We could mention we had already asked about htis particular Witch before, and that it was due tomorrow and somewhere else entirely?

And dude, between Mami's uncomfortable questions about Sabrina's witchy powers and Homura asking if our powers are causing this shit? I'm starting to worry. The 'Sabrina is a Witch' jokes kind of lose their fun...

Better put that thing away. Maybe even let the others know it's making us uneasy.

We're sorry momura. We really didn't mean to break space and time and do screwy things with the fabric of the universe. Honest.
Liar. As if we, of all people, didn't want to do that.

Here's how I would respond. Feel free to add it to something or ignore it.

[X] I can't see how...but if there is something else that caused this it's possible they were waiting for me to be....distracted .

[] It doesn't feel like my powers, and I certainly never intended for any o this to happen
-[] I did consider it, but it seems unlikely
--[] Just in case, I've decided not to make barriers again until I have more evidence that it's safe.
[] There's too little that we know. It's possible that the feathers are from an unknown enemy, from an unknown ally trying to protect us from an unknown enemy or, if it's due to my powers, it could be an instinctual attempt to protect me from the real thing that's causing the damage.
-[] I don't want to just make assumptions. It's dangerous. Getting rid of the feathers may be the very thing that lets this threat attack.
[] Clearly something is wrong, but until we learn more, we can't act rashly.

Hopefully that will convince Homura we aren't a threat.

You wave your free hand in irritation. "I know, I know - the Witch shouldn't have just targeted Sayaka like that. And yes, Oriko gave us good information, but it's also clear that she has no real idea what caused the attack."

With your attention mostly fixed on Homura, you see the flash of irritation wash across her face before she wipes it back to a disapproving mask, her weight settling on her back foot.
Holy... Barely mention her and she gets like this.

What does that posture mean? I'm trying to stand with my weight on my back foot and it's uncomfortable as hell. Makes me feel I need to move forward.
"I don't know," you say. "I honestly have no idea. The only things I have to go on are that the timing matches, and that, well. Um. Oriko mentioned feathers blocking her visions before."

"Do your powers have anything to do with this?" Homura asks, voice quiet. Her weight shifts again, balanced, hands hanging loosely at her side. She's not exactly tense, but... something about the set of her shoulders suggests worry.
Please no. Homura, we're doubting ourselves more than enough as it is.

*Sigh*...

If we're gonna talk about 'meta' or how whatever placed Sabrina in this World and made Oriko contract might be the same thing, I think we're being prompted.

Poor Homura :(

She finally, after all this time, sees a glimmer of hope, a way out, that maybe death isn't inevitable, that she can hopefully live her life out fully without hunting for witches forever, that she'll be able to actually take care of Madoka.

And now she's thinking it's going to all come crashing down, because of course something bad is going to come of this, it always does.

She was even starting to hope, too. Probably why she's so cold; she doesn't want to make any mistakes this time around, not when she might actually succeed.

[] The feather is more likely to have something to do with you, actually, but the explanation for why I think that involves secrets that are yours to tell. So unless you're okay with me telling Mami about stuff it'll have to wait.

That's wrong. Experience only makes them more capable in battle, and the strength of a witch is dependent on their inherent potential. For example, Charlotte was a very strong witch, but I don't think Nagisa had a lot of experience or defeated very strong witches.

I forgot to reply to this because of the update. Kyuubey explicitly says that a magical girl becomes a witch more powerful than the strongest they've defeated. All Charlotte proves is that that isn't the only factor.

Hey, is Sayaka's apartment in an area that's being built/remodeled?
Homura waits for the ribbon to secure itself before cranking her shield sharply with a whir of clockwork.

The skeletal, dilapidated hulks of half-finished buildings around you shade to ashen monotone. Sullen hues of grey wash across the world, sound and colour leached away by Homuras power. Your breaths are suddenly terribly loud in your ears, and you can hear every rustle of cloth that accompanies your motions.

Don't quite remember that being pointed out earlier, though not without good reason, that being [PANIC], of course.
You let Homura lead, this time, and the three of you find yourself headed to a surprisingly -or perhaps unsurprisingly- upscale part of the city. Not quite the same absurdity of rolling greenery as the Kaname residence or Mikuni mansion, but... it's a nicely appointed apartment block in what you recognize as one of the high class districts.

You suppose you can guess a bit at Sayaka's wories, comparing to her old apartment.

The three of you land on the roof, and make your way down the stairs to Sayaka's apartment. Homura touches a hand to the doorknob, and concentrates for a moment. There's a flash of purple, and the lock clicks open, Homura pushing her way into the apartment proper.

The entire apartment feels new. The furniture definitely is, from the looks of it, and the massive television on the wall, and the light fixtures, and the fluffy rugs, and... how bloody rich are the Shizukis?

... you can see the source of Sayaka's fretting, really.

Sayaka was taken into the old industrial area onmur.

Your shadowruns are showing.
We're outside 'Sayaka's new apartment', after dropping Sayaka and abandoning her with her parents.

(Description from when we went looking for her earlier).

What can we even tell Homura?
We have no idea where the feather even came from. It could be our powers, it could be Homura's alternate devil-self, it could be from a crow that got lost in our barrier. Who knows?

But I don't think "I don't know" will be enough to satisfy her at the moment.

What if it wasn't a witch or Feathers that Oriko saved Sayaka from, it was a gas leak. Dead, but without any outside marks? That could be the result of a witch or Sayaka witching out, but it could just as easily be from gas asphyxiation.

I think asphyxiation does leave marks; blood shot eyes and foam in the mouth?

I found the one responsible for the timeline-branching who reshapes the World at a whim!

It was Firnagzen all along!

It was so obvious...

Thanks, I hope we're all going to have a great time here. Even you Homucifer. May I help you all on this quest.
