America's/New world is literally on the other side of the planet, thus we really arnt going to have much soft or hard power when it comes to it.

I say we forge even closer relations with khem and make the smaller kingdoms to the east of us to like us a lot

I'm concerned about that bit of hespranxer between us and the Khemetri mostly, as it seems perfectly placed to get in the way of cooperation with the Khemetri.

Maybe use our diplomatic muscle to get them released into independence?
I wouldn't bother; there are plenty of proto-states (and by my count two actual states) to squabble over territory. The Syffrynite colonies are going to break away eventually; it's just a matter of time. If the imminent war gets particularly protracted, they might lose them sooner rather than later. And again, when they do, there'll be plenty of local politics to keep them both divided and not breathing down our necks.

I really wouldn't worry much about the New World in general. We are in basically the worst possible geographical position to influence it or vice versa, and we're probably going to have more pressing concerns until the modern era. I would keep an eye on the UPM and the Mapanca, though; they're likely to become world powers and they're unlikely to have any reason to dislike us.

I'm not sure if that is Hespranxer. The shade is slightly different. @Academia Nut?

That's the Highlander Kingdom.

EDIT: I'd really like to see the Hespranxer try to conquer the place too. Dusty highlands full of religious zealots with a hatred of outsiders is a good combo for TTL!Afghanistan. We could throw guns at the Highlanders and laugh.

Things are not coming together at the rate I thought they would. SoonTM now means tomorrow evening. The map ended up taking longer than expected and needs a few further tweaks.

That's the Highlanders. At this point most of their territory is desert mountains and dunes that they claim and no one else has interest in. Their coast along the Saffron Sea is also 90% vertical cliffs, with the remaining 10% being hills full of fanatical xenophobes. The combination of bad lands (with the exception of their ancient core territories, which are buried deep in rough terrain and fortifications) and crazy inhabitants has lead to basically everyone leaving them alone. After the empires fall they will frequently step into the vacuum a short ways, but they inevitably get pushed back into the places no one wants to bother with going further. The Ymaryn did take a chunk of their core territory once during the clean up of the fall of the Eastern Saffron Confederacy in the century before the rise of the Ueman Republic, mostly to clean up connections and borders.

Ah, I remember players making effort to teach them laws in an attempt to absorb them. lol. So, was their monotheism pushing back in the days when Ymaryn were just figuring out this whole "Intrigue" thing a concerted effort to make dissent and then take lands or...? What was thier plan with that?

"Also, mostly to clean up [] borders" Glad the Ymaryn did something right post Genghis-Khan

The god damn Highlanders are still a thing? Well I'll be damned. Mad props to them for being pretty much the only minor power in our neighborhood to survive and keep their culture mostly intact.

But we better make sure to conquer them before nukes start to be a thing, or they'll become our Cuba / North Korea.

Actually every attempt to reach out to them to shape their society never passed the vote except in immedoate reaction. We made the situation more or less, by our choices.

Oh... I though that an action was spent on helping with their laws via choice, not a reaction. A wasted action.

It was god damn difficult for the players to organize 'unsexy' or not immediately urgent actions, especially when we perceive ourselves to be constantly on fire.

Alright, we are basically turkey combined with the russian empire to form super! russia.
Our main focus of expansion would be those juicy gold and furs of siberia, although nohon could be a bit of a problem on the far east there.
On the other hand, Restoring greater ymar would also be great for prestige! and the territories arent bad either. We should get it if black sheep fucks up.
An american colony is unsuited to us, just like otl russia. I suggest we witdraw from dealing with american affairs, as it is far from us.

On diplomacy, getting in the good graces of khemetri and super sweden should be our main focus, they are basically our main potential allies at this stage.

On industrialization, resources should not be a problem for us, assuming we do the neccesary actions to extract them. We are basically set up to become an industrialized nation, resource wise. All we need to do is kickstart the damn thing by making incentives and developing the tech.

We should also use our advantage in education to keep ourselves ahead in the tech curve. Wouldnt want to end up eaten by a more advanced nation militarily. As others have said, another tech slot could be useful for us.

I mostly agree with this. Though i'd like to add that we need to keep an eye on the rest of the Syffrinites. Unlike real life Russia, we don't need any more clay in their direction because we've already eaten Poland and the Black Sea, but if any one nation looks like it is about to unify the others we need to step up and slap them down, Great Britain style. Any future Not!Napoleon or Not!Hitler is going to be coming for our resources after conquering the rest of Syffrin. The goal of our Syffrinite politics should be to preserve a balance of powers there. The Sketch are our natural ally in this if they are anything like the real life United Kingdom.

As for Siberia, we should aim to ally with the Hung Empire against Nihon and vastly increase our naval power if we wish to drive them back to their Island.

Maybe it would even be better to just advance in Siberia until we meet a neat, defensible mountain range and hold there, because fighting an enemy that can easily ship supplies and reinforcements to their colonies while our troops need to slog through thousands of kilometres of Tundra is a pretty daunting task.

It didn't help that we often set things on fire ourselves, when we could or should have consolidated. Like the taxation mess or the intervention in the Trelli slave rebellion. Though some of those did have an overall positive outcome.

Aw shit.

That isn't not!Israel!

That's Afghanistan!

...I recommend we do some diplomatic overtures at some point to defuse this mess before we get that mess on our borders.

We should look into getting some colonies before it's too late.

All those random islands in the middle of nowhere are going to be very useful when exploring gas and oil.

Same with the vast stretches of land in the Americas and Australia that no one has claimed.

We could just put a flag on those places and most people won't even care.

It would be a mistake to not claim colonies. Our rivals would be able to outspend us thanks to the riches claimed from the colonies.

There is also the cultural aspect of it. Look how much influence the Great Britain has over the commonwealth.
