@Lilithium
What do you want by "full borg"?
Salt is lower risk. We know that we'll get trade dominance with a 3-action commitment, and this is 2/3 of that.
Snails is higher reward. With the likely fall of the Hath, it's extremely likely that we will get trade dominance with a single [Main] expansion. It also gives us a free "additional effects", it's how we got Watchtowers and the Saltern tech.
It also causes us to go over the limit in Martial. This is kinda bad, but it is the best way to get more land since either we'll be at war with the Hath and crush them with it or they'll fall apart and we'll have to take over more land and place down a new March.

Like, we just don't need martial right now. I don't understand the appeal. With iron and better chariots, our marches have been dominating the nomads. Why would the Hath (or their successor state) have even a tiny chance against us as we are?

Before you all get too excited, this is an Heroic Admin and Diplomatic Heir. He's not King just yet so he might not be able to use his full ability.

This changes my planned timeline though. The Hathatyn are practically handing themselves to us on a platter.

There's also the possibility of evolving a martial trait from all this conquering. I'm not too happy about this if it leads our People into "saving" everyone from their current civilizations.

Also, hey, which is better for going full borg rn? Snails or Salt? I've really craved Snails for a while but we have a huge advantage in Salt that we should exploit as much as possible.

Those snails depend on us for survival. I wonder if they've been domesticated and grown bigger because of it? Is such a thing even possible though?

That is the idea. All I can consider is my cat being murdered or something feels super fucking bad man.

And also I'm putting 'cute animals' as a point in favor of doing Snail Cultivation because that means we have more snails and snails are great.

Yes it's possible to selectively cultivate snails, but I highly doubt we did since we haven't attempted expanding on it since the stone age.

There's a slew of new things to learn or test by attempting a main snail expansion, at this rate we'll hit the industrial era before we touch em.

Finally. As much as I love Nobility in Humility, its con of lower hero generation is ick. This will mark our first non-NiH hero since Bynwyn, I think. Kinda amusing that even with NiH, we got two Admin Heroes back to back while after its gone, we had no leader even above the norm.

[X] [Boats] Speed
Not going to pick anything else for now but faster travels and communication will be nice.

Larger boats obviously unlock improved logistics, which have been a major limitation on a lot of things.

Lumping will dampen innovation. Splitting is the political fustercluck I wanted to avoid in the first place. Trying to prevent either is way too obviously a have and eat your cake option, but with heroic admin if might be achievable.

Of note, we have the option for a major diplo annexation, plus simultaneous salt gift, all under the influence of a diplo and admin hero leader. The tremendous synergy is tempting.

Uh, no, Speed or Size would be better for that. Portability is if we want to focus on using the rivers, so it would be more lowland/Hathatyn focused. Speed and Size would be mostly focused on getting ships for the Not!Black Sea.
But portability means

You'd think portability would lead to being able to go to more places though. However, we should note that we have places that are best reached by boat in our Kingdom already. So like either way it's a good thing smhtbh.

I'm concerned that an earlier update mentioned the Hathatyn as having river pirates. That implies that they've already taken at least one portability upgrade to their boats, and they might be able to reach Valleyhome through our canal.

Yeah, size is more likely to improve seakeaping and range than speed, and bigger ships makes bulk shipments increasingly viable over low volume luxury trade. Shipping wood, stone, flour, ore, etc. becomes an actual possibility. To say nothing of actually carrying passengers.

Speed makes patrols more viable and ensures quicker turnover in trade routes but it doesn't fundamentally shift the paradigm of shipping like bulk does unless perishables are in play. And outside of milk and maybe fruit those aren't an issue.

I wasn't involved with AN's past quests, but apparently, people tried it before.

It went poorly.

AN really doesn't like write-ins.
I think part of it was that some of the write-ins that got through were stupid in the sense that AN could easily exploit them for !!FUN!!

Bigger snails are easier to see. Unless our people have an understanding of selection, such is unlikely. If they do they're as likely to select for color.

I wanna go to open sea one day tho. Portability seems like the stepping stones to get there.
Portability seems like the opposite path. It focuses on rivers not ocean waves.

  1. He's an heir his turn. Our kings tend to be old men by the time they get the throne so by next turn when he has to deal with these decisions he will be king.
  2. This is about the least military expansion imaginable. Why do you think it costs Diplo? We are bribing people to join.

No. The canal is land locked.

If you look on the Civilization Sheet, the Hath are crossed out. Guys, I think they've already dead. We might have to contend with a successor state of course, but wow. Wow. They must have crit failed hard.

They're just in no condition to be able to trade, once their current issues are sorted out that will no longer be a problem.

can we offer a write-in solution for the whole "splitting or lumping" issue?

I will almost certainly rule it as the third option of trying to prevent both issues, but I suppose you could propose it.

The problem with Salt Gift is that it gives too much stats. Snail Cultivation is only +1 and that's already kinda scary. Salt Gift with a heroic diplo leader last time gave +3 net stats (and +2 prestige). It also doesn't have the trade dominance of Snails or Salt, nor does it have the additional effects of the Snails.

Because life has made me extremely salty and roasted and I no longer want to be nice to our neighbors.

Let's send all the warriors to conquer the lowlands and then make a giant canal into the lowlands and tear down the FUCKING WALL OF SKULLS!
