home life? If she needs help, she might not be able to voice her problems...
----[X] Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.
----[X] Thoughts?

I'm half tempted to kick Ono out of Mitakihara until she understands what's 'normal' for megucas, but I'm afraid she'd die from that.

I agree with checking her grief levels up close, but I think we can spare five minutes to check her home life. Give some context on why she's like *this*, maybe even clue us in on what wish did she make and why.

Are we OK with doing that?
Errr, yes?... Sorry, haven't had any coffee yet so I'm not thinking straight.

What I was thinking was if we got some bettter context on what's happening to Ono right now, like if she did actually have a pressing problem, maybe it'll show her on a more sympathetic light. And maybe it would defuse the thread's hostility towards her.

Because if most meguca with short lifespans are like her, then we are going to have a *grand* time when we expand our operations.

We could bring it up with Mami and Homura.

Contract bait is contract bait.

... Let's not say that in front of Mami.

[x] Right, fuck it. Homura, let's go.
-[x] Flagrant Timestop Abuse Go. You and Homura go right up to Ono in stopped time and check her Soul Gem if possible without dragging her into stopped time, and we'll then make a judgement call on whether to drop out of time-stop in front of her or just leave her be. Best not to overthink this before we get there, though. There may be strange circumstances surrounding her present condition that we may not be able to predict.

I guess we're asking for suggestions, then likely time-stopping and finding Ono.
